  1. New Top 20 prospect list=raging boner. Pretty solid list. I disagree with Benson being where he is, but I'd say the general concensus this Spring will have him around the 10 range. He still has the tools but I just don't think he will make it to the bigs...plus he has to be around 25-26 by now doesn't he?
  2. Who says you have to commit 3 years to Baker? No one, that is what we are trying to say...Thyroid broke the story, before the story happened, and we are saying debating whether or not this is a good idea committing 3 years to him (which is what Thyroid Gland broke on his twitter account).
  3. This is what I thought at first. I thought, well three years is good because he will be grossly underpaid if he performs like he has in the past. But then, I starting thinking about it more. Coming of injury you never know what you are going to get. It is a gamble. If he doesn't come back the same and/or gets hurt again, then the Twins have made a bad gamble and that is dead money on the books...(Blackburn).
  4. I have been searching the internet high and wide for this story. I have seen it no place other than twitter. What happened to the days where news broke after it happened, not before. I agree that their is a small chance the Twins will give him three years off the bat. My guess is one year, plus team options for year 2 and 3. That would make more sense. But to have it done the day after the baseball classic is very iffy. When can the guy even start throwing?
  5. other than this, I don't know but it is a fact... I tried citing myself when I wrote a paper once. It turns out that I would have been better off citing Wikipedia (which currently has the Twins declining his option, but not ruling out his return). That might be the single funniest thing ever posted on this website...EVER!!!
  6. He's got a minor league career ERA under 2.00 (this last season 1.24). He's averages over 12 Ks per 9IP (13.9 this year). He doesn't give up the long ball (1 HR allowed this year). The only knock on him is he walks a bit too many which is the kiss of death for a Twins prospect. People see numbers like that, they understandably ask why. I don't see why that's such a bad question. The argument is, if he was worth bringing up they would have? Why? Because the Twins have shown themselves to be great judges of pitching talent lately? The fact that our pitching was so horrible, and Gray was still pitching, says something about this Slama guy. I don't even buy that it is because of his fastball. De Vries fastball can't be much more than 85 mph. Slama cannot pitch in the big leagues, if he could, he would have been picked up off of waivers or drafted in the Rule 5. All the love for this guy is unwarranted. We had a 10 page forum on this guy and sent Terry Ryan a letter/petition in favor of this guy. I wonder how much he and other Twins officials laughed at that. I understand that he probably could have been given a chance in September to pitch 2 or 3 innings, but he didn't. He hasn't been cut, he still has Spring Training to prove he is cabable of being in a Big League Pen. But when he fails at spring training, and gets sent back to Rochester (or cut like everyone wants so he has a "chance), can we please stop with the love for this guy. P.S. Slama, Derek Holland called, he wants his pencil-stache back
  7. Slama finds his way into every thread. We talk about him more than Mauer, Mornie, and Span combined. The funny thing is, most people are arguing that it isn't FAIR for him not to get a shot. Come on now, lets give him a participation medal and maybe he'll feel better about himself. Lets remember that this is a business, the currency is wins, and if the guy was good enough, he would have been called up.
  8. NO. Terrible idea. Terry Ryan needs to find a bargain bin player for the back of our rotation AFTER we sign a few legit starters. Signing Lincecum would be a the opposite of bargain, get a bad player on the decline, for a huge sum of money. Even if SF eats 10 mil, we will still be paying a bullpen arm 12 million dollars. His fastball velocity is way down and his delivery is very Japanish. I think this season is the norm, not the exception. Think Dontrelle Willis.
  9. Are we talking about a sex scandal in the Marketing Department of the Minnesota Twins?
  10. The Handbook is great. I had the whole thing, cover to cover, read by the end of the day yesterday. It just so happened my little students watched movies all day long. The Terry Ryan interview is ridiculous (in a good way). He didn't sugar code anything. He told it like it is, I only remember one instance where he didn't answer something because he didn't want to tip his hat. That article was great. My only problem with the handbook was it was too short. I could read that stuff all day every day. I would also like to have more people have blueprints in it. I'm not saying that the blueprints in it were not good, because they were. Also, just a little bit of a thought, maybe for each free agent, try to gage the Twins possible interest. You could have a bold area under each free agent/trade partner, and have a very high, high, indifferent, low, very low. You did that for some of the players in their profiles, but I am suggesting it for every single free agent. Saying that the blueprint is a great professionally done production. Thanks for taking the time to do it. P.S. Do you think that the Twins announced the roster changes the day this came out on purpose?
  11. Hi, I'm the Internet. I'm a dick who knows everything, never makes a mistake, and remains safely anonymous so you'll never know otherwise. Nice work. The "d" word may have been a little much but it is a free country.
  12. 4 things, The euphemism is "silver spoon", not "golden spoon". It's expendable, not expandable. i before e except after c. How much was that shirt? Look at the shirt again, it is Nick Punto's, and he makes a ton of money. Thank you for correcting my post. I wonder if La Velle E. Neal has to deal with people correcting him on his blog at the startribune.com. Also, our argument was not that we could not afford it. It was that some people perhaps could not. Some of those 47% some people don't care about (Romney).
  13. So do we get an email with a link or will the link be posted on the website...I am giddy with excitement for hours upon hours of reading.
  14. Morneau for Escobar straight up? Would this be a good deal for the Twins, or just a salary dump?
  15. I'm glad TwinsDaily doesn't push the offseason handbook on it's users
  16. Keep your prospects, we do need a few guys to bridge us to the next crop of Twin studs. When rebuilding, you don't have to go the route of Houston. You definatly don't have to go the route of Kansas City, we can be competitive while still building up our farm system. We do need some pitching, but we need to get it by signing Type B, not A, free agents and trading proven major league commodities who do not fit the long term plans. I am thinking Morneau, Span or Reverre (one of but not both), and Willingham. Keep building up that farm system. If we trade one of the men I just mentioned for some minor league pitching, we could still be competitive while building for the future.
  17. Some people will look at anything half full. Are still complaining about 2 AA hitters not getting called up to get 5 AB's in September? I mean how bad is your life that you have to come on this website, day after day, and post your negative viewpoint. "Pitch to contact is the worst, Tom Kelly's is a good high school coach, we take to long to call up our prospects, nag nag nag." This organization has hit a rough patch but it did spend the last decade being one of the top teams in the AL. So I think we should all just calm down and let TR do his thing and get us back to respectability. This team is not that far off.
  18. True...but I think most of us have the glass half empty opinion that Sano will get moved there or 1B and Rosario will not make a successful transition and end up in the OF as well. My fingers are as crossed as they can be that both are able to stay where they currently are. Speaking of infield, are we ever going to see a decent SS in the bigs or even a Prospect above highA ball who is a shortstop?
  19. Totally agree, we need to bring in a few bargain bin guys, on minor league deals. If one pans out and we end up puting him on the 40 man roster, we get a good pitcher. If they fizzle out, we can cut them or send them to Rochester to be called upon when needed.
  20. Pitching in this league is terrible. I know people get angry about Liriano not reaching his full/half/quarter of his actual potential, but he is and can be a decent pitcher in this league. People are not saying that we go out and bid high on him. He cannot and will not be the prize of this offseason. But he can be a good back-page guy. If someone else in the league offers him a conract, we will not get in a bidding war. The conversation is: for the right price, would you take back Liriano. I say yes, if the price is cheap take a flier on a guy who has ace stuff, with a JV head.
  21. Because he is a(an) Yankee, duh. And he is a man/slut. He has slept with more women than Wilt Chamberlain
  22. 4-5 mil would be worth it. We know what we are getting. I don't see the harm. If we sign him to be a bottom of the rotation guy, he is better than Duduno and De Vries. If we can sign a couple of top end guys (Jackson, Marcum, etc.) then a deal for Liriano makes sense. If anyone else shows him interest and drives his value over 5 million, then no freakin' way. But I like the thought of a minor league deal, and I am guessing he would rather come to a place he knows. He is, as you may remember, a bi-polar headcase.
  23. I want Terry Ryan to take this aproach...Sign ALL of them to minor league deals if you can. EVERY SINGLE ONE. If one makes it then it is all worth it. Add Carl Pavano, Marquis, Scott Baker, Blackburn (already stuck with him anyway), Kevin Slowey, and any other reject who may have the stuff in there somewhere. Our pitching staff would suck if we played in the Independent League. The Fargo Red Hawks have a better staff than the Twinks
