  1. To Mark Reynolds of the Os, but with a worse eye, plate discipline and (therefore) worse OB%. Both 3rd base base and are all or nothing with their swings.
  2. Ok, great game Twins, now for some further reflection: Gray is quickly becoming what most of us thought he would, a very mediocre mop-up only pitcher. Not good. Any changes with Gray or should we keep him as long relief/mop-up only? I'd say give him a couple more appearances and see what happens, as long as those appearances are low-leverage situations.
  3. Revere is going to have to hit an inside the park homer for us to win. But with how we're running bases, he'll be meat at the plate. Pulling my hair out.
  4. Exactly, you make them take out at first.
  5. This is what drives me crazy about how they handle Mauer: If he can't pinch hit in the 8th or 9th like he should have, the PUT HIM ON THE %$#@ DL!!!!!
  6. All starter with an ERA sub 4.50 get credit, as does Burton along with the rest of the pen. Hammer, Span and Morneau (to a lesser extent) get credit too.
  7. I'm of the opinion that you've nailed it. Good question and I concur with your analysis and conclusion.
  8. This team is more than capable of playing .500 baseball the rest of the year. In fact, I think they'll do just that. The lineup should have been bright spot all along and has been adequate, the bullpen a surprising bright spot for sure, especially in comparison to yesteryear, but starting pitching will continue to be a roller coaster. Starting pitching is the most important thing is baseball. Period. Look at the Pittsburgh Pirates. Horrible offense, but they win many games 2-1 3-1.
  9. I've always had the impression that Baker was most guilty of giving up the 0 - 2 long ball. I still am. It's amazing how some pitchers do great in getting a batter to 0 - 2 and then put one in the zone. Is it hubris? A mistake? Or, fleeting mental focus?
  10. Just a gentle pedantic correction: Only with valid (deductive) arguments is it true that the truth of the premises guarantee the truth of the conclusion. You had it correct the first time about the likelihood of truth for the inductive argument, that is until we are confronted with David Hume's analysis of induction as habit.
  11. Welcome! Don't let the very fews jerks on here lead you to self-censor your innocent questions. We all asked them at some point in our life. Also, it's okay to give an opinion on the various threads, though you may be asked to provide support for it. Usually it will be a nice interchange of ideas and claims
  12. I don't care for the song, but that's it.
  13. Now if Marquis accrues a sub 3 ERA the rest of this season, I'll join to call for pitching coach 'adjustments'
  14. Thrylos, I don't find your thesis absurd. Yet, I'm also not willing to subscribe to it just yet either because I'm sure we can find several pitchers whom became better when with the Twins and worse upon leaving. I'm only going to look at dramatic (.5 ERA) differences when considering the pitcher as better or worse, because smaller amounts are a difference in degree not kind, and I think you are trying to expose how pitchers become a significantly better pitcher post Twins. I did look over your list carefully and have never figured out why we let Breslow go. Money? I don't recall. In summary, I enjoy an argumentative thesis, and you have an interesting one here, even if it's a little long on the claims and short on the evidence (I'm speaking of balance here).
  15. Tonight Plouffe answered, then hung up immediately. His swing looks similar to Willingham's, but his approach, eye and discipline draw no further comparison. Maybe Hammer can help him out, but here's one tip: don't swing at a first pitch 10 inches inside. That's stupid. I love aggressive hitting, but not that. I still have hope he can figure it out.
  16. Burton has been a very good for us. WIth the WSOX losing tonight, and with a win for ourselves, we're just back 9 games. We've overcome more in a shorter amount of time... optimist hat is on.
  17. Is Herrera really throwing 100+ mph?
  18. We'll take 5.0 IP and 2 ER from Blackburn any day. Hope it sticks. I also want to underscore the point about Plouffe's hitting approach: ground into a double play on the first pitch of an AB, that was way insides -- well, that is just horrible. I like aggressive hitting when the pitcher is laying in the first pitch for a strike, but this approach has been fool hearty.
  19. There will be continue to be significant turnover between now and the end of 2013, which makes predicting the 2014 roster impossible beyond those still under contract (Mauer, Hammer, Perkins, Span and options on Blackburn, Carroll and Yoshi... that's it, right?)
  20. Dang, I thought this was for 2013, scrap the below: SP FA (Joe Blanton?) FA (Colby Lewis?) Blackburn Diamond PJ Walters/Hendricks/De Vries (in order of likelihood) CF - Span LF - Revere C - Mauer DH - Hammer 1B - Morneau RF - Torii Hunter (If price is right; a gimmick to keep attendance up at worst) 3B - Valencia SS - Dozier 2B - Carroll/Casilla Not a bod lineup, but still a very weak SP rotation
  21. Well, no need to keep following this game now. Will a starting pitcher please stand up?...
  22. Morneau comes to the plate again (good) with no one on (bad). Got to lay off that low change up. Almost same pitch Mauer GIDP on.
  23. Way to swing at ball 4 and GDP on a 3-1 count there Joey.
  24. I see as a team tonight our WHIP is over 2 -- Not so good my friends, not so good.
  25. Thank you for the info Must have been a terrible call to get a stoic Carroll that amped up, eh?
