  1. That's the part I don't get. How did the Twins have to give up a 2nd pitcher? At that, a lottery ticket harm (good potential) rather than an older, established AAAA-type.
  2. I don't need an answer. The question was rhetorical. I do need somebody though to talk me down from the ledge.
  3. I'm losing my adopted prospect for a 31-year-old relief pitcher with a 1.30 WHIP and 7.3 K/9, huh?
  4. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Fleeced by the Rays once again.
  5. I get the Kepler over Walker argument, but I think it's gotta be a closer call. Relatively same age between the two. Walker's been consistent while Kepler has been injury-prone and really only produced this season. Plus I think going forward power like Walker's is going to come at a premium, even if it comes with a ton of strikeouts. Teams are more willing to deal with that as power is dropping throughout the league.
  6. I'd love it. Although I would think the Twins would need to give up more to get both Reds players. Two other fun things to think about. 1) If you get Chapman, you'd probably let him stay as a reliever this year for the playoff run. But next year, do you do what most people have been hoping the Reds do for the past few years and turn him into a starter? 2) Who would you be more comfortable trading away, Adam Brett Walker II or Max Kepler?
  7. I'd want to keep Kepler for the simple fact he's the only slugging lefthanded prospect bat in the upper minors. (Yes, I'm not counting Arcia). The Twins will need at least one lefty to go along with Sano, Buxton, Dozier, Plouffe, ABW II potentially. Kepler's defense, speed, and approach are a lot more attractive than Arcia's skill set (rare power among a ton of strikeouts, no walks, and bad defense).
  8. Great article! This is a good reference for the next 30+ hours. What about ABW III? His numbers have to be catching people's attention. Are you assuming he's a definite piece to the Twins outfield in the upcoming years? If not, would he be a "sell high" guy vs Arcia? I'd love to keep ABW III because of his consistent production so far. But if Hicks continues to produce, could the Twins outfield (Buxton, Kepler, Rosario/Arcia, Hicks) picture be pretty full?
  9. Then they'll go to Toronto and lose 3 out of 4 (best case) after, because of the Seattle wins, sending two quality prospects for a relief pitcher and average shortstop/catcher. If you're going to go down, go down in flames!!!
  10. Not to be the wet blanket, but the Tigers are never going to trade within the division mid-season. Plus I don't think the package of Price & Soria would get the Twins into the playoffs.

  12. After two more solid starts, here are Chi-Wei's season totals. 15 GS, 86.0 IP, 6-2 (W-L), 1.99 ERA, 71 H, 23 R (19 ER), 4 HR, 22 BB, 73 K, .228 AVG, 1.08 WHIP, 7.63 K/9, 2.30 BB/9, 3.32 K/BB Hu continues to limit runs, which is obviously the most important thing, but his game strikeout totals are falling and he's getting hit a bit more in the second half of the season. All-in-all, it continues to be a fantastic season for the 21-year-old. The early season success that generated so much mid-season promotion talk was exciting, but it seems like Hu will play out the remainder of his season in Ft. Myers. Hopefully they can make a run into the playoffs and he can get some postseason experience.
  13. My hope is that no top 10 prospect is moved for a reliever. Only a few relievers would would warrant that haul (Davis, Betances, Chapman, Kimbrel). The first two aren't moving the next two are probably too expensive for the Twins. Buxton will have a rehab assignment, probably at Rochester, when he's healthy again. If Hicks keeps progressing like he's done the past two weeks and Arcia is called up and mashes, there may not, dare I say, be room for him without a trade.
  14. The Miracle's turn around this year has not gotten enough pub. The first few weeks of the season started out so poorly that it seemed improbable we'd ever be talking about a run to a potential playoff spot. The lineup has never produced a ton of runs consistently. But the starting pitching has been outstanding. I'd love to know their stats and their rankings relative to other FSL teams and others throughout the minors. I have to feel they have one of the strongest staffs around. Hu, Slegers, Eades, Stewart, Batts, & Gonsalves is a really strong 6-man rotation.
  15. Hu's gotten a couple of more starts in since I last posted. Last night he had a strong outing, pitching 7 innings and allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits, no walks, and striking out 4. Here are his season totals (including the spot start for Rochester in May). 13 GS, 73,2 IP, 6-2 (W-L), 2.20 ERA, 60 H, 21 R (18 ER), 4 HR, 19 BB, 68 K, .221 AVG, 1.07 WHIP Hu's been the Miracle's most consistent starter this season. His ERA and WHIP are great and his 8.3 K/9 is promising given other arms in the system. I know many of you are wondering if a promotion is due. I, selfishly, would think so, but Hu is still 21 and young for the league. But his spot start in Rochester may have shown he'd be up for the challenge of a higher level. The Jorge/Hu combo promotion thrown out in this morning's minor league report is interesting. From casually following the Chattanooga staff, I can't imagine they couldn't make room for Hu.
  16. I'd have to imagine either he or Slegers would be next in line.
  17. Chih-Wei pitched a pretty good game last night for the Miracle. He came away with a ND as the Miracle won the game in 15 innings. Hu pitched six frames, allowing 3 ER on 8 hits and now walks. He gave up his fourth home run on the season, but did strike out 10 batters, tying his season high. Here's Hu's season totals. 11 GS (1 A+, 1 AAA), 61.2 IP, 5-1 (W-L), 2.34 ERA, 51 H, 19 R (16 ER), 4 HR, 16 BB, 61 K, .223 AVG, 1.09 WHIP. Hu has remained perhaps the steadiest pitcher for Miracle throughout the season. The flashes of brilliance that had people wanting a May promotion have been replaced but solid, more understated results. Coming into the season, I saw Hu's performance being more in line with what he has shown lately as opposed to the dominance from earlier in the year. A mid-year promotion is still not out-of-the question, but I think if Hu pitches the entire year in Fort Myers maintaining his current numbers, everyone involved would be satisfied.
  18. Great point on Mauer's batting position. Although going by the "if not him, than who" argument, I don't think he should drop to 6th or 7th. I've been thinking for three years now Mauer is an ideal #2 guy. With Buxton leading off (one game , I know, but that success should at least warrant an extended stay there), Mauer needs to bat second and let Dozier hit in the 3-hole.
  19. Hu pitched the second inning last night for the South Division in the Florida State League All Star Game. He contributed to the South's shutout pitching the one inning and giving up one hit and striking out one batter.
  20. This was a good article, but it left out the issue of Ricky Nolasco. The Twins will actually have 7 starters for 5 spots. Performance-wise Nolasco has been the poorest, but the Twins have been reluctant in giving up his spot.
  21. Yeah, but is he as good as Omar Infante? I mean, I think the All Star Game starter has got to be the best in the league, right? KC fans are the worst!
  22. Stewart has had 2 years to make the same kind of impression against the same batters as Gonsalves and Hu. He hasn't and should be ranked below those two. Gonsalves has to be top-5 right now. Gordon has a ton of upside, but he is really young and has yet to flash a top-5 tool besides defense. Even the top-5 pick status should not get him above #7 or #8 on the list. Kepler, Walker, Harrison, and D. Hicks deserve consideration. Trey Vavra and Felix Jorge also have been overlooked.
  23. ALL STAR!!! http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20150608&content_id=129284626&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t509&sid=t509 Congrats to Chih-Wei Hu for being selected to the FSL All Star Game! He has definitely earned it with a great first half. Here's a great quote from manager Jeff Smith. "Hu has been one of the best starters in the FSL so far this season," said Smith. "He is one of those starters you feel like you have a chance to win every time out."
