  1. I think Batista would be a great asset for all the young hitters on this team. P.S. I'm a big Eddie Rosario fan. However, if he doesn't improve OBP this year, it's time to move on.
  2. Missed this one: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/minor-mlb-transactions-121116.html Catcher Dan Rohlfing is back with the Twins.
  3. I never really had any expectations of the Winter Meetings. Seems like the 1st thing we heard was Falvey and Levine were just now meeting some of their team members for the first time. I followed DaveW's Forum and all I could think of is: a Dozier trade isn't going to be made right now. The timing is off. If / when a Dozier trade is made, I'd like to see a return of pitchers only, spread across MiLB levels. Pitchers are pretty much being priced out of MN market. I think Falvey will be spending more time looking at player development than anything else. There seems to be a disconnect between MiLB instruction and MLB needs. In the MLB, the Twins had to rework the mechanics of Berrios, Duffey and Buxton. Not really a good sign.

  5. From Thread to Eternity. my god. how could this one be missed....
  6. Seems like an awful depends on trading Dozier this year. Potential to start a playoff run in a couple years. Also depends a lot on the young veterans continued development. Overall, I like the team setup here, with few exceptions. Trevor May can NOT be in the bullpen: http://www.twincities.com/2016/08/10/back-woes-have-minnesota-twins-trevor-may-wondering-whats-next/ To summarize: the extra rest between starts is what keeps him going. The constant up/down in the bullpen it what aggravates the back problem. IMO: as Falvey and Levine build this team towards contention, there will be no spot for May and many others. Neftali Feliz: Why? Is this team going to be making a really big jump next year? Or the year after? Not against the signing, but is it money well spent? Kintzler: He was greatly over used at the end of last season. Reason? Those young relievers. I'm completely in favor of bringing him back. For 1 year, only. I can't find any real recent new on Byung Ho Park. I guess contract puts him on the roster. Kennys Vargas: IMHO, Times up. Twins have had some offers for him. Take one. Need more contact and speed on this roster.
  7. Well, if the quibble is about 1-2 more players from Dodgers, there should be some talk about the Twins adding another piece or 2. Right?
  8. Interesting comment on MLB.com on return expectation on trading Dozier: "The three-player return for Eaton surprised many in the industry, but the outfielder is one of the game's more underrated players because of his elite defense, and he remains under team control through 2021 for $38.4 million. Dozier, who posted a similar WAR to Eaton last season despite hitting 28 more homers than Eaton, is only under control for the next two seasons at $15 million, which means the Twins aren't expected to receive a package comparable to the one Chicago received for Eaton." I've never heard this before. http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/article/210615946/twins-hear-interest-on-more-than-brian-dozier/
  9. The Twins have been pretty high on the loyalty-thing. Without any evidence, I'm betting the new guys won't follow that model. Mauer: Pretty sure that contract is guaranteed. What team would take on that contract on a declining player.
  10. I'm with you on this one. The Dodgers payroll is so high that I don't believe they'll be able to afford anyone in the Class of 2017 Free Agent class. The Twins have the upper-hand. Squeeze until they squeal !
  11. The White Sox are clearing out space for the Free Agent class of 2017....
  12. After all this time I'd be very surprised if Dozier is the only player the Twins give up.
  13. When I logged in this morning, there were 666 posts. That's gotta be an Omen... http://www.filmlinc.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/TheOmen2.jpg
  14. A very interesting article on USAToday by Bob Nightingale: Too soon? MLB GMs salivating over potential 2018 free agents Why are the White Sox having a fire sale? (Get it? They traded Chris Sale!) And why are the Dodgers in a bad spot? How the heck did Bryce Harper turn down a $400 M contract? Read below! http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2016/12/07/teams-prepare-free-agency-class-of-2018-bryce-harper-manny-machado/95124202/ ...and the list: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/2018-19-mlb-free-agents.html So, maybe the Twins are quite this year and planning for 2018? Hey, a feller can dream, right?

  16. C'mon Twins. Give us something, ANYTHING, that we can hang our hats on!
  17. I object!! DaveW is no ordinary "ya-hoo" !!
  18. Buxton and bunting: I don't believe it was done specifically to turning Buxton into another Carew, I think it was more of an "eye / hand coordination" thing. I can't say that it lead to all his HR's at the end of the season. One thing that was infinitely clear: Buxton was never asked to bunt before: didn't know how to hold the bat, was hacking at the ball, and a few more etc's. Sano: I never expected him to be a good defensive player at 3rd or anywhere. Excellent defensive DH If there work with him this offseason on getting a little better in the field, Great! But offense will always be his calling card and MLB scouting reports and pitchers caught up to him last year. If I was on the coaching staff, I'd probably concentrate more on the continuation of his plate adjustments.
  19. Hope / Joke Hey, that almost rhymes! It's a style of rhyme I can't remember. Maybe next September.

    My Rule 5 Pick

Just turned 21. Why not? I think the obvious problem is he's overthrowing. Just watched a video of him pitching. In a word: Delivery all over the place. This is always the thing I'm concerned about when people rave about 100mph fastballs. Preach control, FIRST!
