  2. Houses and pancakes, fingers and bats ... go right ahead and flip. In my humble opinion, the bat flip is even better than the homerun promenade ... but if you combine them both, that's perfect. Florimon's was actually a little cooler than Ortiz's - not that I have anything against his bat flip, but it was more reminiscent of a walk than a moonshot, if you know what I mean. And if you hit one out, this is what you should do: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5WtuR1RmG9M/UC8W-BMCDxI/AAAAAAAAEVI/-uSMXvQKeS8/s1600/EE-Bat-Flip.gif And to expand a bit on the general theme, if pitchers want to come off the mound pumping their fist and/or swearing into their glove, I think they should be prepared for the occasional bat flip following the home runs they allow.
  3. A little over a week ago I cautiously predicted that the Twins would go 18-20 to finish the season. As of today, we need to win 12 of 30 to hit that mark. I'm still not calling playoffs, but ... we're not disgracing ourselves!
  4. This talk about Jepsen has me wondering ... What if I was Terry Ryan?
  5. I remember hearing somewhere that Tom Herr didn't have a tail after all. So it was Suzuki stole it? Good to know.
  6. If I remember correctly, at the time the comment was made, Mauer had just gone down swinging with a full count. I have a hard time blaming Gameday or Lance Barrett ... but if we're talking about the whole game ... I'll agree with anyone on that subject.
  7. To expand on a former Hrbowski theme, the White Sox are one of the best teams out there.
  8. Huh ... he went down swinging, no? Or are you speaking of the 3rd base ump? Or was there no appeal? (Forgive the idiotic questions ... I'm on Gameday.)
  9. "High fastball? I have no high fastball." Mauer (can't help that he's on deck) turns to Sano and calmly says, "Tear his arms off." Petricka: "Oh, you mean THIS high fastball." //blast I'm sure I jinxed it
  10. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. And book it. Is that better?
  11. The question is ... are they intended to keep him in or you out?
  12. I'm relieved to hear I'm not alone. <glares vindictively at Hrbowski>
  13. Yeah, I was so busy reading Dostoyevsky I didn't even find out about the Twins fans' antics until I saw this article on TD. Now, to be totally honest I wasn't at the game, but my nose was buried deep in my book at the time.
  14. The wave is dumb. It doesn't bother me as much as some people ... it's more of an embarrassment that I just have to let slip off my shoulder ... but if someone wants to rant about that, I'm all with them. If you're upset about something, go right ahead and rant away. I guess the reason I'm bothered by the wave is because it paints Minnesotan sports fans out as what they are: passive followers of their team. Then 29 other teams' fan bases can point their righteous fingers and laugh, and what can I say in defense? If fans really feel the need to do something together, why can't it at least be game related? Shouting "Rookie of the Year!" every time Sano came to the plate would probably annoy a lot of people, too, but at least it would have something to do with the game on hand. Show some love for your players instead of Dave St. Peter. And hey, don't rip Chelsea Dagger. It's a great song. Really. If you hate it that much, there is always a volume adjuster on your TV, and no doubt you'll never be forced to go to United Center against your will.
  15. Since my last update, Westphal has started 3 more games in Fort Myers, losing 2 and winning 1. Wins and losses are an irrelevant stat, however, and that is emphasized by the fact that he only gave up 3 runs over the 18 innings he pitched in those games, a huge improvement since his last shot at High A. He is also going deeper into games, throwing 7 innings on the 13th, 5 on the 19th, and 6 on the 25th. He also has 19 strikeouts over the 22.2 innings he has thrown since his promotion while walking only 5. His ERA in High A is down to 3.07 over 55.2 innings (2.94, 85.2 on the year), and his WHIP is 1.46 (1.28).
  16. Do it, Bark. Just do it. It won't hurt any, and honestly, the paper, ink, envelope, and postage would cost less than a single Powerball ticket. Who knows? You might make Howard Lincoln's secretary's day. Or better yet, get the job and make mine. Also, I think you're the first person I've ever seen list the women first. Thank you. That made my day in and of itself.
  17. A few random thoughts: E-San has impeccable style. He should never even consider cutting off his hair, at least as long as he's on the Twins. I see I'm not the only one whose eyes started out like a crab's and whose eyebrows were elevated to the ceiling during that interview. I can never begin to understand why teams don't play deeper for Sano. Like, 100 feet deeper.
  18. It's a beautiful day for a homerun, but even a triple's okay! Okay, am I of a certain age?
  19. If Nunez slapped hands with Gomez when he crossed the plate, what would happen next?
  20. Try humoring your [hypothetical] flute teacher. You'll learn pretty quickly that passing out is not an option, while turning blue is a requirement ... well, at least an expectation.
  21. I thought it was just an eerily familiar Ripperger home plate.
  22. Uhhh ... anyone mind explaining that call? I just checked on MLB Gameday and can't quite seem to figure this one out.
  23. Wait, what? We got him back?
