  1. I hope not WAR (since it includes defense), but hopefully wRC+ is included in the thought process (though I doubt it, it's the managers and coaches who vote for this). With Altuve being a strong person in the MVP mix and about to win the batting title in a landslide, I still thinks he ends up winning. Better BA, OBP, OPS, OPS+ and wRC+. It should be best offensive player not just best HR hitter. But, again, managers and coaches. Mostly old school people.
  2. I like Matthew MacFadyen too, which is probably why I enjoy Ripper Street so much :-)
  3. Well, two things. First, WAR includes defense and this is an offensive award. Second, you're mixing leagues. I believe the AL and NL each get their own silver sluggers, no?
  4. I liked Broadchurch Season two a lot, but it's hard to top what Season one was. I'd recommend you finish watching it. Season 3 will be out next year. Peaky Blinders is good, so is/was Copper and even better is Ripper Street.
  5. Exactly. Altuve has a higher wRC+ as well. This isn't a knock on Dozier. He's had a great season and we've all enjoyed watching him surge, but Altuve is a frontrunner for MVP and the big reason why is his offense has been awesome all around.
  6. I'd still give it to Altuve, but it'd be nice if Dozier got it.
  7. I find myself cutting down on quantity and up on quality. It's like I never realized how bad (overall) regular TV was until the last few years when all this great stuff started coming out. Still some exceptions and/or guilty pleasures like The Blacklist, but shows like True Detective (season one), Fargo, Broadchurch, etc. make one see how good TV can be and makes me not want to waste my time with lesser work. Network television really needs an upgrade across the board, because they are getting run over...and a lot of it is done with lesser budgets focusing on story and quality acting (and, IMO, British TV has been killing us in the quality acting area on TV for quite some time). Actresses like Olivia Colman...
  8. At this point, unless it's a movie that just needs to be seen on the big screen (like, say, Star Wars movies), I wait till they come out on BluRay or on demand. No need/desire to see a comedy or drama in theater.
  9. I remember the song David Lee Roth sang about JJ Picollo. 'I'm just a Picollo, and everywhere I go. People know the part I'm playing. Paid for every dance, selling each romance. Ooh, and they're sayin'....'
  10. Jack Goin is doing a fine job. The higher ups just need to find a way to implement the info more in regards to signing FAs along with the field manager actually using it.
  11. Herizen F. Guardiola is gorgeous!
  12. Vinyl was a show that tried to be deep, and failed miserably.
  13. American Gods is the one I couldn't remember, thanks.
  14. The bar can be set higher than that, can't it? :-)
  15. Yeah, it's been fun to see. Let's hope he sustains it. Veteran players have a hard time sustaining changes in their swings/approach and often revert back to what they've always been.
  16. yeah, and that mild increase in WAR from 2014 to 2015 ( and .2 is barely worth even pointing out as an improvement) had a lot to do with just the innings pitched and the higher than normal LOB% he was fortunate enough to post. While his K% went up a bit (still pedestrian), his BB rate went up too, as did his HR rate and FIP. I pointed out lasy year around this time (and into the offseason) that I thought he took a step back in 2015 and argued we should trade Gibson before this year (hoping that GMs would just look at the ERA and innings and over-spend). I had him as my main Twins bust candidate for 2016 And now it's too late to trade him. And I'm sorry, a first round pitcher who does what Gibson has done is, IMO, a disappointment.
  17. yeah, I wish the defense had been brought up (besides a nod to fundamentals), along with his mistakes as manager.
  18. Dirk Gently looks good too.
  19. basically, the same reason some people eat at Famous Daves or Red Lobster :-)
  20. this
  21. I lived in Podunk, N Dakota at the time, good pizza was hard to come by.
  22. 'Rather than give an arbitrary number I can say that Sano's rookie season looked a lot like Bryant so far this season, so I don't think its a stretch at all to believe Sano can have an offensive year like Bryant. ' Sano's 2015 was helped GREATLY by a BABIP just under .400. Bryant's is sitting at .335 right now. And Bryant hasn't struck out almost 36% of the time this year like Sano did in 2015. He hasn't even struck out 22% of the time. Bryant's BA, OBP, SLG% all higher than Sano's last year as is his wRC+. Their numbers aren't really that close, especially when you look at what drove Sano's: A BABIP of .396. Some warned of the dropoff that would likely come as Sano's unsustainable 2015 BABIP dropped. Though his BABIP is still very good, it dropped 70 points or so. The people who thought his offensive production wouldn't hurt too much since Sano's K% would likely drop too were disappointed as Sano's K% is exactly the same as it was last year. 35.5%
  23. Ooooh, I have. I traded leftover Papa Murphys for homemade stuffed bell peppers. Yeah, I won. The guy is a very, VERY good cook.
  24. I'd suggest watching them in order. Daredevil Season One, Jessica Jones, Daredevil Season 2. These are extremely well done shows, not just well done superhero shows.
