    Won't know for sure, but I would assume there were discussions between AJ's agent and the Twins. It would be interesting to know who said "Thanks, but we're going to pass" first.

    Tracy Claeys was named FT Head Coach today, signing a 3 year contract through the end of the 2018 season. I'm happy they're continuing the course with this coaching staff, and look forward to seeing if he can recruit just as well as Jerry.

    For the Twins, gotta hope that Hick's recent turnaround was a mirage and not a trend. At least Murphy is young with some room to develop. I was dreaming of a Rosario-Buxton-Hicks OF, but now I'll have to start dreaming of a Rosario-Buxton-Kepler OF instead!

    I'm with you 100% Dinger. Plouffe's numbers have been broken down on other threads, and he is the definition of middle of the road 3B. The writing has been on the wall since July when Sano came up and dominated that Plouffe is expendable. Now we're seeing some resistance with trading him.. I don't get it.

    Now that the Twins won the bid to negotiate with Park, I think the Plouffe for Lind idea is dead. I would be excited for the Atlanta Braves or San Diego Dad's proposals. The White Sox for all I know could be the best proposal, but I'd prefer not to deal Plouffe to a division rival.

    There's 2 people that come to mind... Denny Hocking is 45 years old these days, but I'm willing to give him a shot on a 1 year deal. The Twins also need someone who can bunt, so Nick Punto may be a dark horse.

    And there's hundreds if not thousands of other players drafted in the teens or later who never pan out to be MLB players.. People would complain about that too if we remembered that the person was drafted in the 1st round. If anything your argument shows that it doesn't matter where these players are drafted. The whole process is a gamble. Giving up the #17 pick IMO shouldn't hold us back from making this deal. If the money and number of years holds them back from Wieters, I'm more understanding of that. I don't agree with it, but can respect the decision.

    I think Gardy will be hired as a manager again. The league seems to be cyclical when it comes to their hiring process. The latest and greatest now is to hire that former player/young gun with no managerial experience. It first worked in St. Louis with Mike Matheny, and now everyone wants to jump on that bandwagon. Once there's enough failures out there, or if another team goes back to the recycling bin of former managers and sees success, teams will go back to the old way.

    It's a good thought, but I don't see any of those options usurping the starting spot from Suzuki... And IMO that should be the top priority to find someone who can take the majority of starts so Suzuki's vesting option for 2017 doesn't happen.

    I wouldn't be concerned with giving up the #17 pick if Wieters is offered a QO. If the contract is within the 4/60 projection I'd bite the bullet and bring him on board.

    Very exciting names to end the list. With Nick Gordon I see he's listed as 6 foot, 160 lbs. I realize he's 20 and has some growing to do, but do the Twins want him to put some meat on those bones? Or does it not matter for a speedy SS like him?

    I'm with John and the majority of posters on this subject. He could be a fine addition as a bench bat, but I'd like to find someone else who can fit that role, along with having more position flexibility than just DH/1B. I'm not Justin Morneau nor his doctor, but personally I hope he hangs it up for good. With multiple concussions and 2 young children needing him at home, I would think the risk is greater than the reward these days when it comes to trying to play again.

    A couple of Kill quotes I'm reading on Twitter.... "My doctor told me, if I didn't move on with my life I may be a guy that don't think too good down the road. I want to be able to think." "When I walked off the practice field last night a part of me died." Sounds like he's been experiencing seizures again. Sad to read. He seems like a very like-able person. Hope he gets his health under control.

    Wow stunning news this morning. Jerry Kill retires effective immediately for health reasons. Tracy Claes will take over as interim head coach. Huge blow to the program.

    Torii received all of these standing ovations because he was a good baseball player. Nothing more than that. I doubt he has any cult following purely from his opinions off the field. It will be interesting to see how Torii will be viewed in a public light now that his playing days are behind him. The circumstances are different, but we've seen Curt Schilling go from a WS hero to a zero now that his opinions are the main focus...

    I am too young to remember and appreciate the Kirby days, so Torii was the first impact player I have followed as a Twins fan. I remember watching Baseball Tonight, and most every night, Torii made a Web Gem play in CF. Whether it was robbing a HR, making a diving catch, or throwing someone out at home plate, he was a lot of fun to watch growing up. Not a lot of players can say they played at the highest level of their sport for 19 years and leave on their own terms. Congrats on a great career.

    Agreed on your last point that the Price, Cueto, Zimmerman, pick your poison FA Ace option will never happen. Since the organization has a limited history of making their own ace as well, trading for one may be the best method. Before I talk about my point, since you feel the Twins are in rebuild mode, do you think they're going to be a playoff team next season? Or win fewer than 83 games? I may be skeptical but I'm not sure how the Twins can take the next step to being a 90+ win playoff team without taking a risk and acquiring someone better than the other 8 options on hand. It's going to be difficult to replicate the luck and timely hitting we saw last season...

    I also look at Rick Vaughn as a comparison. Dude is only 5'10" and threw 97 consistently...... Is that not the same??

    Make your own ace is the ideal option since their cost is minimal and years are controlled. There's very little evidence of that happening during the TR era other than Johan. Berrios is the next best chance, who has zero MLB experience. I don't think he's going to come up to the MLB and have a 2006 Liriano campaign next season, or even in 2017. So how are the Twins supposed to take this next step to being a 90+ win baseball club next season? Or are we back to building for 2 years from now?
