  1. Keep swimming upstream with changes. If the players keep failing on offense then next is getting rid of some players through trade and DFA. If that doesn’t work then it’s probably time for the manager to go. And if that doesn’t work the season is lost and the FO is on the hot seat.
  2. The Twins have scored 2 runs or less in 36 out of 91 games. 39.56% of the time!
  3. There’s only so many things a team can do to wake a team up before the season swirls down the drain. Firing the hitting coach is low hanging fruit but has good optics as the next tactic to try.
  4. It appears Joe watches the team unlike uncle Jim, so that’s a good start. “Urgent/urgency” is the buzzword being used. I know he’s been behind the scenes for years now, but this is year 1 as the new public face for the Pohlads. It will be a bold move if he ends up making sweeping changes in the organization. It’s his first opportunity to make his mark…
  5. Neither of those guys would start a playoff game. If Gray is traded there are 3 good starters left for a series - Ryan, Lopez, Ober. Maeda around as the 4th option/bullpen guy.
  6. Looks like the same 2023 Twins offense to me. 9 games since the players only meeting, with 5 games scoring 2 or less runs.
  7. You’re right. The system is pretty depleted as it is. There’s a reason why we’re all rooting for Julien to do well. He’s the only option.
  8. Yep. How much improvement? Not enough IMO. My thoughts on this are still the same as a couple of weeks ago. I have little to no interest in supplementing this team further trading prospects for veteran talent.
  9. That will be pretty darn expensive to acquire 2 top of the order bats. The pitching staff will still be quite good, probably good enough to win a playoff game, even without one or more of Sonny Gray, Kenta Maeda, Caleb Thielbar, or Emilio Pagan.
  10. You’ve seen the offense, yeah? That may help you understand why it’s being expressed.
  11. My row of peas never took off this year. Little did I know it was because 2 volunteer tomato plants were sprouting in that space instead! I’m going to be loaded with tomatoes now… Looks like it’s going to be a good pepper season in Minnesota as well!
  12. I support trading Gray if the value is there. I will also be rooting for the Twins now and long after Sonny Gray’s playing days are over. You are correct, the Twins are in playoff contention. It won’t take much to remain in contention thanks to a dreadful AL Central division. There is no team to fear. No one is saying to trade Gray for anything you can get. They will need a return with more perceived value than a competitive balance pick in the 40s overall. With Gray likely being the top SP trade target, I think they would get a lot more than whoever they draft in the 40s.
  13. You expecting a lunch rush? I’m hungry now and brats sound pretty good!
  14. Is there any doubt Sonny Gray would be #1 on that list? I’m more interested in Bellinger as a free agent target this winter than a rental trade target.
  15. Just for fun, I fired up Out of the Park Baseball and did a live start season on July 4th. Simmed up to 7/25 so Polanco and Thielbar could return from the IL. Trade difficulty set to the most difficult level… Here’s what the game is offering for some of these players: Sonny Gray has 2 compelling offers. The game had Oakland and St Louis offering up trades with higher potential lottery tickets, but that isn’t too realistic of an outcome. Houston offered 24 year old C Korey Lee, who our scout Sean Johnson evaluates as a 40/80 overall with 60/80 potential. As well as 25 year old RHP Forrest Whitley, who our scout evaluates as a 30/80 overall with 40/80 potential. Milwaukee offered 24 year old LHP Robert Gasser who is doing well in AAA and evaluated at 40/80 overall, 55/80 potential and 23 year old RHP Cam Robinson - who is struggling in AA but is evaluated at 40/80 overall 55/80 potential. To no one’s surprise, we didn’t receive any offers for Emilio Pagan… Even when the Twins retain 100% of his salary.
  16. Because of the lack of supply I’m willing to see who overpays for Sonny Gray and Maeda.
  17. I have zero interest in Cruz playing for the Twins again. However, the second he decides he wants to get into coaching, I am offering him the hitting coach or bench coach role.
  18. It was a fun game to see live. Excellent tune up game for Maeda. The Royals only had maybe 4 hard hit balls all game. Buxton sure looked healthy yesterday. Good to see him beat out a slow roller to SS, and get a stolen base.
  19. I did end up going to the game! It was a good one and that’s all I can ask for. Buxton, Maeda, and Kepler looked really good!
  20. I was considering heading to the game today but the clouds look really dark off to the west. Maybe the storms are arriving earlier than expected.
  21. I’m selling… unless the Twins go on an unprecedented winning streak in July. Sonny Gray is our best realistic trade asset and I would sell high on his best season to date. If Maeda has value I would move him as well. If Thielbar and Polanco can recover in time for the deadline I explore trading them as well.
  22. Happy 4th of July! Hopefully the game concludes before the thunderstorms start rolling through town.
  23. I hope Rocco sees this headline and invites you over to his 4th of July BBQ.
  24. I’m pretty shocked by this. The Twins had a lame duck expiring contract for $60 million this season. Once Diamond Sports dumped San Diego earlier this year, I assumed the Twins were not too far behind.
  25. A different voice might kickstart things. It’s still going to be the same philosophy/approach set by the FO. If Popkins is fired today, they’re not very likely to hire someone who is unemployed at this time. It will be one of the 2 assistants named as the interim. Or one of the minor league coaches. I just don’t see the move making much, if any, impact the rest of the season. That being said, it’s absolutely a move I make in the offseason.
