  1. I would call that more Parker Hageman-esque, though our good looks can lead to confusion.
  2. There really hasn't been much to follow. Since being shut down, he's been checked once and the team thought it was showing progress, he'd go on a throwing program in the DR and they'd check him again this month. Of course, TR isn't going to rule out surgery until he's given a clean bill of health. The real news will be after his next check up.
  3. Updated to include Pelfrey's incentives (courtesty of Mike Berardino at the Pioneer Press).
  4. I started to keep a minor-league transaction log on January 1st of 2013, but it got to be so long that I stopped doing because I figured it would tie up a dozen (at a minimum) pages in the book. Is that something that people would be interested in? Or maybe simply lists of All-Stars and/or League Players of the Week?
  5. I hear you with the mistakes. We'll get better. Unlike last year, we really wanted to have the book available by Christmas, which sped up the process.
  6. I like the ideas. I know in one of the first editions (or maybe the first edition?), Seth had the prospect ranking right with the player capsule. Maybe the three of us will have to put together a Top 50 together (in addition to our own lists). I think that would be fun. Rating tools would be hard, but if you're familiar with BA's prospect handbook, they give an overall 20-80 score with the risk factor. For example, Thorpe would probably be 65 extreme, Stewart would be 70 high and Meyer would be 65 medium. Basically ceilings and floors. When they added that, I enjoyed their book even more.
  7. I'd love to hear if there are other things that people would like included. We pretty much kept it status quo as far as information we included, though we did break up the bios differently. Is there something we missed?
  8. Parks also tweeted that five of top seven were SSs (with Buxton and Tavares), so Sano is, at best eight, probably more in the 10-12 range. Not that it pertains exactly, but interesting.
  9. I haven't heard that. In my district in Wisconsin, sub pay is $85 or $90, and if subs got health insurance they literally would have to pay in, not get paid. $63 seems terribly low either way. Less than $8/hour?
  10. When you DFA someone you have a 10-day window to remove the player from the roster, the first seven generally to work out a trade before placing on the 72-hour waivers. You can skip the trade window, if you want, and place a player on outright waivers immediately, which I'm sure is what the Twins did here. You don't always know a player was placed on waivers until they're claimed, while you do typically hear that a player is DFA'd right away.
  11. Berardino is reporting that Mastro signed a split-contract last month. This should also help explain how Fryer's spot isn't 100% secured.
  12. He'll still only be a phone call away (as of now). Ideally, the 4th OF can play CF, but they went a long time last year without doing that (and I think many of us wondered about it). I still think Mastro competes for that 4th OF/CF job in Spring Training, the pitching log-jam will have to work itself out and that will create roster spaces when the 25-man has to be set. As much as I like Mastro (and I really do), you can find a spare-part OF just like him at almost any time on the waiver wire.
  13. That fact that the press release says he was outrighted means he already cleared waivers. This appears to be his first outright assignment, so he shouldn't be able to refuse it (and become a free agent) as far as I know.
  14. With the Twins making the signings of Pelfrey and Suzuki official, they've also announced that Darin Mastroianni has been outrighted to AAA. This shouldn't come as a huge shocker; Mastro should remain in the organization and get a NRI to Spring Training.
  15. Kubel qualifies as an Article XX( signing (a major league FA signing a minor league deal). If Kubel fails to make the major league roster out of spring training and accepts a Rochester assignment, he'll automatically be given a $100K "retention bonus" and be eligible for a 6/1 opt-out.
  16. I posted in another thread that I believe he has to clear waivers before his rights are sold, but once a deal is worked out, teams have an unwritten agreement to not claim those guys.
  17. Good point, especially since there aren't going to be many big jumps in salary either. Casey Fien will be a Super-2, but no other regulars should enter arbitration. (Dozier should fall short, I'm not considering Diamond or Worley "regulars".) The likelihood, too, is that next year Buxton and Sano combined will make about half of what Plouffe does this year. Meyer too. That makes 2015-2017 a window where you have premium (hopefully) players at the minimum. By the time they need to be paid big money, Mauer's contract is off the books. (Though at the current rate, elite players will be making about $50m a year by then.)
  18. If they get a million, I'll subtract it from the bottom... same as if they got money back in a trade.
  19. Updated to included to addition of Suzuki. Both the Pelfrey and Suzuki signings are unofficial.
  20. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe a player has to clear waivers (if under team control) to be sold internationally. I also believe that there is a gentleman's agreement between the MLB teams that if you have a deal in place to sell a player, that other teams won't claim him. Regardless, once you sell a player's rights, you have no ties to him if he ever chooses to return. My take: If it comes to the point where the Twins are looking to sell him, he'll at least want to explore his opportunities here first (i.e. - be placed on waivers and if he cleared, then be sold).
  21. It sounds like the the focus is on about 12-15 guys right now. Obviously that will change over time. Since there is a lot of chatter on here already, I'm going to try to gather some more information and maybe put out a really early draft board sometime over my Christmas break.
  22. Yeah. The former scout is Hector Otero who left to take job with an agency down there. Lots more about that in the interview.
  23. 13 was his first optional assignment, so he's got this coming year amd next yet before he has to stick.
  24. Good question... Gibson will be in the rotation as soon as he wins a spot (or someone gets injured). The likelihood is that he's going to start the season in Rochester and, unless someone clears waivers, be the first guy up. So... May/June. Meyer... for some reason, I feel like he'll be the first of the wave to make the Show. So I'm going to go with July. I could see it be later... but if this team is anywhere near contention (and I'm not saying they will be), Meyer will be up and helping. May: He's tough because he could be a starter or a reliever. I think September call-up, but potentially earlier if he shifts to the bullpen. Opening Day of 2015 (if a reliever), summer of '15 if he's still a starter. Gilmartin: 2015 (as needed), but can't see the Twins adding him to 40-man roster during season to start when he's going to be 9th or 10th at best in the pecking order. Baxendale in the same relative boat. Eades: No where close until he can at least pitch in AA. Of course, all of this is best (yet fun) guess.
  25. I'd put Gilmartin a little further back (probably near the back-half of the twenties), but I think it's universally accepted that I value upside far more than readiness (or near-readiness).
