  1. Hey Seth, I take it that Doumit will be catching today and that we aren't starting two in RF.
  2. The pitching hasn't been good. The fielding hasn't been good. The hitting has been the worst of all. We are only two games in, things will get better. The problem is that we are in the midst of the 3 easiest games of the first 19. I thought we had a chance of being 10-9 when KC rolled into town on Apirl 27th. At this point 5-14 might be a pipe dream. If we can't win one against Baltimore, what is going to happen with the Angels, Rangers, Yankees, Ray and the Red Sox all come to town? There really isn't a break in this April schedule.
  3. Are the odds any better we will need some quality innings tomorrow?
  4. 3 straight hits, granted they are all singles. Now it's time for a bomb. OH Yeah, we have carroll up, maybe another single and then the bomb.
  5. What does our lineup look like tomorrow? Mauer at first? doumit catching? Do we give Lexi the day off and give Hughes a shot?
  6. Maybe the Orioles pitching is much improved and we are just running into great pitching????????
  7. I am taking a baseball trip this summer and we will be seeing the twins play in both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, is it worth a side trip to Louisville? It is just me and my out-of-college son going on this trip so no little kids. We will be in Cincinnati for the Friday night game and the Saturday game doesn't start until 4:00pm. It is an option for us to get up early Saturday morning, drive the 100 miles to Louisville and then get back to Cincinnati by 2:00pm when the gates open, but is it worth it? We have traveled a lot and have been to Louisville twice before, but we have never taken the time to actually stop and see the museum. I'm interest in the comments of anyone that has been there, is it just a giant gift shop or an interesting place to visit?
  8. A major league outfielder has to make that catch. I like the idea of getting Doumit's bat in the lineup, but the trade off is what we all saw yesterday. We can't afford to give away runs. Small sample size, but I think we are just seeing the beginning of what will become all to common this year. Why didn't the Pirates try and retain him? His defense isn't good enough at any one position to stay in the lineup, and now with no DH spot open we are in the same boat the Pirates were in when trying to find bats for him.
  9. I wouldn't say Hughes is significantly better defensively at 2B than Plouffe, if fact I would say the exact opposite. Plouffe is/has been an above average SS at times. His problem has been the ability to throw the ball from SS to 1B consistantly. Plouffe is quicker, has more range and has a stronger arm than Hughes, it is yet to been seen whether Plouffe's throwing problems with follow him around the diamond. I like Hughes, I would have preferred to see Hughes first off the bench instead of burroughs. We could have left Hughes in the game at 2B and not have been forced to make a defensive substitution at that time. As it was, with Borroughs taking the at bat, Gardy was forced to put someone else in at second. It would have been better to save both Plouffe and Borroughs for another spot. Then again, they don't pay me to manage. Maybe borroughs looked better in BP. Maybe Luke hasn't looked so good since they left camp?
  10. Unlike yesterday, I think we will see lots of runs scored today. Like the rest of the season, the question will be "can we score enough runs to overcome our inconsistant pitching"?
  11. Joe Mauer, making 2011 a distant memory
  12. If the twins can hang around in the central throughout the summer, Drew would be a great September callup. He is a great late inning defensive replacement. We just have to make sure we aren't in a position to rely on his hitting.
  13. NL East----Atlanta NL Central-Cincinnati NL West---Arizona WC St. Louis WC San Francisco AL East----Tampa BAy AL Central-Detroit AL West--LA Angeles WC Texas WC Boston That's right, no Yankees and no Phillies. Tampa has the best pitching and they always find a way to win.
  14. This is not a low traffic gate. Everyone coming in gate 6 and heading up the escalators on the 3rd basline passed by that gate. With the wind blowing from the west, it would get awful smokey in that area of the park. Also after the game, everyone would be forced to walk along the smoking area as they waited for the light rail. I'm surprised that they allowed smoking there for the past two years.
  15. Thanks for the post. It's not possible for all of us to get to these events, so the rest of us really appreciate your insight. Keep the information coming as the season progresses.
  16. Marquis was a free agent just a few months ago when we signed him. What has happended since then would allow him to sign a better deal with another team? He will go to Rochester make a few starts, be closer to his daughter. Its a good situation for him and a good situation for the Twins. These are people that talk to one another, I'm sure they brought it up to him and I doubt that he will have a problem with it. If he does, then you look at other options.
  17. I like Gardy as a manager, but I still have frustrations. He tends to give all of the starters the same day off. A day game after a night game has turned into "starters take the day off game". I wish he would plan things out better. Rest Mauer one day, Span the next etc. Instead of his current rotation of sitting everyone the same game.
  18. Realistically, how long will it take Marquis to get back in pitching shape once he returns to baseball. I realize that it has been reported that he has continued to throw, but common sense would say he is currently weeks away from being able to throw in a game. I have been through similar things in my life and honestly everything shuts down. I can imagine he life has turned into eating sleeping and sitting next to a hospital bed. Even if he does get away from the hospital occasionally, that is not exactly ideal preparation for facing major league hitters. Is he just throwing to a relative in a local park? I think we could see Liam Hendriks for an extended period of time. I would not be surprised to see Marquis pitch two to three weeks some where prior to joining the Twins. Add this to the fact that I don't think anyone is going to be in a hurry to rush him back.
  19. I'm with Shane, I hope that Parmelee has a great year, but I think he will see some bumps in the road and will end up splitting a lot of time with Justin, Joe and a host of others at first. I think that Carroll will have a nice year for us to the point that Carroll will have a higher average with the Twins than Dozier will have with the Red Wings. We don't have to bring up extra base hits because that won't really be a contest. I think we will all like Carroll at short after having witnessed what went on last year at that position. He will be a solid consistent glove and provide a nice bat behind Span at the top of the lineup.
  20. I really don't have a problem with the roster, but did Burroughs outplay Dinkleman this spring? Burroughs had two extra base hits all spring. 2 doubles. Dinkleman had a homer and 5 doubles. I think Dinkleman is more versatile in the field. Honestly I haven't seen either play much so far this spring, but just looking at the numbers it doesn't appear that this was the slam dunk for Burroughs as everyone has talked about. Don't get me wrong, it's a great comeback story and I'm happy for the guy, but are we a better team with him on the roster rather than Dinkleman?
  21. I think Parmelee is the lock and It has been said several times that Dozier will start the season at Rochester. That leaves one spot left on the roster for Burroughs and Dinkleman. I don't have a feeling one way or the other for either one of them. I think Dinkleman has put up the better numbers this spring and is a little more veristle in the field. I don't think either one will have much of an impact. I was actually keeping my eye on Holliman. We will know fairly soon.
  22. If Lexi goes down in the first couple of weeks, I think they give the 2B job to Luke. As it is, I think he will see a lot of playing time there the first couple of months of the season. If he continues to play well, he may get more time. Luke plays when Lexi has a day off and again whenever Lexi slides over to short to cover an off day. I don't think we will see Dozier until September. Now if Carroll goes down or doesn't preform to the level they expect either hitting or in the field, Dozier is on the next flight to Minnesota.
  23. I agree, no one would be willing to take Morneau at this point. If he plays well for a month or two, then things will get interesting. This will be especially true if we have already fallen behind the Tigers and he has not played any games at 1b for us. There would be a lot of interest for a .300 hitting 30+ HR DH form someones playoff push.
