  1. The Twins added Edgar Ibarra to the 40-man roster today. They also signed Wilkin Ramirez to a minor-league deal with a ST invite. Ramirez joins Bernier, Romero, Mitchell, Rohlfing, Oliveros and Thompson as non-roster invites.
  2. Referenced tweet, for the record. I'm assuming that he'll be an NRI, but I wasn't suggesting this means Duensing is out of a job now. @jeremynygaard: .@skaro21 @SethTweets @MattEddyBA Thompson could compete for Duensing's job; Rohlfing good catching depth.
  3. I wouldn't dispute any of that. But I think Diamond and Albers and Dean will get every opportunity to be rotation guys. Hernandez is probably gone. That leaves Duensing and Thielbar with little actual competition. Thompson get a chance to compete, which is never bad, even if the competition is.
  4. The "depth" of the 2014 draft is being over-stated. Last year the top tier was 3-4 guys, followed by 8-9 guys, followed by about 30 other guys that could be first rounders. Obviously it's early, but right now that top tier is looking deeper (maybe 7-8 guys) followed by a dozen or so guys, followed by very few guys that are getting first round grades. If there is an offseason preceding a draft where I would advocate burning a 2nd round pick to sign a FA - based solely on early reports - it would be this one.
  5. In the newest installment of minor-league transactions, the Twins have re-signed both LHRP Aaron Thompson and C Dan Rohlfing. All changes shown here.
  6. I've talked to Brock and, for now, the sidebar has to stay. The next time the site undergoes sweeping changes (which he thinks will be during next season), the sidebar will go. If you can deal with the scrolling, I've got a present for you - on the far right side (and it's currently only with the MLB guys) I've added a new column - Agents.
  7. You can. You can't make a QO to players that are traded during the season. Napoli, for example, will get a QO coming off a 1-year deal.
  8. I'd like to see the Twins offer a Pelfrey-ish contract. Obviously more money, but incentives that could earn him up to $12, 13, 14m. If he's right - and reaches those incentives - you turn around and make him a QO. (Wow. I typed out my comment and noticed I hadn't submitted it... lots of similar thinkers late in the morning.)
  9. In the same infield as Goodrum, Polanco will play 2B. Goodrum has better range and a cannon. (Goodrum led the minors in PO/G.) I think Polanco could probably be a serviceable SS in the minors, but would be much better suited at 2B. Polanco played SS this year while Goodrum was concussed and committed the same amount of errors at SS and 2B with 60 more chances at 2B. I get the impression that he could look really good at 2B and look overmatched at SS (in a very Brian Dozieran sort of way). At any rate, it's going to be interesting to see what happens with Polanco if he continues to improve.
  10. He's also a likely free agent, so I shouldn't have included him.

  12. You may have seen Cody’s update earlier today on how the Twins prospects have done while playing in Arizona so far this fall. There are some other leagues underway in the warmer parts of the world and here’s an update on those players. This only includes players that are under contract to the team. Expected minor-league free agents are not included. *Stats through 10/28, in order of #Impressiveness Dominican Winter League: Jorge Polanco: 7 G, 11-for-28, 7 R, 3 2B, HR, 5 BB, 3 K, 2 SB, .393/.438/.607 [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] Jorge Polanco has had a very positive start to his winter. If Polanco follows the same development path as Eddie Rosario, we could see him competing for a spot sometime in 2014. While the debate has been if Rosario or Brian Dozier should be considered the 2B of the future, Polanco should definitely be a part of that discussion. www.sbnation.com Miguel Sano: 2 G, 1-for-5, R, 4 BB, 2 K, SB, .200/.556/.200 Miguel Sano had two throwing errors in two games before being shut down with elbow discomfort. Virgil Vasquez: 4 G, 4 GS (0-1), 18.2 IP, 21 H, 9 R, 8 ER (3.86 ERA), 4 HR, 2 BB, 17 K, 1.23 WHIP, .280 BAA Dakota Watts: 6 G (2-1), 7 IP, 7 H, 2 ER (2.57 ERA), 3 BB, 2 K, 1.43 WHIP, .259 BAA Cole DeVries: 3 G, 2 GS, 7.1 IP, 13 H, 7 ER (8.59 ERA), 4 BB, 8 K, 2.32 WHIP, .371 BAA
  13. He might not be Trout, but he's close. I would be really surprised if he - unless he gets injured or starts impersonating Aaron Hicks - doesn't make his MLB debut this summer before becoming THE GUY early in 2015.. (If Hicks has a great start, that might be another exception to bringing Buxton up.)
  14. He dealt with a tired elbow during this season too. I'm guessing it's just being cautious, but, yeah, you can never be happy to hear about an elbow issue. If it persists, I would expect the move across the diamond happens, though that would be low on the Twins Christmas list.
  15. Updated to include Paul Molitor and the recently-signed minor leaguers.
  16. Of the three, I found the Jairo Rodriguez return the most surprising. Rodriguez was basically used as an organizational-float and I thought he was on borrowed time the whole second-half of the season. Rodriguez will compete for 1B at-bats in Rochester. Parmelee and Colabello and Vargas and Hicks sandwiched him last year and they'll likely do the same this year. Without much 1B-depth (not that it would be tough to add) at the lower levels too, it makes sense to bring him back. Romero really improved his standing within the organization after this past year. I would guess he got a ST invite (I bet the others did too) and will be Plouffe's competition. This also will make Sano earn his eventual assignment to Rochester, which also makes sense.
  17. I think there's a difference between having Molitor on your staff as a lame-duck manager and having Molitor on your staff after being given a two-year extension. I know there really isn't a difference, but I would view this as a much less threatening move if I was Gardy than I would have last year.
  18. If Rodon's left arm is attached and he's available to the Twins, I take him.
  19. Right or wrong, Twins were never very interested.
  20. When I think "lottery tickets" as major league free agents, I typically think of guys where you're getting what you pay for... with a chance of getting something much better. (Liriano has been referred to as a lottery ticket this year.) Someone will pay him like a #4 (and I think 3/21 is reasonable, given his age) and hope that he can return to his 2010 form where he could be a front-end guy. Like I said before, a lot will depend on how he performs when he pitches for teams. If the velo is still down and there isn't a team that feels good about his medicals, he'll get less.
  21. The team is gonna go watch him. Nowhere did anyone suggest he's a "top target". What I posted was one guy's view, and the perception that I get is that he's simply a pitcher that's on the radar (along with many others). My best guess is that some other team will like him more. And people will complain the team was too cheap to get him.
