  1. Thanks again - always my happiest read of the week!
  2. Old one: Butch Wynegar described by narrator in depth. Final line "he loves baseball so much, he'd probably play for free". Then Close-up of smiling Calvin Griffith saying "I really like that kid!"
  3. Great stuff. I loved the Met. I remember driving up to it, monolith like on the undeveloped land, surrounded by great big parking lots, walking in up those ramp-like structures to the cheap seats. Such Wonderful memories. That 1960 Olympic hockey team had some great Minnesotans on it. Don't forget Tommy Williams from Duluth.
  4. These get better every week. Thanks again for this. Baseball has so many awesome stories and you find share so many Twins-related ones. It is especially fun for us this old-timer who goes back almost to the (Minnesota) beginning.
  5. As always, a fun read - thanks so much
  6. Matt - you've definitely hit your stride with these Almanacs. This is great, great stuff. Such a fun read. Thanks so much for contributing.
  7. Reminds me of the economist who predicted seven of the last three recessions.
  8. So Darvish hasn't met with the Twins - has he met with all 29 other teams? How many has he met with?
  9. Matt Great stuff - thanks so much for putting this together. As a fan whose first Twins memory traces back to 1963, I love reading this walk through history. And I can always learn something. I went to Denfeld, lived in Duluth for 40 years and played in Wade Stadium, but I never knew the Rip Wade story. So here's hoping for more Almanacs. (Worst moustache? Keith Atherton)
  10. This is a really nice breakdown, Tom. I don't know the answer, but you gave me a lot to think about.
  11. Not sure I understand how that is the best-case scenario – seems to me the best-case scenario is that they know something I don’t. Coincidentally, that seems like the most likely scenario as well.
  12. So we won't win the Winter Meeting Trophy?
  13. I love this move – une-fricking-quivocally
  14. When I first read this I read Jorge Romero - he was the Night of the Living Dead guy
  15. Are we really rating socialization skills now? Do we use the traditional 20-80 scale? Snark aside, I am in agreement with AK in the top 5.
  16. maybe there are more data points that go into the decision other than contention
  17. Sounds like you are saying you won't be OK unless the Twins sign three pitchers better than Santana. That can't be right.
