  1. Doesn't this mean that Parmelee made the team? If Parmalee isn't going to rochester, they needed another AAA option at first base. I think this move seals the deal for Parmelee, he has made the big club and won't be going to Rochester any time soon.
  2. Do we create a bench spot for the guys? Do we send him down again? He hit .300 last year at the major league level. He has hit over .300 so far this spring. Now he has a home run. Nobody talks about the guy, but he just keeps getting hits. Screw the third catcher spot and bring Dinkleman with on opening day.
  3. I agree, it was worth a shot. I think the strategy is to find a player that may benefit from new or different coaching. Some guys just need a new environment. Some times a coach or instructor within an organization can make it click for that player. Just because it didn't work for us this time around, doesn't mean it wasn't worth the try. As others have pointed out it has really turned into a long shot to find that diamond in the rough, but that is what baseball is all about.
  4. spoke too soon. Grand slam and they are still batting in the second. I guess he doesn't have his good stuff back yet.
  5. Looks like Baker has given up a couple hits and one walk through 2 innings. How has his velocity been? Back in the 90's yet?
  6. I'm still taking Terry Ryan and Gardy at their word. Morneau has proven himself at 1B, he doesn't need many reps the next two weeks. He does need additional at-bats. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
  7. I remember a quote prior to the start of spring training, by Nishioka, something to the effect of "if I can't make it here I'll just go home". As I remember it at the time, the translator didn't come out and repeat those words, but when the tape was played later, that is en essence what he said. Do you think Nishi will really be willing to spend a whole season playing AAA ball? The guy has had a very rough 12 months. I'm sure he came to the US with really high hopes and the huge media coverage. then to play as poorly as he has and to throw in a divorce on top of that, he has to be about as low as I guy can get. Then again, I would be jumping for joy to be paid 3 million to spend the year playing AAA ball. Is there a chance that he will just walk away from his contract? I'm sure he is not happy with his current situation, and it has no chance of getting better for the next two years. Sometimes the decision isn't all about the money.
  8. FJ You were not right about Doyle. Yes, he was shelled today. Again. But we don't release him yet. I had hopped that he would have a good spring training, but it doesn't look good right now. Let games play out and we will see where were are at 2 or 3 weeks from now. Should we cut Carroll because he is 1-20 to start the spring? No, give him 2 to 3 weeks and see where we are at. Maybe Dozier is the better option, maybe not. The point is that there is no need to jump to rath conclusions about players. Don't make decisions about players until you have to. The time to evaluate Doyle is coming soon, but it isn't here yet.
  9. How many "A" games has Nishi Played? Is it just wishful thinking or are they really limiting his chances?
  10. Thanks Tim, appreciate the update, look forward to your additional posts.
  11. Baker really pitched well when he was healthy last year, I see him as most likely to finish the year with a winning record and 150 innings. Hopefully Pavano and Blackburn will just eat innings, while Liriano will be his usual self. I think Marquis will cruise along with a bunch of 6 and 7 inning starts giving 3 to 5 runs per outing (5.0+ ERA) until he is eventually replaced in the rotation. This club will finish within 5 game plus or minus of .500 for the year. Baker is the most likely to be the only starter with a winning record. I hope Frankie catches fire, but I just don't see it happening.
  12. Full season in Section 220. I no longer have kids in school and now that we have left the metrodome, I have turned my wife into a baseball fan. Between, my wife, son, friends and neighbors, I don't miss many games.
  13. I agree, I think we will really like Provus calling the games. I only heard a little as I was driving around at lunch today, but I already like his call. Now if only they will make Gladden stick to solely color responsibility. He is just painful to listen to.
  14. Jack I think you are missing the obivous, Span will play 120-140 games in Center. Revere will end up being part of a platoon in left. So every time we face a lefty starter, we will move span back over to Center? Span is the everyday starter in Center, he has proven himself. He is solid in the field and at the plate. They are close in the field, but as a hitter span is better in every category except steals. Depending on how well Revere performs at the plate, will determine the amount of his starts and at-bats. Doumit and Plouffe will both get starts in the outfield. I think Plouffe will end up playing as much or more than Ben in left, when it is all said and done.
  15. I already have my tickets for Cincinnati, they should be pretty good this year and reasonably priced tickets may turn out to be scare if they are in first place in June. Lots of great seats available for not much money in Pittsburgh. Two very nice stadiums, well within driving distance. Hopefully the Twins will still be playing good ball in June.
  16. What are you talking about, I loved the Scout and Fever Pitch!! The scene in Fever Pitch, where the season tickets arrive it a classic. I'm still waiting to run out in the snow barefoot to greet the mailman with my tickets. The first hour of the Scout is very funny, it did seem to drag on once they made it back to New York, but then again, I always thought that was just me hating the Yankees.
  17. I think Capps is going to surprise people this season. The saves will depend on how the team plays, but I have a feeling he is going to pitch well. He spent a year with Gardy and Rick, they know how dinged up he was last year. I'm sure they were part of the decision to bring him back. Nathan may end up with more saves, but I won't be surprised if Capps out pitches Nathan this year
  18. Zumaya was a great gamble. No downside if it doesn't pan out (which he didn't). Huge upside if it does pays off. $400K is peanuts when you are talking about a $100 million payroll team. If Zumaya had made 10 to 15 appearances by the all-star break with a with a WHIP of 1.2 or less and then he was forced out of action because of an injury everyone would be calling Terry a genius. He just bought half a season of relief for little to nothing. It just looks bad because he broke down while still in Spring Training (ok, early in spring training). Terry took a gamble on a number of pitchers that are highly motivated to make their mark or get back to the majors. If you invite 10 of those guys, you might hit the jackpot with 1 or 2. That is why we started with 33 pitchers this year. You hear it in every interview Terry Ryan has given this spring. He is giving players a chance, it is up to each of those players to take advantage of that chance? I think that was the real frustration from last year. We just didn't have the numbers, both in terms of position players and pitchers. We called guys up and when they didn't produce, there were no options. Players were on the major league roster by default. We didn't have the option of sending them down and calling someone else up and give them a chance.
  19. I hope it turns out to be nothing. But honestly, with his track record it almost seems like it is just a matter of when rather than if.
  20. Hey Joe, I can juggle the same number of balls you can hit out of Target Field in a season.
  21. Learning to Juggle, one ball at a time.
  22. Nice start Tony, I'm really looking forward to your blog.
  23. Thanks for the offer. I have my son sold on a trip to Beloit when the Twins are out of town in may. I have a feeling some of those prospects will get a promotion before the summer is over, so it is best to catch them early in the season.
  24. I voted Tigers, but like everyone else. They are not a lock. Injuries, questionable defense are among many things that would bring them back to the pack. 88 games wins the division in 2012. who can get there?
