  1. ... or add another triple and a HR and you have mass confusion! Now you have to downgrade three triples to doubles, two doubles to singles, 2 HR to triples... and then another triple to a double, and another double to a single. Do I have that right?
  2. Randy Rosario is frequently left out of the 'Chattanooga has a great bullpen' discussion, but is having a great season. He has yet to be adopted, but is a hard-throwing (94-95 mph) left-hander, is on the 40-man roster, and is averaging 2.4 innings per outing (i.e. definitely a candidate for long reliever). Here is MLBpipeline blurb: Scouting grades: Fastball: 65 | Slider: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 45 The Twins have unfortunately had to deal with more than their fair share of helping young talented arms rehab from Tommy John surgery. Rosario had his back in 2014, and the organization liked what they saw upon his return a year later. He was added to the 40-man roster following the 2015 season. Developing mostly as a starter, Rosario moved to the bullpen late in 2016, with the switch allowing the left-hander to reach Double-A for the first time. The hope was that Rosario's stuff would play up in shorter stints out of the pen and that's exactly what happened. His fastball sat at 94-95 mph and frequently touched 96-97 mph. His slider remains an up-and-down pitch. At times, he'll show a really good one in the mid 80s, but at others, it will have inconsistent break. That should come in time and with more innings, something he missed a lot of because of the elbow injury. Part of the reason Rosario was moved to the pen was because he's on the 40-man roster and there's a certain timetable to get him up to Minnesota. A hard worker, Rosario should figure out his new role and get there in the near future. Seth's "get to know" article is here.
  3. It looks like about 20% of the appearances for Ryan Pressly (2016), Matt Belisle (lifetime), Craig Breslow (lifetime), Ryan O'Rourke, and Brandon Kintzler (pre-closer) are on back-to-back nights.
  4. I think it is going to be very hard on a bullpen to have a pitcher (or pitchers) who can't pitch on back-to-back nights and are not suited for 'long relief'. So I would imagine that would be the goal before he is called up. I know he pitched two clean innings in the blowout last night, does anyone know how he maintained his velocity?
  5. Not sure if this point has been made yet, but I am really risk-averse and cringe at the idea of being the first to draft a HS RHP at 1-1 only to have him not be able to find the strike zone. However, an even worse scenario than being the first to draft a HS RHP is to draft a position at 1-1 that has repeatedly failed. The Twins still took Mauer, the HS catcher, and I think we can all agree that his WAR of 33.5 prior to free-agency made the pick well worth it.
  6. This is going to be a long year... just came out of a meeting and was all excited that we were not behind. Then the first pitch I 'see' on Gameday is hit for a home run <dammit> ! \ and now my slow typing made me miss Sano's HR!
  7. It is even worse than that, as the new system is based upon market size, with small market teams (8) getting $5.75 million, mid-market teams (6, including the Twins) getting $5.25 million, and large market teams (16) getting $4.75 million. What a crappy year to have been the worst team in baseball! We lose money on the Rule 4 draft, and lose doubly in the international draft!
  8. Although it sounds like the accident was unavoidable, and Yorman Landa's death was only due to the unlucky placement of a tree branch, isn't it every parent's nightmare to be driving and have an accident that results in the death of one of your children. My prayers go out for his immediate, as well as Twins', families.
  9. I am not sure how many of the stadiums with have Pitch f/x, but the first two games have. It is great to be able to 'watch' the quality and location of the prospects pitches. One thing that really stands out is how (relatively) poor their command is! For MLB games, you rarely see pitches miss the plate by 6 inches, but I bet 25% of the tracked pitches in the AFL are off by that much. Even more noticeable is how many times the hitters swing at them!
  10. Regarding Arraez, I actually thought he was ranked a little too high! While it might be a little harsh, that body, and the way Jake Mauer handled him, screams DH. The bar for a future DH in low-A (even a 19 yr. old) is incredibly high, and revolves around light-tower power, not doubles and good contact skills.
  11. Maybe we can see if Granite plays in one of the Caribbean Winter Leagues (where you can actually make some REAL money) before we infer some clandestine slight the Twins have imposed on Granite? (or please at least acknowledge the possibility?) --just meant to remind everyone that there is more than one winter league...
  12. Is Williams Ramirez just a reliever now? He is doing well, but he showed promise last year as a starter. It is kinda hard to get behind any prospect who has been designated a reliever already by low-A ball.
  13. MLBTR says: Twins To Acquire Hector Santiago; Ricky Nolasco, Alex Meyer To Angels
  14. Just a bit of speculation, but perhaps we haven't had confirmation of Jeremy's Santana trade because more than ?$3 million? is changing hands, and the trade has to be approved by MLB (and they have to figure out the conversion rate ).
  15. Hey, maybe history will repeat itself, and the Twins will trade Kintzler and let Chargois and Duffy be co-closers (as they were in college at Rice)!
  16. Did you actually check this twitter site out... I hope this isn't the REAL Buster Olney!
  17. I was thinking last night, before he hit the HR, that Diaz has had a disappointing year (ala the disastrous seasons of fellow international signees Minier and Tapia). Then I actually looked at his MiLB page and found I was very wrong! While he doesn't quite reach the minimum AB for the leader board, his .924 OPS would slot in at #7, just ahead of fellow 19 yr. old Travis Blankenhorn.
  18. I apologize in advance, because there is no way this can come out right, but... is Travis Blankenhorn really this good? I know we don't like to get too excited over short-season players, but it looks like his bat is for real.
  19. First, he ended the game with only 90 pitches (and only 73 after the 5th inning). Second, the Lookouts had just tied the game in the top of the 6th, why not let him try to get the W?
  20. Interesting note from the 2nd Twins DSL game: Triple Play: (Encarnacion-Duran-Parra, J).
  21. I am such a dork... I did not realize you had it in reverse chronological order (good idea, by the way), and spent 15 minutes scouring the post because I couldn't believe you meant Casey Scroggins!
  22. ...looks like your wish has been granted ! http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=min
  23. Remember that is it not just this year; after a really slow start, Vielma hit .305 over the final 4 months (76 games; 285AB) of the season at FM last year.
  24. I think your expectations for a catching prospect may be a little too high... While my knowledge of prospects outside of the Twins organization is limited, MLBpipeline's #9 and #10 ranked catching prospects are both 23-yr. olds who are in the Midwest (Low A) and California (High-A) leagues, and have below-league average OPSs (.609 and .724, respectively).
