  1. Because they obviously held onto the hope he could play SS, so they left him there. Players move from SS to 3B all of the time, its really not some huge adjustment that needs to be worked on at lower levels of the minor leagues.
  2. I'll take option 2. I'd also prefer Arcia at DH over Vargas
  3. Because Shortstops are more valuable than 3rd baseman? There is plenty to rip the Twins about, I'm failing to see anything wrong with keeping a guy at SS for as long as possible, before ultimately deciding its not going to work.
  4. Yeah so this just isn't true. League avg k/9 last year was 7.4, May was at 7.9 as a starter. 8.7 as a starter in 2014. As others have pointed out, most of his numbers include an unsustainable high babip. 1st time through the order (2015): .307/.331/.482 2nd time through the order: .291/.317/.410 3rd time through the order: .263/.337/.438 He also was improving, not counting the horrible outing in Milwaukee, these were his numbers from his last 5 starts; 30.1 innings, 6 runs, 30 K's, 9 walks
  5. His career Isolated slg% is .104 These are some other Twins career IsoSlg% Danny Santana - .123 Kurt Suzuki - .114 Eduardo Escobar - .136
  6. Then there is no reason to bring him up? I'm not sure why that's a question. If 5 members of the rotation are healthy and pitching really well throughout the 1st month of the season, I'll A) Be shocked and B- Wait to see Berrios is mid-May.
  7. Re: your "little pop" comment. Arcia hit 11 more Home runs in his age 22+23 seasons than 31 year old Sweeney has in his 9 year MLB career.
  8. The numbers look right, thinking the Twins will actually DFA a veteran guy like Suzuki made me LOL though. Even if he puts up those numbers, I bet he has at least as many, if not more at bats as Murphy by the end of the year.
  9. If they are holding him in AAA for 2.5 weeks for an extra year of control, I'm totally fine with it! It's the prudent move. My issue is going to be at the end of April, when half the rotation is scuffling and they still are refusing to bring him up
  10. It's actually 3-0.... Those 3 have all come since TR has had a team win a playoff game
  11. The Twins should give Arcia this season to see if the light comes back on, because he has a lot of talent in that bat, not because they are afraid of repeating the Ortiz mistake. Since Vargas has an option left there's no need to do anything with him yet. I don't see the talent there in his bat, and would be shocked if he ever comes back to haunt the Twins.
  12. No, I don't think they ever saw him as a starter this year. The other poster said he "had his chance and lost", which I think couldn't be further from the truth
  13. I think the question was; was he given an actual chance to be one of the 5 starters. The answer was no. I don't see why he couldn't have been given a real shot, and then moved to the pen if he "lost"
  14. If you are saying with a Starting rotation like KC you can win the World Series, you can't ignore with that rotation they coupled an elite defense. That matters. Maybe it would better to say, you can win the World Series without elite starting pitching if you get timely hitting, elite defense, elite bullpen, etc. Picking out Cueto's KC only stats is pretty convenient, but you said they did it with a bunch of 3-5's. He's not a 3-5. Ventura isn't either
  15. Cueto, Ventura, Volquez = Santana, Gibson, Hughes? I'll take that Royals 3... Kansas City also had an elite defense, the Twins are forcing Sano to RF
  16. Phil Hughes has actually been a very good reliever at one point. If they wouldn't have stupidly extended him with 2 years already left on his deal, he would be the one headed out there.
  17. Agree. I think it's likely Sano is the Twins 1st Baseman in 4 years, but there's zero reason to believe he will play even an inning there this season. 1B pecking order; Mauer Park Kepler Plouffe Vargas
  18. He can learn to count outs better (how many times has this happened in his career, once or twice?), but there's no one else on the roster who can learn to hit 25 home runs from the left side. As for not sprinting out pop ups or ground balls, 99% of players in baseball do that. The only thing I care about is that we see him jogging all the way around the bases multiple times this year.
  19. He was 22+23 years old, and his being "replacement level" had a lot to do with terrible defense... it's his bat that is worth keeping around. 2 weeks of Spring training results are meaningless. Considering this roster is largely void of Left handed hitters, especially power options... it would be absurd to give up on him right now. I would give him the entire season before deciding whether he's worth keeping around.
  20. The guy who posted an OPS+ of 100 at age 22, and 108 at age 23? And has hit 36 major league home runs before his 25th birthday, even with a lost season in there?
  21. The downside is that his roster spot in 2015 could have been used by someone who actually contributed to the team, allowed for a 12 man pitching staff instead of 13, etc. They were in the playoff hunt until the last weekend of the season... Guys like him are a dime a dozen, and regularly available
  22. You didn't answer my question. I still don't know who or what you are referring to. Did I think it was a wise baseball move to put Jason Bartlett on the Opening Day roster in 2014? No, because he didn't perform, wasn't an outfielder, and hadn't been a productive ML player in 5 years. Do I think any of the 13 near lock position players in 2016 should be sent down or released if they don't hit during a few week span this March? No (though I'm not the biggest D Santana fan and am not going to lose any sleep if they waivered him)
  23. See, I would say the plan along being option him to AAA this year makes it even WORSE. He's going to be 27 next season. Meyer, Burdi, Reed, Melotakis, Chargois, etc. I mean at what point is he even going to be a viable option in the bullpen? At least the plan was all along for Santana to start eventually.
  24. Good work Brock, but I see you didn't have an answer for this one... "He also has proven he is capable of providing sac flies when needed" - Re; Santana
