  1. Can someone explain to me WHY Phil Hughes started this game tonight? What is the reasoning? Seriously. Is it the money? Because I can sort of understand that. Do they feel like they "owe" him one last opportunity, out of loyalty or something? Or do they actually think he's the best available option? I hope to all heck it's not this. This would not be a good thing.
  2. Outscored 13-3 after the 1st inning. So far.
  3. He needs to improve quite a bit to be a AAAA reliever.
  4. Votto, who everyone brings up every time I complain about Mauer, has swung at the first pitch twice tonight. HR, double.
  5. I come to the game thread with a heavy heart tonight. My friend Sal, who used to meet me for a beer most every afternoon, passed away yesterday. We had a deal...we both loved baseball soooo much, and we wondered whether there would be baseball in heaven. Our deal was, the first to die would come back and tell the other if there was baseball or not. Well, I got a visit from Sal this afternoon. "I have good news, and bad news, my friend," he told me. "The good news is, there IS baseball in heaven. The bad news is...you and I have box seat tickets to take in a doubleheader this Sunday."
  6. Duffy doesn't have the ability to change.
  7. Alright, I'm caught up. Mauer's AB with two runners on was the low point for me. Take two strikes, shuffle foot across batter's box to smooth it out, look back for confirmation that yes, indeed, it was a fastball right down the middle, nod in agreement, get jammed and dribble one to the second baseman. Lather, rinse, repeat. Worse than the pitching. Pathetic.
  8. Just catching up on tape delay...we're off to a fantastic start I see...up 5-1 in the first! We got this one in the bag, I'm sure.
  9. “Don’t bother fixing the last man in the bullpen, there are other fish to fry” = “Don’t bother paying the electric bill, we owe a ton on our student loans.”
  10. I felt like Tanaka would have been shelled by many teams last night.
  11. I don't mind the bunt for a hit there, if they're giving it to him. Maybe once in a while Mauer could try hitting a ball to right field too. Typically the right fielder is "waaaaay over there" towards center. You know...giving it to him. Maybe get that SLG up over .400 for a change.
  12. Who had April 23 in the "first date for a position player on the bump" pool?
  13. let's hope it doesn't lead to an ingrown.
  14. The worst part is, Tanaka is terrible. A good hitting team will light him up.
  15. I’m on a whiskey diet. So far I’ve lost three days.
  16. Well LeCroy over Ortiz is in a Hall Of Shame, whole other level of bad. But I honestly think shipping out Hicks is number 2.
  17. That trade was quite possibly the second worst thing done by Terry Ryan in his tenure as GM. Awful. Predictably awful. Giving up that kind of talent? For Murphy?
