  1. Definite value in having at least one of those be a little more contact- and average-favorable compared to the generally power-focused other prospects (though a guy like Kiriloff has the skills to do both).
  2. Hell I'm hoping that the Mariners can make a run the final two weeks of the season and knock the Astros out of a playoff position! That would be super fun. They're only separated by a couple of games and while the M's have a really tough schedule the final two weeks if they can keep it up and the Astros continue their slide, they might be able to sneak through.
  3. I'm more than a little curious as to how much interest the Twins might have in making Rich Hill a long-ish opener as a potential fourth starter in the playoffs. Obviously you can't necessarily trust him to go any more than five innings, but getting no less than three good innings out of him should at least be possible. According to Baseball Reference, in the first three innings of a game, Hill so far this season has pitched 17 2/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs for a 3.57 ERA, walking six and striking out 13 while allowing a .246 BA and a .679 OPS.
  4. Depending on roster numbers I'd honestly bring all three of Jeffers, Avila and Garver, if only because Garver has shown the at least temporary ability to play a little first base which could be useful as a backup option.
  5. Why Wade? He's got one of the best eyes on the team, can play all three outfield positions at least decently and does have a little pop. Definitely a better fourth outfield option than Jake Cave, if maybe with a little less power but much more contact.
  6. Tough to lose Rooker with how composed and powerful he was at the plate to start his career. Hopefully he makes a good enough impression to start with the team next season!
  7. Here's where I'd put the bullpen as to where I'm trusting people, leverage-wise: Firemen: Duffey, Clippard Long men (able to go an inning or more): Stashak, Alcala, Thielbar "Closers": May, Rogers, Romo, Wisler Hard to believe, but of this group, I'd actually say I trust May the least to get through an inning without being dinged for a run. Duffey's your fireman in the playoffs, you send him in when any inning is in danger. I'd trust any three of Rogers, Romo or Wisler (LOVE his slider) to close out a game with how they're pitching right now, and Alcala, Stashak and Thielbar are all guys I'd bring in as bridges to the late inning guys. Definitely a very interesting pen and I'm intrigued to see what it looks like next season.
  8. Home-field advantage, especially with the bubble still not being implemented, is definitely important considering our home/road splits so far. As long as we have the season series wins against both teams, I'd take that. And if we could find a way to get to Bieber later today, that would help quite a bit.
  9. That Wade pick at first base was incredible. There are regular first basemen that would miss that one and he was just thrown out there today with likely the worst weather we've played in all season to boot and he didn't seem to have any issues.
  10. Buxton literally just makes this team wins by nothing more than just being in the lineup. My goodness is he crucial to the team doing anything.
  11. Twins have faced Civale three times so far in his MLB career, going 1-1 in his starts against us last season and 1-0 in his one start against us this season. This season's start was the worst of the three, as we knocked in three runs against him (we had been held to one run in each of his 2019 starts, though we had scored two and four additional runs against the Cleveland bullpen in those two starts. As for Franmil Reyes, we have done extremely well against him since he came over to the Indians. He's currently 9-49 (.184) with two doubles, no home runs and 4 RBI's and a 21/2 strikeout-walk split. And that .184 average comes with a little help, considering he's averaging a .321 BABIP (13th against team's he's faced). Just keep pitching to him like we have and we shouldn't have to worry too much about what he can do.
  12. Also noticeable was, after four decent games to begin his starting Twins days, Vargas was 0-fer today and singlehandedly either started the killing or finished the killing of four different rallies, leaving him responsible for something like half to two-thirds of our runners left on base.
  13. Yeah there's not many parts of the sports-reporting world that's having to change more than sideline reporters in all non-bubble sports. Bet Marney and everyone else with her job in the MLB can't wait for things to go back to normal so that she/they can get back to the face-to-face interviews with players again.
  14. I believe Sano's right near the top of players who have been hosed by having the HPU expand the strike zone on them. Certainly something worth taking into account in his "falling behind early" stats.
  15. Unfortunately he'll have to pitch incredibly well throughout the rest of the season to get it. Hitters will always have the advantage on pitchers, so Robert would have to cool off big-time for it to not be him.
  16. I think Garver, more than pretty much any other hitter on the Twins, has had a tough time with how teams are pitching and umpires are calling games against us. At least three or four different times Garver has let a borderline pitch go and expected for it to be called a ball because of his stellar eye at the plate but has been rung up because either the ump sucked on that one pitch or the catcher stole the strike.
  17. Games like today are why it's important to get into a bullpen early in a series. Let's make sure the Pirates pay for it.
  18. Even though people in the baseball world dance around it, I have to think a genuinely easy way to get more people of all races/ethnicities excited about playing baseball is to actually pay minor leaguers. Take Kyler Murray for example. Was very highly thought of in both sports coming out of high school and college, but ended up choosing football. Why? You get your second contract MUCH quicker, and you don't have to play for basically peasant wages to slowly work your way up through the system. The minors are a lot like unpaid internships. For those who can actually afford to take one and not have their life particularly disrupted by the fact that you're either being paid very little or not at all, it can open a lot of doors for you. But that's not always an option for a lot of people, and that can close a lot more doors than people think.
  19. Which is pretty messed up in and of itself, though it's not like baseball hasn't had its issues with labor abuses in the past. Hopefully there's some progress on making the minors less of a hellscape.
  20. Gotta wonder how many errors Zoilo would have had in modern-day scoring. Things like that can change, especially over forty years.
  21. Yeah I think a good number of hitters are willing to give up the first pitch to a guy like Rogers when he can bury a pitch on their back foot or well into the dirt on the opposite side of the plate. Gives them a chance to settle in against him and he's regularly coming in late in the game with the Twins ahead so people are trying to be more patient with his pitches.
  22. Unfortunately it also provides the slightly dark cloud that we now have no idea as to when Pineda will be coming off his suspension. If the hiatus lasts long enough, we honestly might end up seeing Hill back before Big Mike.
  23. Adrianza's selling point to the Twins is that he's by far their best defensive replacement on the bench in late-inning situations and the Twins don't really have anyone else that can play backup shortstop as capably as he can within at least a level of the Majors (especially if Gordon is a second-only player now). That alone could keep Adrianza around another season or two until players behind him finally start to come up to the bigs. Also, giving up a relief option that has shown as much potential as May would be, IMO, dumb. Especially on a club that has struggled to not only find, but develop, late-inning relief options with the kind of stuff that May has shown. I'm not saying we sign him to a super long-term deal, but two or three years with a good amount of money per year would definitely be rewarding him. Odo is a good guy and I've liked what he brings to the team, but our starting pitching depth is finally starting to rise through the minors and we might be able to replace him on the cheap with a better option. Of the three listed, surprisingly, I think I might be most okay (at least RN) with Odo being the one that leaves in FA.
  24. Sounds like Judge has now been hit with another injury that will keep him out for an undetermined amount of time.
  25. Other than continuing to hit Eddie Rosario fourth, I'm not sure much annoyed me more than not actually utilizing some of our backup infielders (especially Adrianza) to give Polanco some time off in the second half of the season. Gotta give him some time off this season.
