  1. . It is possible that we have an emerging star in Kepler, he seems to have a better bat this year. And do we need emerging stars.
  2. . Could do a 2006, 25-32 on June 7 and then 71-34 the rest of the year.
  3. Just watching Lynn and his pitch count shoot up reminded me that this year will be another long one. 88 pitches through 4 innings. We wonder then about lackluster fielding? Only 10 pitches in the 5th, the Toronto batters were either feeling compassion for Lynn or the players were just getting tired of taking batting practice and probably wanted to face a different pitcher.
  4. thank you, one more question, that first year he was injured was he not? Was he a victim of that injury or was he just not MLB material? Again just curious, I just recall that the few times he did connect and hit it out it was impressive.
  5. Can I ask someone, what happened to ByungHo Park? I had forgotten about him after that I believe that one year that he played with the Twins?
  6. Doesn’t this make the Twins a 90+ win team this year, especially with the condition of the division this year?
  7. . Agreed, he may or may not soon start to decline. Given the nature of that which he has achieved, perhaps as a perennial underdog, I expect him to surprise us with great play for a long time yet wherever he plays and finishes his career. He is a joy to watch.
  8. Self driving bull pen cars. Could still have celebrities or lottery fans ride in the driver seat.
  9. I am not a great fan of Mauer for a variety of reasons, but I have to say after reading this Star Tribune link I have more appreciation for him then I have ever had before. It’s probably the kids of his which really put a real human element into what he will be going through this year. Will the Twins want him back at a salary that he thinks is fair? But what is fair to the player from the standpoint of young kids (and perhaps uprooting family) with a player in or near the twilight of his career? Why do the Twins say they will treat discussions on his contract with him in the upmost respect yet they haven’t reached out to him yet even just for some polite conversation? Sure the club doesn’t have any obligation to talk yet, but a 17 year and only a Twin vet - one would think the team and Mauer would have had some back and forth already-at least if only for the club to say— hope that the year goes well and their is reason for mutually beneficial discussions in the off season.
  10. I expect to see him be aggressive and swing at hittable pitches with RISP because 2018 is another contract year for him. History thus dictates that we should see another 28 HR year out of him.
  11. I generally like your story except for two phrases. Offensive ‘juggernaut’? No that’s Walt Disney imagination. An impressive single hitting machine, clutch hitter, great reader of pitches, yes. Juggernaut- not so much. ‘Living Legend’? No, again a long reach. He will be remembered for a long time, Minnesota boy and all. But he has done almost nothing in playoff ball and that just makes his story a great Saturday afternoon matinee.
  12. How about speeding up the advance of the young arms below deck? It seems to me this a unique opportunity to do this with the class of potential young stars it appears the Twins already have on the starting diamond? A cultural look for one or two years of bringing up the young arms faster may be at a particular crossroads right now.
  13. 2006 was quite a team. No telling what happens that year in the playoffs if Litiano doesn’t get hurt.
  14. Somewhat agree except why would anyone want to fear any team especially the Yankees? Going into a playoff you expect good opposition. I certainly wouldn’t want to say some year, “Wow, we made the playoffs and we are so fortunate that we don’t have to play a Yankee team.”
  15. Why is this subject so important? Winning the division? It is certainly nice to see the progress lately after the four very bad years but winning the division in perhaps (says the article) the weakest division is not a definition of a great team is it? A deep playoff run, ie the championship series should be the minimum goal in my estimation. Again, I am not meaning to downplay the progress this team has made lately and I love the youth, we have the formations of a very strong roster for some years to come. I just believe expectations should be higher.
  16. Very nice piece, thank you! I have a molitor story. My youngest brother was married in 92. Both my brother and his wife were big fans of Molitor and took their first date at a Milwaukee game several years before. The two took a honeymoon in Toronto where they timed it for a Molitor appearance. My brother in advance of the honeymoon wrote to Molitor, telling him he and his wife were big fans and they would like to take Molitor to dinner in Toronto if he had any time. He never heard from him before or in Toronto and never really expected to. Three weeks after his honeymoon he is home from work at lunch and he gets a call. It’s Paul Molitor apologizing about how mail falls behind sometimes during the season and he had just opened the letter my brother sent.
  17. ‘Crushing it’ and recouping 3MM by voiding an agreement on a failed physical by Marte? Isn’t that sort of like knowing how to balance a checkbook and using a stop payment maneuver in a bank transaction so you don’t waste your own cash? Seems like they did something anyone else would have, hardly crushing it.

  19. . Don't mean to argue, and I think we are both discussing a great body of work all year long. But they did have to chase down Detroit (unless I am dreaming) they caught Detroit on the last day of the season. It helped that Detroit went 4-6 their last 10 games and lost 5 in a row at the end as well while the Twins went 6-4 in their last 10 including winning on the last day to over take Detroit. I biasedly include Santana's September of work that year to include his Oct 1 start in which the Twins lost 3-2, but Santana gave the Twins offense every chance to win leaving after 8 innings giving up just 2 runs.
  20. I remember that as well, a 1.05 era. That was a different month though by far. Just wrapping up a disaterous 10 game west coast road trip, the Twins by the end of the first week in June were like 7-8 games under .500 and it looked like the season was already over. Then they started two strong winning stretches where they won like 21 out of 23 games propelling them back into the race. Santana obviously contributed to that but the pressure wasn't on as yet. Now any September and especially that one where the Twins still had to chase down Detroit and finally did the last day of the season was all together different.
  21. World Series and World Series wins are somewhat out of a pitchers control since there are 8 other players on the field. Great pitchers contribute in a major way but can't get a team into the Series alone. Would Santana have made the same World Series if he was the pitcher on the Dodgers those World Series years? Would Koufax insured the Twins made the World Series 3 or 4 times? Very nice story. I don't know about any Koufax individual month analysis, but I wonder if anyone ever had a better month of September like Santana had in 2006. That was one epic month. If a pitcher did ever pitch a team into the playoffs he (and Liriano) did it that year.
  22. get your comment, my comment about his resigning is if he has a good playoff run and commands more on a new contract his deal was wasted today(Watson or who ever) and if he ends up more expensive next year than keeping him today may have been a better choice. As for how old he is, I didn't realize his age, you are right this may be his only big contract time at his age.
  23. Isn't that just a politeness comment? I really doubt he means, "If you guys want me back, I don't care if 29 other teams outbid you, I'm yours.' Of course he's not upset being dealt, why in the world would he be? He just left a team that is adrift out on a rocking lifeboat bobing around listlessly with out enough food and water for everyone (the fans) to make it back to shore. The only significant contract he'll ever get? That remains to be seen.
  24. and yes plus the international money, especially if Kintzler thrives in the playoffs.
