  1. Joe Mauer and dominate should never be used in the same sentence.
  2. This team has proven itself time and time again they are one of the most incompetent organizations in professional sports. A four game suspension for showboating is asinine. This is another case of this organization forcing a top prospect to do things the "Twins Way". Basically they aren't satisfied until they break these guys down until they are meek opposite field singles hitters who don't show their true talent until they are traded to another organization. Just get him back In the lineup and turn the page on this non story. The front office acting like overbearing parents only makes them look foolish.
  3. This move doesn't really bother me. It fits the way this front office does things. They were never going to give Benson a chance even though they are the worst team in the league for the 3rd consecutive year. Why not let him go to a new organization and see if he can overcome his injury. We get treated to 2 .200 hitting horrible defensive outfielders in the meantime to make a run at 95 losses.
  4. They should have fire saled this mess last season. Now they have zero assets to move on the major league roster. Another in a line of expected epic fails for the worst front office in the game.
  5. This way of looking at games seems to place a ton of value on power hitting. If accurate, the front office insistence for putting together a roster that consistently finishes in the Bottom 5 in HRs seems counterproductive to assembling a winning team.
  6. Burnett is no better it worse than anyone else on this staff. Other than Hicks the entire 25 man roster could be dealt or claimed and I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. This is a bottom 3 roster in the majors. Not worth getting worked up when a AA talent we had on the major league roster gets claimed. Addition by subtraction.
  7. The upside of Correia is Nick Blackburn on a shorter but equally ridiculous contract. He won't be on the roster June 1st. I'd be stunned if his ERA is below 7 after 6-8 starts. I haven't seen anything from Worley that suggests he was really anything but a throw in in the Revere trade. I think Pelfrey is fine as a 4-5 guy but since that's all this team has, he's basically replacement level. Until Meyer and Gibson are in this rotation full time its bottom 3 in the league. So while the rotation might be clear, its obvious its not any better than last year.
  8. On a 90-100 loss team I'd take Thome over any of those stiffs listed. The correct approach is to get as many ABs as possible for guys like Plouffe, Parmalee, or bring up Arcia. But would I rather see Thome hit a 3 run shot in a 10-4 loss where Correia went 2 1/3 innings? Sure.
  9. Roster filler. Countdown to 100 loses in T-minus 3....2.....1.....
  10. I don't care what the record is. I view progress by some of the following occurring: 1. Plouffe establishes himself as an everyday player 2. Morneau is traded for someone that contributes at the major league level in 2014 or 2015 3. Mauer over 85 RBIs 4. Worley is a legit 200 inning #3 starter 5. Diamond doesn't regress 6. Parmalee plays everyday at 1B or RF and produces 7. Burton and Perkins are solid at the back of the pen 8. Correia is in Rochester or cut by June 1st 9. Someone is a legitimate middle infielder 10. Either Gibson or Hendricks pitches more than 150 innings (or whatever the max is for Gibson) and is around 10 wins and a sub 4.25 ERA andkm opposing batters aren't hitting .330 against then. i love this team's minor league system. I just don't see a core to build around that I 100% trust. I'd like to see Diamond, Worley, Plouffe, Perkins, and Parmalee be the core but there are question marks around all of those guys. Mauer I view honestly as a complimentary piece. He's a great hitter but they are just as likely to win 90 games with him as without him. Not a clubhouse leader in anyway and his salary hinders a true rebuild. That said, if other pieces are in place he's steady and gets on base.
  11. I had to throw on my game worn Scott Kingenbeck jersey when I read this!! Picked it up at Twinsfest for $50 while the rest of the jerseys were over $100. The next cheapest one I saw was Alex Cole for $90 but it wouldn't have fit anyone over 130 lbs. The Kingenbeck is roomy to say the least!
  12. What is the penalty for losing an arbitration hearing with the worst hitter in baseball for the last 50 years?? My guess is that what drives a front office to offer up $700K to Drew Butera.
  13. My only disappointment is we had a shot to have the worst pitcher in the AL (Blackburn) AND the worst pitcher in the NL (Correia) in the same rotation.
  14. I like Mastroianni and think there is no harm in giving him a chance to make the jump to everyday starter. The Twins might as well give him 450-500 ABs as the lead off hitter and see what they have.
  15. Swarzak probably would have been DFAd by 25 or so teams last year. He's as next to worthless as you can be on a major league roster. I'd go with Pressley, Wood, and Slama and maybe Harden and just see what happens for a couple of months. Maybe one of them develops and is an option down the line. On a 3rd straight 90+ loss team the only thing the Twins should be doing is testing out young talent and trading assets like Morneau and Willingham for more upside guys for when the team is competitive.
  16. Only Correia was a truly horrible signing. Harden and Pelfrey are low risk moves. The 10 million on Correia could have been better spent on ANYTHING including more beer vendors at Target Field. But overall I think the Twins get a C+ this offseason so far. I was expecting the usual F. Not too bad. Like building up the future with decent prospects.
  17. Come on!! Mauer won't have 200 HRs, 1,000 RBIs, or 100 SBs in his career. He has had ONE season where he hit more than 13 HRs or had more than 85 RBIs. He's never won a playoff series and has exactly ONE postseason RBI. He's a great singles hitter that had ONE great season. I mean if there was a 2009 Hall of Fame Mauer would be a lock but there are literally dozen and dozens of guys that are more deserving of the HOF than Mauer.
  18. The rotation has improved just by the addition of Worley and the subtraction of Blackburn over last year. Marquis and Correia are a wash, both horrendously bad. I like Diamond and Worley. It's a start and they both know how to pitch. I kind of wish they'd let Deduno pitch. He was the only guy in the rotation that could miss bats. His control could come around. He's honestly better than Hendriks or DeVries just by way of he has upside. I'd go Worley, Diamond, Deduno, Hendriks, and Gibson after May when Correia is Marquis 2.0 and Pelfrey is shut down in Spring Training with arm soreness.
  19. The Twins will never spend the money to bring in real competition for anyone so why do they play this game? Just go get pitching and a backup catcher and middle infield help. Plouffe isn't Mike Schmidt by any means but he's 20 times the player anyone Ryan is willing to sign. Skip Schumaker? jack Hannahan? Lets get serious. That's roster filler not competition.
  20. Paradigms not really justified?? There is a 25 year tsunami of evidence that proves the Twins love pitch to contact guys and are cheap. The most frightning thing about the last few years is you used to get the sense that the Twins real goal was to make the playoffs and hope. They were reletively successful at it. Solid seasons followed by god awful play in the playoffs but it was all fine and good and made for pleasurable summer nights at the ballpark. Now this front office is trying to sell this scam that the price of player forces them to not look at free agents and then piss away money on clowns like Correia who you can bank won't be on the major league roster by July. There is NOTHING about Correia that makes him worth signing a minor league deal. He is not a starting pitcher on an ok non-playoff NL team and will be a complete disaster in the American League. He is basically a NL version of Nick Blackburn. The only thing that makes any sense is this was purly a PR move so the Pohlads didn't get called out for cutting salary and pocketing the money. I suppose Correia is a nice enough guy and we can be happy for his new fat bank account. At least the $10 million isn't rotting away in some Pohlad vault somewhere. I'd comfortably give this signing an F
  21. He's the NL Nick Blackburn
  22. Wade Davis nothing special?? Find me a Twin within 2 years of the majors with a 11+ Ks per 9. He a very very solid major league proven arm.
  23. It depends. If you could get Shields to sign an extention he's easily worth Arcia and Gibson. Hendriks will never be anything but roster filler at the major league level. Arcia, Gibson, & Harrison for Davis and Shields is a decent trade. Shields would easily be the Twins best Pitcher since Santana and Davis is AT WORST our 3rd best starter or a proven reliever. I think people are a little too high on Gibson. He's a solid pitcher but he's already had Tommy John and the Twins organization is probably the worst training staff in the majors so its not like he's guaranteed to come back as strong as before or without issues. Basically if the Twins could land Shields without giving up a Top 3 prospect (Hicks, Sano, or Buxton) then they should make that deal every day if they are condending while Shilds is under contract. The Royals are a year or two closer to contention so I think they made the right deal. This deal would only help MN if they could lock up Shields on a longer term deal. If so, I find it hard to think they shouldn't pursue this type of proven starter.
  24. I totally disagree. The Royals have a ton of young talent, not just in the minors but on the major league roster too. Davis is under team control until 2017 and Shields through 2014. They gave up a lot but people calling Shields a #2 haven't seen the Royals and Twins pitch in the last 3 years. Shields is only a #2 on one of the most stocked rotations in the league. Shields is probably the 2nd best starter in the division behind Verlander and is LIGHT YEARS from anything the Twins will trot out in the foreseeable future. At some point people need to realize the goal of the game is to win titles. What point do the Royals wait to contend? They've built their prospects up and they are using those assets to step up and contend. That's the point. Not tell your fans you are going to contend and sign Jason Marquis every year. I hope the Twins do the same thing. Build up their minor league stable and graduate some to the majors but use others to make deals to make a run. They are already doing the first part by rebuilding their minor league talent.
