  1. This is not true. Hughes is the only player signed through 2019. Santana is signed through 2018 (2019 option) Nolasco through 2017 (2018 Option) Milone, Pelfrey and Gibson are only signed through 2015 (Gibson is a serf and won't enter arbitration until 2017)
  2. I think it is a stretch to believe that they will turn over half the roster within 1/2 year. Here is my take: I agree that many of the relievers will be on a short leash (Boyer, Stauffer, Duensing and Graham). If they don't perform early they may be released (or in Graham's case either sent back to Atlanta or traded and sent down). Outfield: Only Rosario or Hicks will be up before September. Buxton will probably be a 9/1 call up. Infield: The only change will be Pinto until September. Starting Rotation: In my mind, Hughes, Santana and Nolasco are untradeable due to the lengths of their contracts. Gibson has the potential to be a top end starter if he gets some more consistency. So that leaves Milone as the only tradeable asset to make room for May.
  3. Actually, as of today the record is 1-4-1 so if the Twins win the next 3 the series will end in a 4-4-1 tie.
  4. I think it depends on the situation. If one of the starting 5 is injured and goes on the DL, I agree that it will be somebody from Rochester. On the other hand, if for some reason they need to skip a guy (sickness or can't get loose) then it will be Pelfrey.
  5. FYI, that $21.3M is NOT profit. It is labeled as Operating Income and if you look at the footnote it says: Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.
  6. That's the trick, giving the "regulars" enough time off to keep them "fresh" and giving the "bench" players enough ABs to keep them from getting "rusty".
  7. I'll throw out another bit of information regarding the lack of data. I believe that some (many) of the ST facilities don't have Radar guns. IIRC, Hammond stadium is one such place that doesn't utilize a radar gun.
  8. Yes, if a player on the 40-man roster gets hurt while at the MLB camp (i.e. before being optioned) he can't be optioned until he is healthy. So if he is out for the year he would accrue ML service time as well as a rookie salary for a year. For example, if Sano would've been on the 40-man roster last year, the Twins would've been forced to place him on the the 60 day DL and he would've accrued 1 year of service time and been paid the MLB minimum salary.
  9. Too bad there isn't any audio feed today.
  10. I believe that it is 3 or 4 and the rule is regulars from last year or planned regulars for this year. Technically they do have 3 "regulars" in the lineup (Hicks, Escobar and Vargas). Fryer could be counted as well since he was with the club most of last year even though he is a bench player.
  11. Yes Detroit is intent on winning as Illitch is desperate to win a world series title before he dies. And by the looks of him he could go anytime. Detroit is also losing $20-30M/year and has for the last few years.
  12. I agree that since Pelfrey is in the last year of his contract, being released is a possibility. But I think that they will try to make a go of it before that happens.
  13. I agree 100%. I also agree with what others have said regarding having Pelfrey pitch out of the pen in ST, to see how long it takes him to get loose.
  14. Not to nitpick, but the GM makes the personnel decisions for all 30 teams, not just the Twins. Some teams may be more willing to dump a player regardless of the sunk cost, but the Twins' generally aren't one of them. All Molitor can do is go to Ryan and say these are the 25 guys that I want to take north, Ryan has always had final say.
  15. My seats never see the sun. the are located on the 1st base side upper deck. Being that Minnesota is so far north of the equator, the sun will always be in the southern sky. The first base side of the stadium faces south so the sun will always be at your back.
  16. This is fairly common. Garza didn't learn any other pitches until he reached AAA or the majors. Sometimes having an dominant fastball can be a detriment as they have a tendancy to rely on it in the minors where a secondary and tertiary pitch is unnecessary.
  17. If you look at the list of retired #'s, other than Hrbek (hometown hero) and Kelly (Manager) all the rest are either in the HOF or had HOF worthy careers and played most of their career in MN. If they stick with that methodology, Mauer will be the next retired number. Hunter, Santana and Morneau may make the Twin's HOF, but didn't have careers significant enough to warrant having their numbers retired.
  18. I very rarely leave early. When I do it is usually weather related and the Twins are getting blown out. I remember 1 game (back in the Dome days), it was July 3rd against Detroit. Twins were down something like 7-2. My dad was having a party the next day so I wanted to get home kind of early. I was sitting there and thinking if the Twins don't show some life soon we are leaving. Twins ended up winning in 18 innings and I stayed until the end. The game started at 6 and I think I got home at 1.
  19. If you are going to use a firearm for home defense, it must be ready for use (i.e. loaded) and accessible. But you also have to prevent against accidental discharge by mishandling by children. The way to do this is through education and to remove the curiosity factor regarding the gun. Don't just hide the gun and expect you child not to find it. Show him or her where it is and explain that it is NOT a toy and that he or she can't touch it without parental permission/supervision. Let them know if they have any questions they can ask anytime. That being said you are well within your rights to not allow your child to play at the house. Or you discuss with the parents that to allow you child to play at their house, the guns must be locked up.
  20. Do you know what the definition of Militia is/was at the time the Constitution was written? It has nothing to do with National Guard or Army Reserve. Militia was defined as all able bodied men between 18 and 45. Which means it was all civilians (actually white men).
  21. If you are a fan or a collector then it would be a good idea to be able to tell who's autograph is who's.
  22. The empty chamber on a revolver has no benefit for modern revolvers. That only applies for older revolvers where the firing pin is actually part of the hammer to prevent an accidental discharge if the hammer releases accidently (ie bumped or dropped). Also many semi-automatics don't have manual safeties as well. I own 4 hand guns (1 revolver and 3 semi-autos), only 1 of the 4 has a manual safety (1911 Variant). Glocks and XDs don't have a manual safety as well as many other guns (especially in the micro compact variety).
  23. Harmon was a stickler regarding autographs. He felt that if you are going to take the time to sign something for a fan, your signature should be legible. Morneau worked on his signature to make it legible due to Killebrew's influence. This is one thing that is going to be sorely missed due to his passing.
  24. Yes! They offered arbitration to all 6 eligible players.
