  1. How about not so good a pitch with two strikes there Vance
  2. 2013 Predictions: Exceeding expectations: Dozier Expectation flopper: Burton 74-88 4th in central Twins win today 5-4. Go Twins!
  3. Not to be overly pedantic, but Plouffesie and Parmeleesie are swapped in order. Correction: Now there are lineups posted with Plouffe batting ahead of Parmelee, a change from yesterday.... so even more kudos to Nick
  4. This Gray is or is not related to the Jeff Gray?
  5. Raise the Jolly Roger, Pirates!
  6. There's a secret military installation below you.
  7. I really don't care all that much.
  8. I guess I'm a little dense. I don't understand what's awesome about this tweet.
  9. Please Gardybear, keep this lineup throughout the season, and bat Dozier in the 8 hole when he plays.
  10. No, I'm not saying don't attend. I don't know how or why you think I'm implying that either. I'm saying that all that extra stuff is mostly noise to me, but since it's mostly between innings, I don't care so much. I'm glad people go to baseball games for whatever reason and for whatever they get out of it. Without these folks, there'd be no money to support a team. I'm just saying that there is a lot more to baseball than the casual observer will ever (or wants to) know, and that a lot of the interesting/fun stuff of baseball (situation, strategy, match-ups) requires attentive focus and this is all the more difficult for a fan with bells and whistles begging to be heard/seen -- and because the game of baseball is slow in nature already, it takes effort to tune in at times especially for the casual and non-native baseball fan. And if the ballparks/teams think you must be constantly bombarded with sensual experiences, and you are a passive observer of the game -- you'll have a hard time ever realizing the fun/interesting things we more focused fans find in the game. I'm not saying that in a condescending way, though I do think it's symptomatic of our culture. It's just a shame more than anything. To your analogy: Ah, but what is the entertainment between songs? Now that would be interesting. In order to sell more tickets, perhaps Yo-yo Ma should rig up a kiss cam between and even during the songs.
  11. I don't recall bad blood between Worley and the Pirates but since he came from Philly, maybe there's something there... I should probably know, but don't.
  12. Noticed that Worley hit Martin in the first and AJ Burnett hit Vargas to begin the second -- retaliation? Were either of these intentional?
  13. Robertson has had some truly terrible appearances this spring. Wrote elsewhere that the bottom of the pen may collapse in 2011 style.
  14. Current OPS of 2.000 == Hot damn! I keed, but it's nice to see him get some MLB at bats.
  15. Besides the two worst things about the 25 man 1) that KC is on it and 2) not any better pitcher we could and should have signed, I'm not sold on the bullpen at least the long and middle relief. I know its ST, but I have not been impressed by the guys fighting for a spot except for Pressly. This could be a Bullpen blowup like 2011. I'm optimistic that while the MI will OPS in the lower third of the league, they will be almost average on defense -- serviceable I think they say. Also see a lot more of Willingham at DH and Doumit on the bench to PH this year -- also because of not carrying a third catcher. I'm fine with this.
  16. This. It encourages already low attention-span folks to remain unfocused on a game that for most aspects (besides a hit, run and strikeout) - can only be appreciated with the focus and attention they lack.
  17. Doable goal for the starting rotation is to have a sub 5 ERA. That gets us into 70 wins area. A doable goal for most years should be a sub 4.5 ERA from the rotation, which helps get into the 80 wins area and a good pitching staff should aim for a sub 4 ERA (for the good to elite rotations) which helps get you into the 90 wins area (potentially-- of course on all these wins by an average or better offense). Therefore, I'm just hoping for a sub 5 ERA from the rotation and a sub 4 ERA from the pen -- which could get us in 70s and maybe up to 80 wins area. I think the offense is capable of averaging 4.5 runs/game (was 4.33 in 2012), so as long as the pitching and defense allow runs against of sub 4.5 (runs allowed per game in 2012 was 5.14), we are playing .500 baseball (this is the pythagorean W/L stat right?) This is my hope, but will aim for 75 wins as an attainable goal.
  18. Who's the poor guy bumped out the rotation?
  19. That snow...person needs a bra... just a suggestion.
  20. Sounds like Boras has joined the hyperventilating sequester-apocalypse chorus.
  21. If Doumit finds himself playing defense with grass below his feet -- other than in an emergency only -- we are not trying.
  22. Besides batting Dozier second, I can at least see why Gardy would want his lineup this way -- against LHP it alternates R/L batters as is, and RHB against RHP in only the 2 and 8 holes. (Florimon, Hicks and Doumit are all switch hitters, right?)
  23. A ban for 3-7 days is hardly egregious. Accept it, learn from it, come back or don't. It's a great baseball site. Some commenters' snark is well done, fun and refreshing. I appreciate it. Others are either very bad at snark, or are intentionally ill-willed. Kinda like the difference between art and pornography. You know it when you see it. Self-censoring for fear (or to avoid the hassle) of being beat up by other commenters may be a growing problem.
