  1. Arcia higher in the lineup. Interesting!
  2. Sort of a Lyman Bostock vs. Tony Oliva type question. Although Tony never hit 10 triples, but a ton of doubles. I'm good with either :-)
  3. Many thanks! Any article on Killebrew is tops on my list. One more favor: can you create a title for all of your articles? Like "Twins history into fun-sized chunks - Part 1" ?
  4. I can't access Part 1. Error message says: Sorry, you don't have permission for that!
  5. TJ surgery has changed over the years and players are coming back a lot faster than before. [wish I had some player references for that right now, but I don't] With a few weeks of stretching out his arm in sunny, warm FLA and a month or 2 of AA playing time, I think there is at least a possibility of Sano being ready for MLB around the All-Star break. At 260lbs, his weight does bother me some. MiLB and baseball-reference both have him at 235lbs. But who knows when was the last time he was weighted?
  6. I think all he has to do is hit. With his defense, a .250 average keeps him in the lineup.
  7. I admit it: I had to lookup Jason Wheeler. Hmm, 6'6" 255lbs. What Jason Wheeler wants, Jason Wheeler gets. LOL
  8. It's pretty simple: you learn to make contact before you try hitting for power. The leg kick is a timing mechanism that most power hitters use for a quick powerful swing. And, yes, Mauer can do this as well. The Twins need to make sure he is ONLY listening to Brunansky. And he already has one advantage over Puckett: He's tall enough to have an uppercut.
  9. Sounds like Vargas has been cleaning up his swing. Got a lot of hope for him. I can't find any video of Sano AB's post-2013. What I saw was a guy getting chewed-up by breaking balls. Arcia has been in MLB for 2 years and is only 23. I liked what Brunansky did with him last year and could be the Twins right fielder for years to come. Vargas should get some time at 1st, but should be primary DH. Can't really say much about Sano. Probably/should be starting in the minors. I see a bright power future, and probably a crap load of K's, in the Twins future.
  10. Hopefully, the days of 'rotation patching' are over. Nolasco, Pelfry, Correia and now Santana were all bad choices that nobody else wanted. I expect little from Nolasco and Pelfry. Maybe a little more from Santana.
  11. I like his size and I like his demeanor. But he's gotta watch that pissing of the umpire stuff and his dropping his slider and going with a curve concern me. Then on the other hand, he's just getting started. This next year will mean a lot. If he cools off a bit and takes instructions well, he could be on the fast track.
  12. In a post yesterday, someone pointed out Adam Wainwright to me. Full time starter in minors, then a 1.fraction year in bullpen for Cardinals. Very successful, but the Cards overworked him as a starter the next year and spent time in minors for rehab. An innings eater after that. Wainwright is tall like Meyer, so maybe a brief stint in the bullpen may help.
  13. May is one of those oddities to me: 6'5", 240 lbs and his fastball averaged 91.9mph? But, he has shown he can punch it up to 93-95. This sounds like a case where he's pulling the string to get location. Sounds like bullpen time may actually be a good thing.
  14. Some organizations seem to be really good at developing pitchers. The Cardinals are amongst the top. A good pitcher leaving via free agency? Not problem. Promote the next one I wonder if the Cardinals go for a certain body type. I don't remember them having a tall, lanky pitcher. Mostly big, squared shoulder-type...
  15. I agree completely! I believe stretching him out and then switching him to short stint, relief rolls would be counter productive. Too tall. Johan Santana is a lot shorter than Meyer. That alone makes beginning in the bullpen a whole different story.
  16. I have issues with the commentary by Jeff Mans. His article was POSTED on Sporting News. However, his website/blog is called FantasyAlarm.com. So I'd say his views are slanted towards the negative. Is Meyer's shoulder problems really due to mechanics or is it a physical problem. I haven't heard, but has he been to one of these specialty-sports clinics? I'm very much against putting Meyer in the bullpen. To me, that may be trading a Randy Johnson for a Jon Rauch.
  17. THIS is what I love about the Hot Stove league!!
  18. Personally, I don't see anyone as untouchable. I believe in selling high. And in baseball, especially when other teams value players that highly.
  19. Can't argue with that! But look at it this way: the Twins have blown money on Pelfry, Nolasco and now Tory Hunter to be a coach/player. Why not spend the extra dough on a real ace pitcher? Apparently the Pohlad family has a lot to throw around. And Hamels is only 31.... I only threw out those players as a starter. Buxton has been considered the top minor league prospect for the past couple years. I honestly don't know how, since he's been injured the past couple years, but there it is. Dozier could be the Philles backup plan if they decide to dump Chas Utley's salary. Oh, yeah, the other part of my "master plan": put Pelfry and Nolasco on waivers and see who makes a claim. Then you'll know their REAL value :-)
  20. I'm ready to break the mold. 1. There is a list of players in the minors that sound like they're ready for that MLB taste. 2. No matter what the Twins will tell you, you don't win with "innings eaters" or players with physical problem and hope and pray they'll get well beyond what their previous track record has shown. And...... 3. The Philadelphia Phillies are in rebuilding mode, dumping salaries and veterans and are looking for prospects. Recently reported by Ken Rosenthal reported the Padres made a serious offer for Cole Hammels, but were turned down due to beliefs the Padres "a sufficiently promising single prospect asset". See where I'm going here? The theory is: Philles, in full-blown rebuild mode are looking for 2 things: young highly rated prospects and dumping bloated salaries. The Twins NEED starting pitching. Now, not later. IF the Twins minor leagues are as good as many people think, why not take a shot? Hammels and Cliff Lee for: [starting with] Buxton, Dozier and toss in a couple of the young flamethrowers. I'm thinking it would at least get their attention. Yes, I know Lee has about run out his career, but he has been very successful in BOTH leagues. That's something you don't often see. Hammels is an ace. Dozier is easily replaceable by Polanco. I'm ready for my beating :-)
  21. Give me a Lyman Bostock-type player or give me death!! I loved watching him hit opposite-field triples! Checkout his 1977 numbers.
  22. Guys like Trevor May have always confused me. 6'5" 215 lbs and he throws in the low 90's? Someone was not teaching proper mechanics: lunge forward, drop front leg into the bucket, rotate hips and power through with back leg. That being said, I view him much like Eduardo Escobar: did he do anything to lose his position? In the end, the problem will be in the long-term signings of Nolasco, Pelfry, et al and not promoting from within.
  23. I don't get moving Meyers to the bullpen at all. He has been working and getting stretched out for role of a starter for the past 3 years. If the Twins need a reliever, pull one of the guys out the minors. On another note: Why is Gibson's spot on the rotation a lock? When he was on, he was very good. When he was off, he way off. I'd call his spot 'pending competition', with Nolasco's next in line.
  24. I wouldn't get caught up on his age. His birthday was Jan. 3
