    They should cut back to 152 regular season games and make the wild card game a 3 game series. I've heard rumblings that they are talking about taking away the divisions altogether and just having the teams with the best 5 records from each league make the playoffs.

    Clearly the Twins DIDN'T give him every opportunity to start, because he did zero to lose his spot. They yanked him out of the rotation and slowed his development as a starter. This isn't a guy 21, 22 years old. He's already starter his prime years. IF, and that is a big IF, he's ever back in the rotation full time, they will have to baby him again with his innings. They have really messed up with him if the goal is to make him a quality starter.

    Yeah, except May was already striking out more than 7 per 9 as a starter (the most of any of our starters when demoted). He was already a K guy. Pelfrey is 88 out of 89 qualifying starter in Ks. The one guy behind him has one less start and 10 less innings pitched and he's only 3 behind him Pelfrey.

    I don't know why anyone would want Pelfrey in the pen. Guy can't strike people out. Don't we have enough of that in our bullpen?

    Yeah, the contracts aren't killing this team one bit. By the time we need the money to sign the players we hope deserve big contracts, all the big contracts will be gone. What's killing this team is lack of proven MLB quality talent.

    a lot of the talent came from when Smith was GM too.

    We are tied for 28th in wRC+ for our OF this year and in the AL, no OF has a lower wRC+. So we can worry abut whether or not Hunter may or may not provide a dental floss thin more offense than Buxton may, or we can improve CF defense some and RF defense a ton by putting Buxton in CF and Hicks in RF.

    and you get an upgrade at two defensive positions.

    As long as he's showing the team how to win, doesn't matter what his offensive and defensive contributions are. He was a great pickup and may very well another great signing by TR next year. Because everyone knows it's because of him that we are even close to a playoff spot right now.

    We got to see a bunch of youngsters, we will likely still play some meaningful games in September. This season, for me, has been successful. We are slowly moving in the right direction. One of my biggest issues is that it seems they have decided that May is a bullpen guy. It is unfortunate because I think he's easily a #3 pitcher (at worse) and those guys have real value.

    Since the Blue Jays traded for Tulo, they have sold half million tickets according to the game day broadcast from the game going on right now. There was a huge surge in people buying tickets.

    ok. this is what I read on MLB Dot Com The Mariners' walk-off victory over the Orioles on Tuesday night capped an unprecedented slate in Major League Baseball. For the first time in the league's history, all 15 home teams won on the same day. Prior to Tuesday, the closest the home teams have come was 12 wins more than a century ago, on May 23, 1914, according to Elias Sports Bureau So, still pretty impressive.

    My preseason pick for AL MVP, Josh Donaldson, is tearing it up this year. As great as Trout has been (and always is) I still think Donaldson wins it.

    Yes, but can someone build up timing and hand strength in the majors, or can that just happen in AAA? :-) I hope this was taken in jest by those reading it. This reason has been batted back and forth and now it's just fun. No insults intended.

    yeah, my post had more to do with the idea that our current team would be hurt by downgrading from Hunter to Buxton. I'm not 100% that would even be true if we take into account defense and even if there was a slight dropoff in overall value, I doubt it makes any difference in the win-loss column. I've said before I have much less problem with the idea they doing this for his health, though I think if that's the case another different course of action should be implemented. I also don't think it's any safer for him to play in AAA than it is in the majors., though I get you point.

    It certainly doesn't confirm they shouldn't be taken seriously. Especially when one realizes these are comparative stats and people being compared change year to year. And when we realize performance changes year to year all the time, no one stays the same. And when we also realize these stats don't compare him to himself. I have no doubt the second part of your post is true. At least nowadays. Though hopefully for him his agent cares about it. Because over his career, it's been a positive for him and when going to the table with teams, the more positives the better in contract negotiations. And as much as some want to dismiss it at hocom, I imagine most teams don't think it's hocom. At least not the parts that go into it, even if they have things they think are better. Most people want as much good info as possible.

    What's funny is that Hunter's offense this year has been worse than last year, practically across the board. Yet he had a negative WAR last year because of horrible defense. This year, even with the worse offense, he's got a 1.2 WAR due to his defense being not quite as horrible as it was last year (but still bad). In other words, the defensive metrics he hates is what is making him look better than last year as an overall player.

    I wonder if the outstanding defense Buxton would provide would make up for the lesser offense he would produce this year. Let's see, fantastic defensive player in CF (Buxton), a very good defensive CF(Hicks) moves to RF replacing Hunter. Defense goes from Rosario, Hicks, Hunter to Rosario, Buxton, Hicks. If OPS is truly the stat to value, how many points dropoff would he have to drop to make the defensive upgrade meaningless? Assuming, winning games this year should even be the primary reason for any moves at this point.

    Torii seems like the kind of guy who would want a farewell tour with all the bells and whistles. Mmmm, all that attention. That hasn't happened this year, so I imagine he doesn't plan to retire after this season.

    I imagine most all teams will expand their rosters in September. How much playing time some of these guys who get called up for a looksie will see will be dependent on how close they are for a playoff spot and/or whether or not they are better than the options on the roster before September 1 (but the team didn't want to call them up for whatever reason, usually service year reasons). I hate the expanded roster rule myself. They always talk about how the games are more important in September (not true, all games are equally important throughout the year) and yet September is when they decided to let teams field inferior clubs as teams are jockeying for a playoff run.
