  1. Is any of that untrue? No. Is that the same as saying "Our pitching is much better than it's looked? These are good things to know. We really didn't need to do anything at all." No.
  2. So, if I'm the Dodgers and I know the Rays will take De Leon in a 1:1, but Dozier would cost De Leon and Alvarez, the Dodgers would take the Rays deal every day.
  3. Well, as many here noted constantly when we were winning in 2015, we weren't an 83 win team. Baseruns was often used to tell us we were really a 75 win team. So, it's probably a fair reminder that the Twins weren't a 103 loss team last year. Rather, they were a 71-91 team. I share your concern about Molitor but I think the FO has taken steps to check him with their FO coach in the dug out and they haven't extended him. He's a lame duck manager. The new FO seems to have made several moves inside the org including setting a new draft guru and increasing Jack Goins department. Yes, not a lot has been done but they did sign the catcher they wanted and the offense is more or less set and it's worth remembering that the Twins aren't a bad team overall - they have a nice offensive nucleus in place - but the pitching .... Pitching is the problem and they can improve that through natural regression, improved pitch framing, improved defense. They've already removed 46 starts from last years team and if they move Duffey to the pen for May, that's another 26 starts removed. I'm not sure how much the defense is improved - they have some question marks on the left side of the infield and possibly in RF but they should probably be better than Nunez/Santana/Grossman, if nothing else. At the end of the day, the Twins are probably in wait and see mode with their youngsters as the new FO gets an understanding of the system and the manager.
  4. Twins also hired that FO scout from the Dodgers. They had a good idea of the value and worth of the parties involved. They set a price and it wasn't met. That's a good thing, not a bad thing.
  5. The Twins will be better because they have a lot of young talent on the team. We apparently upgraded at catcher, which was demanded by everyone, and even bought into pitch framing. The Twins will be better because the pitchers aren't as bad as they were last year. The Twins will be better because Berrios is a better pitcher than De Leon. If you want a backend starter, they can still sign Hammel. There are a number of relief arms still out there. Arguing that we can't know what the Twins were offered for Dozier (despite all the evidence we have) and then complaining that we didn't trade Dozier is just bitching for bitching's sake. The Twins were offered De Leon and junk. That's the most credible reports. They correctly said no. They kept a player that makes the 2017 team better.
  6. Twins weren't offered Alvarez. Passan reports that the Dodgers were higher on Alvarez than De Leon. No single credible report has ever suggested Alvarez was in the deal and many credible reports said he wasn't. That the Dodgers only traded De Leon supports the theory that Steve Adams at mlbtraderumors held which was that the Dodgers offered De Leon and "junk."
  7. Well, that's that. Seems like the Dodgers held firm to what they wanted to pay and got Forsythe. I'm glad the Twins didn't take a 1:1 swap.
  8. Ha! The movie sucked. It stared Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsdale and Jessica Biel. Just awful.
  9. I don't disagree but it can be overstated as well.
  10. No, just that we're overly weighing the effect of good defense. The bat is still far more important. A bad glove, good hitting team is going to be better than a good glove/bad hitting team. Ideally, you want both but unless Polanco is a historically bad defender, his effect for a few months won't move the needle much.
  11. Total Recall bothered me more.
  12. I think we might be getting a little too caught up in defense. Yes, it's important but bats are still much more important. The Royals won 95 games (and the WS) two years ago in part because their excellent defenders were hitting. Last year, their were still a great defense but they didn't hit and were a .500 team. If the team has to use Polanco at short, so be it. If he can hit, he won't be a bad player. And if he can't hit, he'll be benched.
  13. It's probably worth pointing out that the 2013-2015 draft classes haven't produced a hit yet that the Twins could have drafted. The best MLers (so far) from those drafts have been Turner, Tim Anderson, Brandon Finnigan and Sean Manaea. Obviously, there are a lot of highly ranked guys from those drafts in the minors although I can't think of any low round guys who are currently highly ranked from those drafts (but there could be some). And those highly ranked players include - depending on the list - Twins players. As for hits in general, I think Berrios at 32 (or whatever) would probably qualify. And Buxton will be fine.
  14. I think the bolded part is certainly subject for debate.
  15. Yeah, Turner is a good pick in hindsight - much like Trout. But Turner was pretty consistently considered a tier below and the discussion here compared him a lot to Levi Micheal. I do remember the Twins being linked to him in a "they worked him out" sorta way but there didn't seem to be a lot more than that. Pretty much every draft had Gordon well above him. And that's kind of the risk you get when you draft HS kids. Gordon will be 21 next season and in AA. That's the same age Turner was drafted.
  16. Thanks for the post. Any Dodgers in that range? As for Stewart, I don't think arguing about his ranking matters much. We'll know a lot more after this season. (Admittedly, I said the same thing last year).
  17. I'm not going to comment on everything but didn't the Twins kind of hire a baseball guy to sit in the dugout and manage Molitor? I know it wasn't expressed that way but I thought Falvey/Lavine put a coach in the dugout. Perhaps I'm misremembering. As for Polanco, he's blocked by Dozier. So you either bench him or play him at short or trade one of him or Dozier. I think the FO's plan was to trade Dozier but it doesn't seem likely to happen. So they'll probably run with him for now. In two months maybe he slides over to third, Sano to fulltime DH and Escobar to short.
  18. I would doubt it. If he has a season that shows he can stick at catcher and hit at the ML level, he'll get scooped up fairly quickly. If he has a repeat of last season - questions about whether he can stay behind the plate, injuries - he might not be worth the risk. And if he has a big bat season but can't catcher - so his future is at first base or DH he'd probably be gone, too. He could fall if he had high signing demands but I'm not sure how to guess on those things this far out.
  19. I've mentioned this before but I'm wary of Stewart. He seems a lot like Tyler Duffey. Maybe he's a bit better, maybe not. But he's not going to move the needle. We could sign Hammel instead and keep Dozier and have another back of the rotation arm. Couple that with the concerns of De Leon's durability and the Twins could end up really snookered on a De Leon Stewart deal. For now I think the new FO is going to roll the dice on what they have, see what they have (in the field and in the staff) and make moves later. I suspect our biggest moves will be signing some FA relievers. Maybe things change in ST.
  20. Has there been any indication the teams are going to come back to this? I know Lavine said something like "we'll always listen" but other than that, the Dozier rumor mill has been particularly quiet.
  21. I agree. Someone in the 10-20 range will be available at 35. We just don't know who yet.
  22. New FO and draft guru. I think they should get a college pitcher with their first pick and upside HS arm at 35. But if they went with Greene at #1, I'd say the next two picks should be college players.
  23. Stewart, in my opinion, isn't in the Buehler/Calhoun category but that's just semantics. That looks like a top 30 prospect (De Leon) and another top 100 (Calhoun/Buehler). That's not too far off of what I think his value would be (although Calhoun isn't a great fit and most sources have Buehler as untouchable in a De Leon trade).
  24. Hitters that were traded for top 40 prospects - Eaton, Lucroy, Gomez etc I'm not saying "wait for the deadline." I'm saying point out some recent trades that you think show Dozier's value today. Perhaps I'm misreading you but your POV seems to be that the Twins shouldn't trade him for what they think his value is but rather take what the Dodgers set the market at. I'm curious if you can find trades that correspond to what that return would be. I have pointed out a number of trades that I think demonstrate his rough market value (two top 100 prospects, plus a bit more). You disagree. Can you give examples of why you think his value is, for example, one top 100 prospect and one back-end starter based on actual ML trades?
  25. Faedo, Vientos, Baez. High upside college starter and two nice HS prospects.
