  1. I think a sale could be really good, but could also be devastating. How long after he bought the North Stars did it take Norm Green to move the team? Three years? I know the Twins' nice stadium is good insurance, but I'm still a little nervous.
  2. You could tell how honored he felt to be there, and by the amount of fans who made it despite the travel issues on Friday.
  3. I made it for the induction. Was very surprised by the order the inductees went in. Joe's entire speech was just thanking other people. By the time he got around to thanking his in-laws I burst out laughing. The Joe Mauer-ness of it all. One thing that stood out pretty clearly to me: Rod Carew is NOT doing well. He barely made it to his seat, the closest to the entry on stage, with a cane and Tony had to help him. I'm hoping it's just a temporary thing but I don't feel confident about that. Prayers to Rodney.
  4. Err.... make that a 17 hour drive to New York. But we made it.
  5. Flying to New York tomorrow morning!!!!
  6. Congrats to Joseph Patrick Mauer. Who is going to New York? (My very sincere apologies if a thread has already been made, I tried searching but couldn't find one. If there is another one please direct me.) I'm trying to find info about the ceremony. I'd like to bring a lot of water to give away, but I'm not sure it's even allowed. The HOF website isn't very particular. Looking for more info from people who have been there recently. I made my arrangements as far as transportation and lodging before the actual announcement, I'm just wondering more about stuff on the actual day. Anyone else going? I'll bring water!!!!
  7. I will never forget you, Stu. Thank you.
  8. Who do you think will introduce Joe Mauer on induction day? I'm kinda pulling for LNP.
  9. I have never been more proud of something I had so little to do with. Congrats Joe. Watching your whole career has been one of my greatest pleasures. I started crying half way through the Beltre announcement. Thinking of my biggest Joe memories is hard for a lot of reasons, because everything seems to much together in my head, and I tend to think of him as his whole career/person. But thew few acute memories that come to mind: The time he played right field in 2011. When he took that super borderline pitch in Boston and then hit the next one for a 3 run HR in the top of the 9th. I forget what year, but that whole at bat was insane. When he stopped a news conference about his knees to tell Sid his tape recorder stopped. Good times. Tickets are bought and hotel rooms are reserved. See you there buddy.
  10. I'm extremely happy to hear Provus will be taking over. I'm a little bit more confused about where this blackout restriction is coming from. Did their contracts with Bally end? I guess that would make sense in Bally is going belly up.
  11. Love ya Stu. Remind me of the time I stayed up all night to write this: https://www.twinkietown.com/2017/5/6/14878698/top-ten-reasons-why-joe-mauer-sucks-minnesota-twins-mlb
  12. My boyfriend actually told me I should write a "Twins should sign Manny Machado" post earlier tonight as a joke... :/
  13. I'm not surprised MLB made this decision, given the length of time since the incident and lack of evidence that could provide them an objective justification for a suspension. I still believe the accuser, but I'm not surprised at the outcome. It's... whatever. What makes me more mad is people thinking this exonerates Miguel Sano somehow, or that this proves the accuser lied. It does not at all.
  14. myjah here from Twinkie Town... just going to say I struggle with this exact problem myself over at TT. The biggest problem is just that, frankly, there aren't a whole lot of great, prolific writers who want to keep writing for little to nothing into perpetuity. I end up spending an immense amount of time trying to help my writers (which, honestly, is something I have a lot of experience in and LOVE doing), but I only have so much time in my life. I wish I could do this as my full time job, but instead I get paid pennies on the hour to write the majority of articles, train all of the writers, edit all the posts, help come up with ideas and direction, maximize the SEO, talk to management at VOX (because I also have people above me to answer to in all this, yikes), try to recruit new writers, read and promote FanPosts, respond to inquiries, moderate a lot of the posts, etc. etc. in the little free time I have. I have a handful of writers I absolute cherish, but as far as management... no one wants to take on that responsibility for like the measly $20 a month I can offer, and I don't blame them. So I have to do it myself, and there are lots of areas I'm lacking. I know not everyone here is a fan of TT either, which is perfectly fine and expected. Our site and community is a little different than here, with some overlap. I purposefully try to make it more humorous, as it's always been sort of the Twinkie Town brand (and to whoever said it before: I didn't get to name the site and don't have a choice in re-naming it, so, welp). I guess my main point is -- there is no silver arrow to this stuff. It's really, really, really hard to find good, willing writers who want to help build your site and wait for the payout. It's really, really, really hard to give the consistent feedback required to help grow good writers. I think Twins Daily has been doing great, personally, most likely better than me. Don't be so hard on yourself, John!
  15. As others have pointed out, Johan Santana lacks the signature post-season moments that make Koufax and Puckett so memorable. I wouldn't mind if Johan made the HOF, and as much as I love him, I don't think he'll be elected.
  16. Some observations: I read a rumor somewhere (can't remember exactly where) that Ohtani would actually prefer to be the only Japanese star on his team. That stuck out to me because it seems to go against common assumptions. The Yankees have less flexibility at DH than the Twins, so I think that is one area where the Twins have the upper hand over the Yankees (and it seems like a particularly important thing to Ohtani).
