  1. 1, Aiken 2, Kolek 3, Rodon 4, Beede 5, Holmes Law ( or whom ever he talks to that scouts him) has never been high on Turner, that's not going to change because if Law didn't value what he brought to the table before the season, he's not going to value it now.
  2. Here's the Patrick Mooney article on the Cubs targets at 4. http://www.csnchicago.com/cubs/mlb-draft-cubs-identifying-targets-no-4-overall-pick It doesn't give deep analysis, but it does give some insight into who the Cubs are looking at and who they wouldn't let fall past them. He sheds some light on why they seem to be connect to Beede so strongly and he also reminds people that it was this time last year when Gray and Bryant started to rise. I'm start to think Hoffman falling to the Twins at 5 is more likely than Kolek at this point.
  3. I found this to be the most interesting nugget from Law: "If the draft were held today, (Jackson would) probably be in the mix for all teams drafting in the top five, with the Miami Marlins already linked to Tyler Kolek at No. 2 and the Cubs at No. 4 linked to Tyler Beede." Who do you think this would this leave the Twins at 5? Thoughts?
  4. His baseball team's twitter account says this.: through 11 games he's hitting .371 with 2 HR with 7 RBIS 4 doubles and 8 runs scored. Last year I though I heard he hit .320 BA. Oh, and Alex Jackson had his first game of the year. 1-3 plus hit by a pitch. Found that here.
  5. On my ipad and phone, the video wasn't visible, but it shows and plays on my computer. Great kid, wish him well.
  6. Huh, I honestly don't know, is that a St. Peter decision or A Ryan one? Who Would fire Johnson?
  7. Yes it is, even 1st round okay. The questions is in a deep draft, is it top five pick okay?
  8. Kolek control is his number one issue, on the other hand if his control was any better at this stage there would be no chance he falls to 5th. His curve is used more than his slider right now, and learning to stop tipping pitches is fixable, BUT some experts think his slider could end up better than his curve; meaning he could ditch the curve down the road and still be a dominate starter. Like you mentioned things like the foot issue can be fixed with professional coaching, but the reason Kolek is a round ahead other high school flamethrowers isn't just the extra mph or two he can put on his fastball, it's his size and the ease he can throw it (not labored).
  9. I'm low on Holmes, partially because of his lack of ceiling or projection, partially because in every picture I see of him, he looks like the kid who sits in the back of classroom shooting spitball at his friends and drawing penises in his textbooks.
  10. IF Santana plays well this spring, IF he ends strong in AAA, then there may not be a short term need for SS, or a need for a fast riser. But this effect the Twins trading and free agent plans more than their draft plans. Plus a guy like Gatewood is 5-6 years away from playing on the Twins, around the time Santana would be getting close to free agency. Baseball has such a deep minor league system, BPA is the only way to address a top 5 pick IMO.
  11. That's the problem when someone ask for the "Last Time" instead of "How many times". I'd guess 4 out of 5 times it seems to go down the surgery road. Sano will be fine. If surgery, this is a 7-9 month thing, and I'd even be fine with them waiting a couple months before testing it out as well. People (before the tweak)who were hoping for All Star Break this year were too optimistic anyway. IMO. September call up, sure. But he's doesn't even need to be on the 40 man yet.
  12. I think MLB.com had Minier at #2 even.
  13. Just because I didn't see anybody else post it yet. Mike Berardino wrote a brief article on the signing. http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2014/02/25/twinsights-twins-corral-australian-slugger-jack-barrie/ A few highlights: - Had a great showcase at the Under-18 national championships in January that put him on the map. - At least 3 other teams wanted to sign him. - Got closer to 250,000 - He's going to be a 1st Baseman. - Expected to Start in the GCL this year.
  14. That's 4 big contract corner infielders this signing period. I find that interesting. The Twins have been drafting a lot of pitchers The last two drafts and power is expensive to sign so it's not a bad plan, just hope they can find at bats for all these kids. Barrie has a power swing and power build for sure. I'll be rooting for him!
  15. If the Twins were to draft him, I'm fine with him starting at Catcher like Will Myers did, if it's clear his catching skills can progress with him, keep him there; but if there is a time they'd think about not promoting him because of his defensive at catcher then move him off. Unless he never wants to be a catcher in the first place that is, I think he should have a say in his future as well.
  16. At this point yes, I'll take Jackson over Beede. lack of control and great stuff could one day make him an ace or a shooter hunt. Jackson bat will bring him to the Majors, at catcher or right field.
  17. A big factor is if there on the 40 man and they get injured, which is costly. Since Sano isn't on the 40 man I think Gardy will keep him around longer to get a longer look at him. I say guys like May, Vargas, and Kepler get sent down before Sano.
  18. Cease and Marshall seem like inbetweeners to me. Guys who will never break the top five of any board, but very unlikely to fall to the 2nd round. Kind of like Resse McGuire last year, A guy the Twins would have grabbed if they were a little lower in the draft. If there was trading picks in the draft, I'd give them both a better look, otherwise I don't like hoping for a kid's stock and future to skydive down during the season, just so the Twins can grab one of them later (Like Eades and Gonsalves last year).
  19. Okay, let get this thread back on track. So, cmb2052 where does he have Turner?
  20. Yep, I'm guessing this ranking will be an outlier. Alex Jackson has been pegged as maybe a top 3 guy, so I'm guessing picks 2-5 or 3-6 will end up being a tier. McDaniel has a lot of other guys much lower than I'd expect too.
  21. The LAST thing I want to read is the top tier ends at 4 players!
  22. Because the college season has started in some states, but the high school season has not, you gong to see more chatter about college guys for awhile, not because the high school guys have lost stock, but because we don't have a lot of new data or reports on them. Gatewood is an example of a guy the Marlins could target, someone who could be the cream of the draft, but is slotted in the top 10. So the Marlins cut a deal to save cash/cap space.
  23. Having a high Avg., fast, infielder who can stick at Short is definitely a first round pick. But his top five status will depend on if he shows power again this year. 5-10 home runs may be all it takes.
  24. First I'm avoiding the whole 'are the Twins spending what they should' dialog because I think that conversation has been played out. Diehardtwinsfan comments make me think about one comment and one question. The Comment: I don't think this system was created to fail, I think it's failing because there were too many compromises in the negotiations for a new system. The spending limits was set up to accomplish two things. 1, To keep spending down on amateur players and 2) to divide the young talent up more equally; essentially to change it from a 'who spends the most' system to a 'who scouts the best' system. When a low budget team like the Rays takes on the penalties, some could argue that team is just taking a calculated risk on talent they like this year vs the talent that is available next year. On the other hand, When The highest revenue team plans to spend more money than they ever have to grab the most high end talent they can; Then the new system failed to accomplish it's goals. The Question: If only the owners and the players union are in the negotiations, what does the union have against an international draft of players, they don't, and in most cases will never, represent?
