  1. Did someone say New Avatar Day?
  2. and was a heck of a housekeeper for six brats :-)
  3. He had a very nice June and July, that's for sure.
  4. i think they might since they made a point of telling the season tickets holders he would be back. Not sure teams do that regularly.
  5. unless they feel season ticket holders love the former Twin and homegrown HOFer and/or just love going to baseball games.
  6. well, we do have a plethora of Twins quality starting pitchers to point to over these past ten years to show all the success stories in Twins drafting and acquiring talent along with development.
  7. and then we see the Cubs IF. :-)
  8. I doubt he drinks Budweiser :-)
  9. I prefer to just drink straight from the keg, myself. of course, I mean a pony keg, I'm not a lush :-)
  10. But then what, trying to make sure they sell as many season tickets as possible to the fans that love the HOF former Twin before he quits? :-) Be kind of like a GM saying to the potential season ticket holder/season ticket holders that he'd do everything possible to greatly improve the starting rotation... :-) teams don't mess with their fans like that...
  11. Really, who is your NFL team? :-) But seriously, I have found Vikings fans to be nothing but a joy to deal with.
  12. You're flame-baiting, and I won't respond in the same manner. There's no need to be rude. I'm not an expert at all (and neither are you). I'm giving my opinion (just like you). And I'm backing it up with data... The only thing I'm arguing is that there are real reasons why he didn't get promoted and it's not just because of strikeouts or because he can't get a shot with this organization. His BA and OBP, ALONG WITH the K%, are real factors. This organization has a lot of faults, but not promoting a corner OF/DH type with a sub .250 BA, a sub .310 OBP, and almost 40% K rate isn't one of them. Oh, and I also never said he wouldn't be worthy of a callup ever. That's a strawman.
  13. it's not whether or not the science is bad, it's what the industry does based on it. Sort of like pitch counts. I have no idea how much he'll pitch next year. Not sure he'll see an inning increase of almost 50%, especially since he was shut down (due to fatigue, was it?), but he could. In this case, I was just having some fun doing the math :-)
  14. If, in a two-month span, a .320 OBP at AAA is acceptable for a corner OF/DH type, then yes he has. I'd argue that it's not. Just because it's better than the .291 OBP he had from the beginning of the season to the end of June, doesn't mean it's acceptable. How do you think OBPs like that translate to the majors?
  15. let's do the math. A 20% increase would be around 117 innings (2017). 20% from that, 140 innings (2018). 20% from that 168 innings (2019).
  16. Here's a couple awesome things. There have been 30 CFs who have played 500 or more innings. Buxton is tied for 7th in DRS (he has 6). He has 574 innings out there. The two he is tied with have 1051 innings and 1104 innings. Probably not out of line to say he's arguably a top 5 defensive CF right now. Mauer is tied for 6th in DRS for 1Bs in 791 innings (he has 6). The two he is tied with have at least 1100 innings. It's arguable he is top 3 in the majors at 1B defensively and arguably the best in the AL (with only Moreland really in contention for the top spot).
  17. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-dividends-of-alex-bregmans-non-adjustment/ 'While trolls and naysayers on Twitter were crying bust after Houston Astros’ top prospect Alex Bregman began his major-league career by going 0-for his first 17 and 1-for his first 32, manager A.J. Hinch was moving him up to bat in the most important spot in his team’s lineup. At the time, Hinch cited his contact rate and exit velocity as indicators that Bregman’s at-bats were better than the results indicated.'
  18. Miller is arguably the best reliever in the game, all things considered. That's a heck of a ceiling to assign to Jay :-)
  19. Because it's not just Ks. That narrative needs to die. He can't get on base at the minor league level at anywhere near an acceptable clip either.
  20. Using Trout as an argument FOR Walker's promotion is, well, wow.... And to answer your question, no it's not that simple. Keep acting as if Ks are Walker's only flaws when they aren't. Why don't you compare Trout minor league numbers to Walker's? Trout had a minor league OBP of .425, Walker .310. Mike Trout also struck out a total of 211 times in his minor league career (which was like 16% of the time). Walker struck out 200 times just this year alone. Yeah, Trout led baseball in strikeouts and won MVP that year (in actually a down year for him, really. His worst year in the majors) but he also had 705 PA and struck out 26% of the time (facing MLB pitching), not 38% of the time (facing AAA pitching). He also managed to get on base almost 38% of the time at the MLB level that year, as opposed to less than 31% of the time in AAA like Walker did (and Walker has never even seen his OBP reach 32% at any professional level). And Trout is a CF, not a corner OF/Dh type. Mike Trout probably isn't the guy you look to and say opportunity. Unless you want to say that two guys born within 3 months of each other (like Trout and Walker were) deserve the same opportunities. Walker's flaws are more than Ks.
  21. It's not wrong, bad or evil. DH is a spot in the lineup that needs to be filled. Ortiz started being mostly a DH at age 24 and few bemoan his lack of chances to stay at a position. We could continue to try and make Sano a better fielder, with it likely not turning out. In any event, last year when Sano was killing it in the majors, he was doing that mostly as a DH. It's where he'll end up sooner rather than later anyway. Hurting our defense by delaying the inevitable is, IMO, a bad idea.
  22. well, the rotation is pretty high on the list of questions for me :-)
  23. yeah, I'm sure I'm way off. I enjoyed the very polite way you showed me the error of my ways.
  24. Well, I didn't say he's a 4th OF now, I said, 'It's why I think his future SHOULD BE 4th OF.' Seems clear that the Twins DON'T have better options now so he's a starter now. Hopefully they will in the future. It's like I don't call Santana an ACE type starter just because he's easily our best starter. His talent level says screams top notch 3 starter or the lower end of #2 starter, not Ace.
  25. You two are both arguing for him to have been promoted. He doesn't believe Walker's cons outweigh his pros. You two are on the same side of the issue.
