  1. BTW where is Gibson supposed to be this year and how's he healing/progressing from TJ?
  2. That's one nice thing about having former SP in your BP. I'd prefer Duensing to make spot start early on if need be since he's the least removed from doing so. I doubt both Marquis and Baker will be unavailable for their first starts, which is not to say that either will be effective. I'm less worried about Baker than Marquis (new team, mind on his daughter[understandably], 5th man in the rotation). With just under two weeks left, Baker still has time to stretch out and increase his velocity. Twins starting pitching will determine what kind season this will be. I think this is true most years but especially this year.
  3. I'd love to see Hughes get a shot to start. Solves the backup SS problem with Casilla as the utility man, and perhaps Hughes burst through with reliable and desperately needed production on this club. Why not take a chance? We did with Casilla.... well, we keep taking that chance with Casilla, hoping he can put it together. Unless Hughes' defense is a real liability at 2B, give him a shot to start and keep starting. If he blows it, then put Casilla back in... this seems like a great bet.
  4. Just looking at what it takes to be rule 5 pick (left off of another teams 40 man) means that MUCH more often than not, the player with not make the 25 man of his 'new' team (especially for the duration of the season) unless that team is rebuilding and doesn't care how inept the player is this year, or if the player can be hidden -- to long relief/low stress situations -- which means that most rule 5s are pitchers (I'd guess without looking this up). For a rule 5 to have already been left off the 40 man of another team, yet serendipitously make and contribute to another team's MLB club is rare, very rare (again unless the the above rebuilding/hiding scenario is at work. Therefore, I suppert the thesis that keeping a rule 5 is high risk/reward if trying to be competitive that year, so furthermore, the rule 5 is generally overrated.
  5. PNC here in Pittsburgh. Beautiful.
  6. I hope you are correct, that this is a temporary 'wait and see' approach. If this happens, I see the reason not being a worry about cobwebs from the concussion per se, but the ability to focus on hitting and hitting alone. This tactic of DHing Morneau is an emersion into hitting.... getting so many reps that either he pulls out of his hitting funk, or breaks himself trying. I politely disagree: I never expect Revere in RF except for some bizarre emergency.
  7. If Mourneau is the primary DH, Mauer primary C, and Parmelee primary 1B, does this put Doumit as the primary RF with Willingham in LF? This would make some scary bad defense in the OF. The plan for Doumit was for more than just backup C duties, but primary DH given his defensive limits. If Parmelee makes the team, you have to move Doumit from DH to RF to keep his bat int he line-up, no? Yes, I get that there will be plenty of rotating/shifting (whether this maneuver is full of wisdom or not), but just this move of Morneau to DH for Doumit is a defensive downgrade no matter if Doumit is in RF or someone else-- again, as a primary lineup.
  8. Look in to the fallacy called "false cause."
  9. Would Willingham have gotten it?
  10. There's some offense! And Moreau!
  11. Thrylos, spit up a little laughing with the "hopefully Liriano can overcome Butera catching" instead of Rivera. Looks like he's doing just fine, an omen, I hope, for the entire year no matter who's catching.
  12. Like last week, I really, really hope they don't take 3 Cs north, but send Hollimon and Burroughs along with Plouffe and Hughs. Hollimon has some power and speed, necessary for pinch running in the final bench spot. Though, if it is necessary -- and some day some one please provide a cogent argument -- to bring 3 catchers, then at this point I agree with Thrylos and bring Rivera up. We know what we get with butera, what's the harm in trying a different guy with no potential, again... if we must... <<<head shaking>>>...
  13. If the Twins hope to be competitive, we will probably need more RBI from Josh than what's projected here. I see a great year for Willingham, hitting .265/.350/.470. Since his power has never been so that his HRs just barely leave the field, I don't anticipate the spaciousness of Target limiting his HR production, I'd guess 24HR, though I see him hitting measurably more doubles in this park (as long as I'm correct with the .265 average, and hitting line drives rather than moon balls). I really hope Josh can more than replace Cuddyer's numbers, even with equal defense.
  14. I'm worried that he will be hitting well below .200 at the end of ST. He needs rest for that wrist and his batting will not improve until his swing is mechanically sound. Until his wrist heals, it's stubbornness pushing futility up a big, rocky hill.
  15. Refresh my memory, but how many previous concussions has Span had in his life? I believe this was his first and because of this, I don't expect him to have many 'bad' days like Morneau whom has had several previous concussions. I don't find the concussion concerns warranted for Span for this reason, but no two head injuries are the same. Nonetheless, I see a .740 OPS for Span this year, which I hope Morneau can match.
  16. Not being a grinch, but the only recent twin territory commercials I've found fun or got me excited to watch the team was the days of Torii Hunter -- smashing a pinata at a kid's birthday party. These commercials are lame.
  17. Carroll is really working himself back to a bench role: 0 for 3 with 3 Ks! Saving grace was one that one walk, but let's hope he can turn it around. I see a quick flip in the order of Carroll to the 9 hole and casilla/revere to the 2 hole maybe depending on the R/L pithcer also. He's just been bad at the plate and very average in the field.
  18. I believe "nicksaviking" is referring to the AAA positioning. You have both Dozier and Nishi playing short. This is the issue: who starts at SS at AAA?
  19. Looking forward to Carroll's Box today. With Casilla batting (and playing) well and Dozier (perhaps) in the mix now, will Carroll continue to get one base this week and will he be anemic with the bat? I predict 0/2 with a walk.
  20. No, this is better than wasting ABs on Butera. Some of our pitchers can at least bunt -- "handle the bat" as Gardy likes to say.
  21. It will be painful to watch them trot Morneau out there in the last throws of his effective baseball life.
  22. Marquis' control is why we need a strong defensive catcher like Butera... see the logical steps?
  23. When he does throw strikes, he gets shelled. Therefore, he's pitching scared and nibbling. This is a major problem, and one that I don't see going away this season. I hope I'm wrong, but predict that Marquis will be out of the starting 5 by the end of May.
