  1. I haven't seen the willingham comparison, but didn't he go for 35 and 100? There is no comparison. BTW, I'm not a stats geek. I'm old school. I just pretty much go by what I see with my own two eyes when I'm watching the game. All of these new age stats are silly. The only stats I look at are OBP for the table setters, and rbi's for middle of the order guys.
  2. Baseball is a great game, although steroids have tarnished the game. Pre-steroid baseball was the best.
  3. Now I know you're screwing with me. And I swallowed it hook, line, and sinker. Stupid me.
  4. All in all, I still like Joe Mauer. I just expect more. I want numbers similar to what he put up in 2009. That's what he's getting paid to do. That's what got him his monster contract. How is this so hard for some people to grasp?
  5. Funny, it's so easy to twist statistics to make them say whatever you want them to say. When I said statistics, I was referring to his rbi totals, which except for 2009 have been embarrassingly low for a #3 hitter.
  6. His statistics dont support that.
  7. I dont even care about HR's. I'd just like to see him hit more gappers and rbi's. HR's are overrated.
  8. Im not anti-mauer! I think he's great. But he's paid to put up 2009 numbers. That's what got him that contract. I dont expect him to duplicate that season, but for god's sake atleast try to turn on a ball with authority once in a while. His entire focus seems to be his batting average. Im not hating on him. I just expect more. He's still one of my favorites.
  9. He's a good hitter, but do you honestly believe he's a top 10 hitter? Sure, he'll always finish top 10 in the batting race, but that doesnt make him a top 10 hitter!
  10. New ballpark and already bottom third in payroll, with nearly a third of that going to a singles hitting part time catcher.
  11. He didn't address his first priority either. I take anything Ryan says with a grain of salt.
  12. A Sunday get-away-day lineup! Was Gardy managing back then?
  13. It doesn't feel like Spring today!
  14. Had to study it a while before I figured out what you were talking about. Actually pretty funny.
  15. Don't forget David West and his World Series ERA of "infinity"!
  16. It's a shame the way Viola's Twins career ended. Wish he could have been a Twin for life. Then again, you can't hardly argue with getting Tapani and Aguilera in that trade.
  17. Viola had a pretty amazing run in 1987 and 1988.
  18. Few if any managers have a worse playoff record. "Historic proportions" is an accurate description.
  19. I would expect 8 innings or more out of my ace in an elimination game. I don't care if he only had three days rest. All that goes out the window in the postseason. That's what an ace does. Seems to me a couple guys named Viola and Morris did pretty good on three days rest in some pretty big postseason games.
  20. Because he's such a great rbi guy, right? Flares to the left fielder who's playing shallow generally don't score a runner from 2nd base. All they do is pad his batting average with RISP.
  21. My point is that Mauer will get more atbats over the course of the season if he bats 2nd. Hell, I'd bat him leadoff. He's the best hitter on the team. He has the best OBP. Bat him 1st and maximize his number of plate appearances over the course of the year.
  22. Exactly spot on. Not only are poor hitters getting more plate appearances over the course of the year, but Mauer's getting less plate appearances batting 3rd. I'm all for Mauer getting as many AB's as possible. Batting 2nd gets him more atbats. What could be more frustrating than Mauer batting 3rd and ending the game in the on deck circle?
  23. Explain to me what's so great about his track record? A few meaningless division titles in the most mediocre division in baseball? Beating up on the softies in the Central and always playing scared against the big boys out east? Abysmal playoff futility of historic proportions? Robotic managing? Not sending his starter out for the next inning if he's at 95 pitches (no matter how good he's going)? Burning out his bullpen by July? Batting Matt Tolbert 2nd?
  24. Brewers are nuts. $33 million and their 1st round pick for Kyle Lohse?
  25. If Guzman is his ceiling I'm off the Santana bandwagon.
