  1. Man, if they take Lewis they better have a damn good explanation and if they don't spend all of their draft pool I'm going to go ballistic.
  2. BA's last mock - http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2017-mlb-mock-draft-5-0/#cLWih6zodqz7Vg26.97 Also have the Twins taking Lewis. Gad. We're bring Boras into our locker room and not drafting a pitcher?
  3. Yeah, I'm not too upset about passing on Greene. I wanted a college pitcher so I'll be ok with McKay. I might want three college pitchers, depending on how the draft falls.
  4. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/210960834/v1469243883/live-2017-mlb-draft-day-1 is my link but it's in and out. Adobe flash doens't like to work with this and Twins Daily both running. ****ing TD.
  5. ? As opposed to your deep knowledge? If you were around back then you'd remember that trading Hammer was brought up. Steve Adams at mlbtraderumors said his value was a "Sean Gilmartin type" - a minor league swing man. Feel free to think that because they didn't pull the trigger on that, they weren't rebuilding.
  6. Because you'd lose the value of the pick. Let's say Twins take Greene and say, sign for 2m less then slot. Even if he does that, he's not going to agree until 5 minutes before the deadline which gives you very little time to get that 2m spread to other signees. And if he pulls out after you've allocated those dollars, you lose your picks next year. This almost happened to the Astros with Jacob Nix.
  7. Eh. True, they could have traded Hughes but they kept him for less AAV than Nolasco, while being a few years younger. But complaining that they couldn't trade 5m guys like Suzuki or 7m guys like Hammer is useless. Those guys had no trade value and were just holding the fort. The Twins, like the Cubs and Astros, did sign pitchers in the 4/45 bucket. These type of guys - Santana, Nolasco, Garza, Feldman, Jackson, IIRC - well, results varied on all. They did trade away nearly all vets - Liriano, Slowey, Revere, Span, Morneau, Doumit, etc, etc, so that's a false statement on your part. But if you want to argue that not trading Hughes means they weren't rebuilding, fine. You're wrong. If you want to argue they could have rebuilt better/differently, sure. But you and I have always viewed things differently. 2012-2015 went pretty much like I thought it would. 2016 was the only surprising year to me.
  8. I think it's more what are the Mariners doing? But has anyone noticed Schwarber is below replacement level this year?
  9. Well, I'd be stunned if Lewis is really the pick and if he is, they better have something good at 35 planned. I don't want us to save money at 1 just to sign a bunch of 3rd or 4th round types after round 10.
  10. So, by signing Castro they aren't making the same mistake as they did with Hammer? Lucky. You're arguing that the Twins have refused to rebuild.
  11. 2013? Really? The Twins have had a top farm system for the last four years and that farm system is now delivering at the ML level. The ML team had to play someone 7m in 2013 means they weren't rebuilding? You seem to want the team to have all the prospects up at the same time in the same window, which doesn't happen. But since you don't think we've started to rebuild, where are the trade Castro threads? He's a vet on a three year deal. We should trade him.
  12. You don't think the Twins have been rebuilding? Then you should be arguing that we should trade Sano and Castro and pretty much everyone on the ML roster to start a rebuild.
  13. Didn't McKay's velocity drop coincide with him trying a new pitch? I thought he pitched pretty well down the stretch for Louisville regardless of his velocity and his secondary pitches are supposed to be pretty solid. A lefty can get away with slightly less mph than a righty.
  14. How many college guys in the top 15 or so picks didn't have big fastballs?
  15. That the Scouts like Lewis isn't surprising. He's the kind of guy Twins have targeted for decades - high upside tools to spare HS prospect. He'd be a normal years Twins pick easy. I'm more curious on why the analytics guys like McKay - I would imagine they like him as a pitcher (as reported).
  16. mlbpipeline and minorleague ball both have McKay above Wright. BA and fangraphs have Wright above McKay. So McKay isn't a horrible choice. He's either the best or second best college arm. Or the Twins might love his bat after they look at it in person.
  17. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/235886620/mock-draft-for-first-round-of-2017-mlb-draft/ Both Callis and Mayo have the Twins taking McKay with Lewis in consideration only if he's really cheap. 1. Twins Mayo: Brendan McKay, LHP/1B, Louisville - The Twins are still looking at multiple candidates, with Vanderbilt's Kyle Wright, and high schoolers Hunter Greene, Royce Lewis and MacKenzie Gore still being kicked around. But McKay looks like the odds-on favorite right now, and they would draft him as a pitcher. Callis: Brendan McKay, 1B/LHP, Louisville - Minnesota prefers McKay as a potential No. 2 starter but likely will give him the chance to both hit and pitch at the start of his career. California high school shortstop/outfielder Lewis appears to be Plan B, but only if he would cost significantly less than McKay, which won't happen.
  18. If the Twins take Lewis, then they have to have something planned at 35/37. Do we know who represents Lewis? I don't think it was Boras.
  19. Gordon is probably a top 30-40 prospect right now and we'll probably see that represented in the midseason updates that come out. Greene, Wright and McKay will all be top 20 prospects. I think Lewis will be in the 40-60 range. Gore could be anywhere from 20-60, IMHO, depending on who is viewing him. Whoever we get at 35/37 will certainly be in the Twins top 10. If we get lucky and someone falls, we might get a top 100 type at 35, although unlikely.
  20. Greene, Wright, and McKay would all be #1. Lewis would be #2 behind Gordon. Gore I could see either way.
  21. I'd be against that. A guy like Carlson or Romero or Enlow might fall on their own. If we're going to try and mess with the draft, we have to aim for a guy like Baz or Adell to fall. I'm fairly confident that a top 15ish guy on some list will fall to 35 independently. Buehler did it a few years ago, Hudson did it last year.
  22. Yep, he didn't sign. Travis Lee was the last one, I believe. But we also took Belcher 1/1 and he didn't sign either. I very much doubt that the new regime is going to want Boras clients in the locker room trying to get Sano and Buxton to change agents.
