  1. Why our pitchers struggle with the stupid Yankees -- there is no power pitchers to zip anything by them. They have to get them out by nibbling or off-speed stuff that might fool them. The Yankees have been incredibly disciplined at the plate for YEARS and work the count over and over and over again. Gibson had the look of the pitcher who was on the defensive all nite -- trying to find the corners and trying to get the hitters to bite. The top 6 in that order won't go for that. Fien got the middle of the order in the 8th and he went after it and got 1-2-3. Jepsen had the bottom of the order and went after them and got 1-2-3. Perkins didn't have the oomph behind his fastball or the location to get it by anybody and he got whipped.
  2. As predictable as usual against those f'ing Yankees. It was just a question as to who was going to get the walkoff. Terrible at-bats against Betances and Miller (except for Sano) in the last 3 innings. Very poor management of the bullpen by Molitor. Unless he pitched too much over the weekend, then Jepsen should have been out there in the 10th. It's not like he had thrown many pitches in the 9th. Perkins forgot his Closer Disease meds and he went back to being terrible again. But another typical loss at Yankee Stadium to that P-O-S team. It's only surprising that it didn't end with a home run.
  3. Please get Gibson out of this game. Yankees don't swing at anything unless it's over the plate and he doesn't have the power to blow it by them. Keep nibbling and nibbling, they won't bite and then he's looking at constant 3-1 counts.
  4. Instant replay was enacted for idiots like Angel Hernandez. Why he is continued to be allowed the privilege to umpire Major League Baseball is beyond me.
  5. I'm not sure what we're doing with May in this outing but I'm not a fan of it. Not that it's gonna matter since we can't hit Kluber.
  6. Everyone did great on that Rosario play except the clown making the call. I've been umpiring HS games for 11 years and I'm not sure how you can have that great position and still kick the call. Thank goodness for replay in that situation.
  7. Twins won last night. STICK WITH THE RED!!!
  8. OK, front office, this Boyer guy was cute for like the first month and a half of the season. It's time to send him to the Winnipeg Goldeyes or whatever and clear a roster spot.
  9. I'm totally with you on that. But in Nunez's case, he was still a good 6 feet from the bag and there's not much wiggle room for that with the running lane is there. If he's a step from the bag, then there's more of a beef. From a home plate umpire's perspective (and that's his call), he's looking right down the baseline and he sees Nunez FAR outside the running lane and thus makes that call. It's always the first thing I'm asked if I happen to make that call.
  10. No one ever confused DJ Reyburn for a good umpire. It's not too difficult to have perfect positioning and look right at that play and see how easy of a call it is. Only thing I can think of is that he didn't think Plouffe made contact with his tag. As for the Nunez play, he can't be running that far inside the line. And with interference, you don't necessarily have to make contact or the catch need to be made...you just have to impede the play in order to be dinged for interference. Because he was so far inside the line too far from the base, it's actually a pretty easy call.
  11. I'm not a big fan of his at all but that was the right call on Nunez, unfortunately.
  12. Have to wait til the damn Yankees game is over before I can watch the Twins on the big screen thru Extra Innings. Time to fire up the computer...
  13. I like the Twins being aggressive in bringing up the kids that are supposed to be the cornerstones to the future of the franchise. Might as well give them a look at what they're going to be facing if they've done all they can do at the minor league level. I'm still concerned that the learning curve is a bit too much on a fast track but maybe that's me still having reservations from what they did with Hicks. We'll see. Definitely be worth tuning in tomorrow night to see how Sano starts out.
  14. If a Twins player hits 36 HR, I might eat my hat. Only way that's going to happen is if most of the damage is done on the road...or the Dome is miraculously rebuilt. We do remember that Target Field is where Twins homers go to die, right? I will have the pepper ready in preparation if I'm wrong (hat already has enough salt on it....I know...ewwwwww).
  15. Joel Sherman from MLB saying that Price will be traded by the deadline. Makes me wonder about the Rays commitment level to this year if they're gonna let him go. They've been pretty hot since mid-June, though they could use a bat or two to get them even further up the standings.
  16. If this group has any smarts, that had better be an 'over'. I'd put him in the rotation before Pino or Johnson right now.
  17. Milone for Fuld? Freakin brilliant. Milone not any good? I'll take 6-0, 2.61 ERA since early May over 3/5 of what we have in the starting staff right now. As for Mr. Moneyball, I guess it's much more important to win the free agent/trade races than to actually win playoff series.
  18. I'm not sure I'd trade my best major league talent (imo) for a rental in Lester. Moneyball's a fun concept and all but it hasn't exactly spelled out playoff success.
  19. Arcia definitely deserves his spot in the lineup. He provides power, speed, and a cannon arm in the outfield. However, he needs to learn some better plate discipline. Once he can gain that, he'll hit a lot better. Pitchers are baffling him with mostly off-speed and sinkers low and in that he waves at time and time again. I would never throw him a fastball anywhere near the zone because he likes to swing at the bad balls.
