  2. The thing that disturbed me the most about Berrios is the Twins staff felt the need to completely re-do his windup. I mean, yes, there is a learning curve from MiLB to MLB. But, shouldn't this have been detected in the MiLB? Gonsalves: from the little I've seen of video clips, he could use another couple MPH on his fastball. 75% of a Greg Maddox is OK? Haven't seen anything of Jay or Romero. Haven't seen much of either. For both: I'd wait another year before judging either too harshly. We seem to have had a pretty good crop of lower level pitchers recently with a lot of arm issues. Some got playing time in the MLB last year. Patience.....
  3. Oh, no question. But I think we need to temper that judgement by looking at the MLB service time those players have. Just tossing this off the top of my head, but I think it's pretty true that, for most player, there's about a 2 year period where they adjust to the speed of the MLB game before there's any success. Rosario and Sano are approaching or at that 2nd year. I would expect improvement from both. Buxton, Kepler, Polanco and a bunch of pitchers are just getting started. I think this'll be a fun year to watch Twins development, but expect another losing season. EDIT: just read some of the other commentaries. Sorry jimmer. Didn't mean to gangup on you.
  4. There's still some smoothing out in Sano's mechanics that needs to be done. No more "bonk, bonk on the head" type plays
  5. If we were to get De Leon and Alvarez for Dozier, I'd be a little disappointed. But not hideously upset. Getting a couple young starters to work into the MLB this season is the biggest thing to me. 2nd is better defense. IMO: the OF defense is about a good as we can get, without sacrificing offense. With 2/3erds of it having a fraction of a season in MLB ballparks, I'd think it safe to say improvement is very possible. In the INF, I think some stability would really help. Plant Polanco at ONE position. If the overall offense develops like we think, I'd try Vielma for better defense at SS. Or rent Mario Mendoza, if he's still around
  6. Agree. We've seen the same info on the trade status quoted directly from Falvey. The guy who's fingerprints are on the trade talks.
  7. Thanks for the update, D.W. MLB Rumors is also reporting: "FanRag’s Jon Heyman tweeted today that multiple teams are inquiring with the Twins on Dozier." Which would be very cool! From what I'm reading here, De Leon is ready for MLB and Alvarez may be in the ballpark. And, yeah, I think Falvey should be greedy and push for a 3rd and 4th. I don't know who, but I lean towards back-filling the MiLB.
  8. Wow, commentary petered @ 10:31pm last night? Time to give it up??
  9. Considering their non-issue with an enormous payroll, I find the "reluctant to give up their prospects" kinda weird.
  10. From the Star Tribune: Twins looking for veterans in bullpen. Some snippets: “It seemed as if the Twins had tremendous arms in the bullpen, but not a lot of experience. A lot of young guys coming out of the bullpen into extremely stressful situations,” "The Twins are shopping, he suggested, for ways to add veterans to the ’pen, and the starting rotation, too." Can't argue with that. Hopefully, those veteran arms are quality arms and not another round of 'dumpster diving'. http://www.startribune.com/twins-looking-for-veterans-in-bullpen/406686426/
  11. I'm starting a new job at Walmart this morning. Start time is 6am cst. Currently: -25 degree windchill. In Minnesota, you always need to know the windchill. It let's Minnesotan's know when to say "Ufda".
  12. Because the Dodgers have better prospects? Hey, I just brought it up because I was curious. Way to quiet for my tastes....
  13. I was thinking the same way on some of those veterans. At the time that Santana, Hughes, Kintzler were acquired, I never heard of any other team interested in them. Hey, if Kintzler is thought of as a "proven closer" I'd add him, NOW :-)
  14. After all this time ( Ok, maybe it just seems like that ) why no word of the Twins maybe sweetening the pot a little?

  16. “The combination of those three mindsets can lead us down a path of building a sustainable winner.” That's all we've ever asked for.
  17. With an adjusted payroll of $187M+ I'm pretty sure that's not an issue the Dodgers even think about.
  18. Texas asked for Joe Ross from the Nat's. According to BR, Profar's WAR is 0.0 and slightly below. That makes him 'reserve level'. IMO: even though Profar can be exciting [in both good and bad ways] I just don't think he's a "need" for the Twins right now.
  19. What the Yahoo!! article also shows is the probable reason why they haven't completed the Dozier trade: Bigger fish to fry. After spending a reported $200M for Jensen, Hill and Turner, the Dozier contract for $6 and $9M over the next 2 years seems like a no brainier for the Dodgers. Just gotta fit in a couple pieces.
  20. Post trade, why would we care about what LA is / is not willing to pay Dozier? His stats throughout his career are good enough, but last year's career year puts the Twins in a spot to have a very good asset to help push a very need system wide rebuild. I'm looking towards the future on 2 different levels: A return of 1-2 starters that can fit into the rotations now. I'm not counting, or even hoping, on great success. I want them getting used to pitching against MLB hitters. And I'd want a couple more pitchers to back-fill the Twins MiLB.
  21. Santiago really hasn't shown much to keep him around, other than racking up innings. I think we can to better with less expense. Save the $8M and put it into development.
  22. Dodger's resign Turner and Jansen to include them in the Dozier trade instead of prospects. Clever devils......
