  1. Huh. Weird. I'll get him added tomorrow.
  2. The Twins, Red Wings and Kernels rosters are up-to-date. One crazy factoid: If you look at the projected starters (position players) at FM and CR, you'll notice that Fort Myers is younger at almost every position. C - Turner younger than Garver 1B - Hicks younger than Haar 2B - Polanco younger than Vavra SS - Goodrum younger than Walker (though Vielma is there now) 3B - Harrison younger than Christensen OF - Of the projected six (Williams/Walker/Kepler and Larson/Granite/Pineda), Pineda is the oldest. Kepler is the 2nd youngest (Larson youngest).
  3. Be patient with us tonight. We're a little behind schedule, but we'll be getting started real shortly.
  4. You can view the page at http://www.twinsdaily.com/content.php/2779-Twins-Hangouts-Tuesday-March-25
  5. Join Seth and I tonight as we talk about the latest developments in Twins Territory. Tonight's episode is brought to you by the Talk2Contact podcast. Yeah, those guys! We're less than a week from Opening Day, so we will have plenty to talk about. We also welcome any and all questions that you may have. Feel free to answer them here, or on Twitter, or live during the show. NOTE THE TIME CHANGE: We'll be pushing back the start time to 9pm, which will be our "regular-season-so-the-minor-league-games-are-finished-start-time." Cool? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLbYsQnK3B8 [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] You can view tonight's episode .If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below.
  6. When I have a chance to change it, Kubel will be added to the payroll. That will increase the payroll about $1.5m (Kubel's $2m minus a near minimum player) putting it in the $84m range.
  7. I'll second that opinion to the fullest.
  8. I'd concur on the pitching part of this. I'm going to differ slightly on the hitters. Unfortunately, I think Kubel is in. I think right now there are three spots still being fought for. 1) Presley appears safe, but I'm not going to lock him in. Hicks should just play every day anyway. If he gets hurt, Mastroianni can be up for the next game. One of Escobar and possibly Bartlett and Parmelee - as bad as it sounds - could retrieve fly balls from the warning track for the rest of a game. 2) I'm starting to waver on if Arcia is the Opening Day guy. It might just be Kubel. That could possibly leave Colabello as a RH bench bat, which is so sorely needed. Right now, I have 3 spots for Colabello, Arcia, Presley, Parmelee and Bartlett. With a giant "WHO KNOWS?" as my disclaimer.
  9. Hasn't. Speculation that tomorrow is day for both groups to shrink.
  10. I was asked same question on Twitter. The only hole he'd help fill is adding a RH bench bat. But he doesn't offer much of anything Colabello doesn't already. He'd need to be serviceable enough in CF to be a 4th OF. He's not.
  11. If I remember correctly, Renaudo had an arm injury late in the season.
  12. It's really crazy to see Rodon pitching as not great/poor by expectation's standards as he has been. This is a kid that was nearly unhittable for two seasons. You worry that there might be an injury involved. I could certainly see him betting on himself if he drops in the draft, but at the same time, I would mortgage the rest of my draft to have a shot at him. He's not far from the majors. He might not have the ceiling that Kershaw does (or the guys in the draft that are getting that comp ceiling), but you can't dispute what he's done over the last two seasons and in his time with the National team. Draft the kid. Sign the kid. Give him a break. And pray to God that you're not getting another Matt Purke.
  13. I see Rodon this yeat becoming the Mark Appel of two years ago. I really hope the Twins get a shot at him.
  14. According to Mike Berardino, he was placed on waivers Wednesday and will either clear or be claimed today.
  15. Keith Law Insider piece - MLB Draft Top 50 Some notes: Aiken (1), Rodon (3) and Hoffman (6) have all moved based on early spring results. Weaver is at #11. Gatewood (19) and Turner (20) lower than expected. The Twins like Mac Marshall, and he's listed at 38.
  16. The Payroll part of the R&P will be undergoing some changes in the near future. Long story short, I had an email convo with A-GM Rob Antony today about buyouts. Apparently how they are explained in the CBA is NOT how they are actually handled by the Twins. I'm not sure if the pro-ration of the buyouts are used for luxury tax (RA says no), but the explanation of having them pro-rated in the CBA doesn't apply for how the Twins do their payroll (or cut their checks). The buyout would be paid in one lump sum at the conclusion of the baseball season. That remains in line with what was said about Nathan's buyout ("it was on last year's books"), but is different than how I understood them to work. I'll have to retrain my thinking. I'm still at a loss for why they are explained the way they are in the CBA, but for now, I'm going to believe the guy that actually negotiates the contracts with the players and their reps. No one knows this stuff better than him. My apologies for misinforming you. But I blame Phil Miller (for asking RA) and Seth (for talking to Phil).
  17. Gonsalves tweeted about Aiken throwing harder just a week or so ago. So I'd assume they got along ok.
  18. Just did some checking on Aiken. Rumors before he was between 94-97. According to source, he's hit 97 one time and he's not morphing into that type of pitcher. Source says Aiken has up'd the ante though. He goes to the same school that Gonsalves came from, so that should be worth something. At the least, this should add one more "premium" name to the top of the draft. Same source has told me before Jackson and Gatewood would be Top 10. Says Aiken will go in the 1st round. Also "Keith Law has been wrong before." In the end, I don't think that Aiken is super highly regarded by the Twins just yet. Of course, the opinion of him will change a number of times in the next 80ish days.
  19. I'd probably have him in the high teens myself. So five would be early, yes. But he's been impressive so far and his stock is definitely going up. A stock that was already higher for the Twins than most. Personally, I think we're squeezing the really good, but not elite college pitchers just because this draft is shaping up to be so deep. Guys like Weaver and Nola (for example) are guys that may end up not being Top 10 picks this year, but would be in almost every other year. Of course, it's a lloooonnnngggg way until June.
  20. Huge success on the summer circuit, advanced bat for his age (which people aren't touting as much right now), plus arm and giftedness to remain behind the plate long-term. He's in discussion at #5 (as is Gatewood). As of a month ago, none of the other guys you mentioned were. And the list of guys was somewhere in the 17-20 range.
  21. The comps on him from the Twins perspective right now are Zack Greinke and (a much shorter version of) Jered Weaver. I was surprised when I heard it too, but doing things like outdueling Carlos Rodon certainly aren't going to hurt. I heard some reports earlier that he was showing mid-90s gas, but I don't think he's been doing it lately. I think that will be the one that tips the scale one way or the other, not his breaking ball.
