    During the years of despair, I considered it a win if we had a larger number in the hit column than the opponent had in the run column. This happened disturbingly infrequently.

    So we'll have to trade Buxton to the Yankees for a back-up catcher, right?

    Costco carries some good wines, but be careful in the summer. A few years back both a wine-buddy and I ended up with some bottles of reliable wines that we knew and liked that had been "cooked" by improper storage in hot weather---yes, even in Portland. I don't buy much wine there anymore, but never in July through October.
