  1. Yeah, I get that. You can have the computer manage a lot of things for you to start and then add in things you'd like to do slowly. If you get back into it, I can certainly give you some ideas if you need them. As far as making it more challenging, I've found that the more realistic you make the game the more challenging it becomes. For example, make scouts less reliable and/or do a "stats" only type of league.
  2. Online play offers the same kinds of experiences, too, but if you like Mogul, there's nothing wrong with that either.
  3. Great game. As Snepp hints, there is probably a lot more flexibility, depth, and customization than in Mogul.
  4. Sorta like the Rangers are doing. Seriously looking like a Redbox movie may have been the way to go tonight.
  5. Are these statements speculation or do you have some sort of expertise and facts here? I'd think a guy like Mastro, who can play 3 OF positions actually isn't terrible at the plate and can steal bases in the majors like it's little league can have a decently career (especially if he approaches league average for OBP) . Even is Buxton, Hicks, and Arcia are all playing in the Twins OF 2-3 years from now Mastro will be a nice, affordable backup under team control.
  6. Wasn't ripping you, just adding on. Absolutely it must be odd for Plouffe.
  7. Honestly it was a great breakdown with how he ranks among other hitters as well as catchers. The argument against his greatness that people have about him not playing enough catcher and having to switch positions eventually have been put to rest.
  8. Grandpa is compact, in great shape, and runs like Sonic the Hedgehog.
  9. Well done. I've had the same impression as you, watching a player that deserves to be immortalized, but love the numbers perspective.
  10. No, there was another one a couple games back.
  11. Worley looks frustrated with himself out there. Nice play to end the inning, though.
  12. Teams did for decades. Why is it surprising that extremely scout-heavy organization (with a rep for doing it well) that rarely hires people from the outside would be one of the last teams adopt or consider these ideas?
  13. I'd argue that the Twins could help themselves in this regard. Until we see new evidence, the current evidence is all we have and most of it points in one direction. There's certainly been some encouraging steps this season.
  14. Thanks. You stated this far more clearly than I did.
  15. Listen, I'm not "picking" on him. I find it surprising he hadn't heard of it and it tells me that coaches (at least the Twins) live in much more of a bubble than I thought they did. I mean, he hadn't even heard of it, even when you consider last year's MVP discussion? I just find that fascinating that someone so close to baseball wouldn't have heard of it and it gives me a new perspective on what kinds of things they (or at least Rick Anderson) pays attention to.
  16. Should have clarified. I meant if you think he has no need to even "clutter" his mind with the idea of what has become a ubiquitous baseball concept even if I can see there is little value in him using it. I was, of course, referring to that article (thanks for linking it) when I referred to being unaware of WAR. That article is as encouraging as it is discouraging with regard to statistics. I was glad to see the use of Pitch FX (and that was actually document awhile ago) but disappointed to see the response to the WAR question and the high value of WHIP (as pointed out above, doesn't always correlate with a successful staff).
  17. If this is your belief, then you have a lower opinion of him than I do for my surprise at the fact that he called it "a new one" when asked about it.
  18. I wasn't arguing that, but to not know the term even? It would indicate living in a pretty closed bubble to me.
  19. Gotta say the PP Twins articles have been excellent lately, and this was another one. I think that the Twins apparent ignorance is actually that. I do think they are keeping some things back as well. The small statistical department and some statements just seem too impossible to be made up and match what they do on the field. Rick Anderson did seem to be clueless about WAR in another article. Is that really possible?
  20. Probably a good point. I'd add, though that the Twins were very well aware that he would have only very limited use in at least the first week of the season, basically as a pinch runner and late game defensive sub. IMO, you just can't have a guy like that on the bench when you don't have another CF. A lot of people were asking why he wasn't DLed at that point. In fact, playing him actually continued to setback a possible return from the DL (though that proved moot). The roster management issue here isn't a phantom one, but you're right that Mastro shares some of the blame.
  21. I was saying it after they traded Revere and Span, so it's not really hindsight. To the idea of people going insane if he weren't up, I'd say "So what?" If people are going to go nuts about a player not being in the starting lineup from AA based on spring training numbers, that's really their problem isn't it? The Twins didn't put them in a position where they could do it anyway, and he'd be up now anyway the way injuries played out.
  22. I would have liked to see a better backup plan (and I was thinking of stashing someone in AAA), but you are right that they can probably sign one on the fly if needed. I don't disagree about the MI, but it's certainly looked far better so far and they have 4 players that can hold down those positions defensively adequately.
  23. Hick's had a good year in AA. He wasn't "tearing it up." And, why are people still using spring training numbers? I wasn't against either trade, and you might be right that we might be able to find someone of the caliber I was talking about relatively easily (AAAA), but we are an injury away from that, or we'll probably be looking into it if Hicks's doesn't continue to improve.
  24. Ludicrous? How about exaggerating the number that I actually suggested? I wasn't suggesting four or five. I suggested one, and when I said similar to Mastro, I was implying a CF on the bubble, but one who could at least play a suitable backup, especially with the range we are lacking out there.
  25. I agree that I like almost everything Nick writes, even though I don't always agree with him. But I think to say the criticism is unfair is a bit harsh. I mean, if someone wrote the opposite about Hicks after three games we'd be crying small sample size, too. (In fact, Nick is in the opposite side of the Correia thread). Throw in the inherent bias (we know Nick was pulling pretty hard for them to start Hicks) and I think the pushback isn't surprising. On the other hand, Nick's been honest of his criticism of Hicks (last night's called third strike), too, and some here are just focused being overly and continuously critical. I do hope he's right about Hicks, though.
