  1. Your approach is one dimensional. You don't leave a guy that isn't hitting in the lineup, so he has to go down because he won't get the playing time needed to work it out up here. Its that simple. We don't trot out a lineup of 8 hitters and a guy who needs to work on things.
  2. Polanco Mauer Kepler Sano Dozier Rosario Eddie Zuke Bux
  3. Twins should engage Rod Carew to work with him on hitting for contact. And maybe they should have his eyes checked, like Ricky Vaughn.
  4. Funny, I could do without Rickey (don't lose that number) Nolasco or Tommy Milone. I would like to see Berrios and Duffy in the rotation. Milone is a good change of pace middle RP. Kep or Walk need to be that 3rd OF, with Arcia on the bench as a 4th OF/lefty ph.
  5. Hey, stuff happens. Sano learned from that at bat, I guarantee you.
  6. base running depends on a lot of things, good jump, where in the count, what pitch is likely to be thrown, sliding....You have a better chance at stealing on a curve ball than a fastball. Molitor's coaching will show over the second half. He has instilled a "take it when you can" mindset. And I like the aggressiveness.
  7. Who woulda thought the Twins would be thinking title? Yeee haaaawww!
  8. He has Tim Raines level speed. That triple was a stand up and there was no throw. This on a ball that would have been a double for anyone else. Go Bux
  9. I wouldn't give up a thing. May the best team win, and it is supposed to be that way. That is the beauty of sports.
  10. I am just grateful I found what appears to be the only article on the whole internet that is not about Caitlyn Jenner or the Duggars.
  11. so you trade a guy that you describe as a potential All Star for some middling prospect? Cripes. I want you in my fantasy league
  12. What doesn't get mentioned by posters is that not only was Zuke an All Star last year, but he has the respect of the pitching staff and his teammates generally. He gets timely hits, and is a tough out. Catching is still a defensive position and good receivers are rare. I mean, look, Bob Boone was an allstar catcher for many years, and his batting average hovered around the Mendoza line a lot. There are only so many Mike Piazzas and Johnny Benches. I'd like to see the Twins draft the best catcher available (BCA?) and that means they need to rely on Zuke through 2016 , and maybe Pinto for a year after that to prove he belongs in the show as a number 1. Pinto needs to work on things defensively. That is why they put him in AAA where he will play a lot more than if he had a part time backup gig in Minnesota. Hermann is a fill in, like Butera, only without the defense. For now, I think the Twins are handling the position about as well as they can. And I would be 100 percent against giving up our developing prospects to upgrade a position that is considered a defensive spot on most rosters.
  13. Ummm Nick, Paul has made adjustments all season and has the Twins playing way over their heads.
  14. If Sano can't play 3B, he cant't play outfield. I could see a future infield of Sano/Plouffe, Santana (Gordon), Dozier and Mauer/Vargas. OF of Plouffe/Rosario, Buxton and Hicks. What I'd like to see is the Twins draft the best catcher available as soon as possible.
  15. nothing like a bench fulla banjo hitters, I always say

    How fun is this?

Nolasco reminds me of Jesse Crain BEFORE he learned the slider. His fastball was straight too.
  17. Gardy almost seemed to have his mind made up before the game even started sometimes. Very rigid in his thinking. And he played favorites. A good baseball man, sure, but he didn't seem to adapt as well to th ereality on teh field. Molly sees what is happening and adjusts to counter it. He is less rigid in his thinking and more likely to make a change when indicated. Nothing Mollly has done so far is genius though, just mostly common sense. Aside from handling prima donna athletes with gold chains and fat wallets, a good high school coach can manage a major league team. It is not rocket science. You go with what works. Gardy's stubborn nature overcame his common sense way to often.
  18. There's no walleye fishing in Miami
  19. There are a LOT of guys in A and AA that can throw 93 mph. What Pelfrey is going through reminds me of Jesse Crain. Crain had a decent fastball, but it went straight and got hit. Once he discovered the change and slider were working, his performance improved drastically. Same with Pelfrey. His sinker was occcasionally awesome against KC. But putting a guy who relies on a sinker in a situation with guys on can be risky. Pitches in the dirt are more likel to be passed balls or wild pitches. With runners on, that is bad. The Twins took a big chance on Mike, and they obviously want to get something in return, so I say let him pitch his way out of the rotation now. If his good starts continue, so much the better. Meanwhile, Milone is what he is. At least he is consistent. Ricky looks like a failed experiment. He did show up in better shape this year and that is a positive. But he is damaged goods and nobody wants him in a trade. As for those who say trade Pelfrey as soon as you can.... good luck with that. Teams looking for a fifth starter can get one practically anywhere without giving up much in return. Case in point: Marquis is stiil pitching. Pelfrey and Nolasco are like that beater pickup you want to sell, but nobody will give you more than $1500. For that money you might as well just keep it for a spare.
  20. Playing the two hottest teams in MLB (Tigers 7-1 and Royals 7-0 ) will do that to you. They brought a few meh pitchers to the pen and the Shafe and Robbie act is almost as dumb as the Kubes and Bartlett idea last year. I understand wanting to get that extra year of control over our young guns by starting them in the minors but that idea is so old way of thinking. If the kids are good, pay em and if they prove themselves sign em long term. Forget setting up the ability to control and low ball future contracts. Put the best 9 on the field, and stop with the mediocre talent place holders already. It cheats the fans in so many ways.
  21. A leadoff hitter only gets to bat first one time a game, so it is a stat that is inflated in importance? That is why baseball stats can be so misleading. In the guise of a metric or statistical analysis, the theory misses the point, completely. Like swinging over the top of a Bruce Sutter sinker. The leadoff hitter, if he is the right guy, gets to hit in front of your most productive bats. You need someone who can turn it on if a ball gets in the gap. That is the thing. That it happens only one time for the first time means nothing to my analysis. For 400 to 600 ABs a year you want your fastest guy and one of the best baserunners at leadoff. OK, so any analysis that looks only at the stat carve out misses a lof of intangibles. Like a hitter knowing the runner on first is going for three on a looper to right---meaning he is hoping to score second base on the throw. But more than that. Mauer is no leadoff hitter. He isnt fast, and is not a crafty baseunner that can put pressure on a defense. Santana is. Dozier kind of is. Leadoff requires speed as a prime requisite. Your fastest guy hits there so long as he is not in a slump. Danny is the guy until someone beats him out.
  22. Your best 5 starters should start. That means Meyer, Gibby, May, Santana and Hughes. Ricky in the pen to start. Pelfrey and Milone, only one of those two guys make it North.
  23. I'd like to see Reed and Burdi in this year's bullpen. Take a good look at Sano and Bux and Rosario too. I think a roster full of whiz kids would be fun.
  24. the forg thing is irritating
  25. I can hear you now, in the winter of 1961-62. Yeah, well Roger Maris hit 61 homes, but that is just not sustainable. Good years are good years and Suze had an all star year. I say he has earned the benefit of the doubt..
