  1. Fair. Though I would add sometimes its the way they lose. The Jaguars lose as much as the Browns, but aren't quite the laughingstock like the Browns (because of the QB carousal in Cleveland). The Twins may not be quite the laughingstock had they not stubbornly continued to draft raw toolsy OFers, only to fail and develop them (I'm not including Buxton in this, he'll be fine), or draft pitch to contact pitchers, who fail to make the majors or get shelled when they do. There's a perception, and I wouldn't say its only because of the losing.
  2. Whether Meyer or Hicks are the Twins fault or not is probably a bit beyond the original point The Twins get ripped nationally not just because of 2 players like that, or the beginning of Buxton's career... but the greater whole... I mean who was the last starting pitcher the team drafted and developed and pitched multiple years in the Majors? Kyle Gibson Matt Garza Am I missing anyone? That is an organizational failure at some level, and why the national media talks about them that way
  3. Right or wrong, Meyer, Hicks, etc. were highly thought of by prospect evaluators, and the Twins. I don't think you can just give them a pass on those guys. Lack of developing any pitching? Drafting? I mean there are issues that go far beyond what Buxton has done in 350 at bats is my point
  4. He went to high school and college a few miles from Target Field, played for the Twins, ... I mean if that wasn't "familiarity", I don't know what is. I'll end this, you seem to agree with basically everything I have written, but didn't like the way I wrote it. It's a message board, believe it or not I'm working right now. I didn't go into detail in each bullet point, I wrote it in 3 minutes.. probably not constructive for either of us to continue bickering.
  5. They simply hired a person who had no experience but was familiar to them. You don't think the "country club" nature of this organization has played any role in the current struggles? Odd, because you suggested they hire from outside. So maybe you do see the "country club" as being a part of a systematic problem, but didn't like me calling it that.... Of course you understand everything I wrote and based on your list of ideas, agreed with it all... but in the future I will be sure to not say "country club"
  6. Who said "FIRE THE BAD PEOPLE!". Who said "fire Molitor"? You? I said, in the future they should; Hire a Manager who's experienced, not part of the Country Club
  7. You don't think targeting no upside veteran pitchers is a systematic issue? Its basically all they have done for 5+ years? If it failed 1 time its a mistake. It clearly is a philosophy. "stop playing it safe with mid rotation starters" - Stop signing vets with no upsde Cut bait and loyalty only goes so far? Kind of like "Try selling high at some point... For example, how many more years will Brian Dozier have good trade value?" "Sell high on players" - Kind of similar to "Stop signing players having a career year with multiple years of control left to extensions" "Bring in outside people" - "Do what other teams do" You basically said a lot of what I did, in different terms.
  8. Definitely way to early to close the book on Buxton. But that's really the only failure you could come up with? If that was the case don't you think this team would be in a little better spot? Alex Meyer? Eddie Rosario? (debatable, I know) Can't it be considered a failure that not one of the college relief pitchers drafted have helped the team yet? Aaron Hicks?
  9. I'm not sure I understand. The question was what should the organization do that they are not currently doing. I listed a bunch of examples Signing #4/5 veteran starters with limited to no upside is not a systematic issue plaguing this team and franchise?
  10. Our criteria might just be different - I don't consider the trade a success if Santiago is non-tendered (which I highly highly doubt was the plan when the deal was made) and $8 million is saved. You likely could've saved $4 million by picking up the rest of the contract and giving Nolasco away, and not had to sell extremely low on Meyer.
  11. I hope the Twins take a hint, from apparently no team wanting Suzuki at the deadline, and move on after the season. I'm on record of trying to sign Ramos, but even if they don't go that route, they can do better than Suzuki
  12. I don't know. But 6 years of control is pretty valuable, especially for a team that won't give multi-year contracts to relievers, therefore can't join free agency. And has a bullpen currently comprised of potentially their 3rd best starter (because they "NEEDED him" in the bullpen), Tommy Milone, and Buddy Boshers Does it make you feel better that the Pohlad's could potentially have that money though?
  13. Maybe it's the injuries, but man does Plouffe look like he's aged in a hurry. The range which was never great at 3B is practically non existent at this point. Anyone see the Springer single in the 7th off Tonkin, it was hit softly about 4 feet to Plouffe's left, he couldn't even get a glove on it. I think if he is non-tendered, which he should be... he'll have a very hard time getting a multi year contract, and would probably be looking in the $3-4 million range like Freese. He's becoming a borderline 3rd baseman, that might be better off at 1st sooner than later... and a platoon bat.
  14. I'm not saying you dismissed Meyer, many did though. And while I think its very unlikely he becomes a good starting pitcher, I don't think its unlikely at all he becomes a back-end bullpen guy. I realize one can be cut - but I'm not going to give credit to a trade where a potentially useful, even high end bullpen guy, was sold for $8 million.
  15. Try looking up some Football players to really show how stupid BMI is. Anthony Barr Height: 6 feet, 5 inches Weight: 255 pounds Your BMI is 30.2, indicating your weight is in the Obese category for adults of your height. http://prod.images.vikings.clubs.nflcdn.com/image-web/NFL/CDA/data/deployed/prod/VIKINGS/assets/images/imported/MIN/photos/clubimages/2014/09-September/tempatl-focus-093014-1-ck093014--nfl_mezz_1280_1024.jpg?width=960&height=720
  16. The rush to anoint him as a much better pitcher than Nolasco, and to completely dismiss Alex Meyer could look pretty silly in a couple of years.
  17. Well I don't think that's why the trade was made ( I don't think the current regime would non-tender), I do agree there's a decent chance the new GM will non-tender him
  18. Hire a Manager who's experienced, not part of the Country Club Stop signing veteran #4/5 starters and hope that fixes the pitching problem Consider defense (Suzuki C, Nunez SS, Sano RF... with a rotation that doesn't strike anyone out) Whatever is being done to develop minor leaguers... do something different Stop rushing hitters through AA/AAA, and at the same time stop moving Pitchers painfully slow through those levels. How is it possible Nick Burdi's younger brother reached AAA in his draft year, but Nick spent most of his time in Cedar Rapids? Stop handing out extensions multiple years before they are needed to players having a career year. Try selling high at some point... For example, how many more years will Brian Dozier have good trade value? Stop signing DH's... especially ones that can't actually hit. Do whatever the Cardinals, Giants, Cubs, etc. are doing And most importantly... release Danny Santana so the manager stops playing him.
  19. So 12 infielders/ outfielders, and 2 catchers? 11 man pitching staff?
  20. Not to mention, Schwarber missed 2016 with a torn ACL suffered in an outfield collision, certainly an odd example to use...
  21. Not much they can do, other than add it to the schedule... (teams/ broadcast partners regularly add games to tv schedule)
  22. Check out Archer's contract. Going to take WAYYY more than that. Wouldn't surprise me if it took more to get Archer than it will to get Sale
  23. Maybe a misunderstanding on my part then. All I'm trying to say is he's very unlikely to maintain his current success. Purely a guess on my part, but he probably saw a lot more strikes in the minors than he will in the Majors. Since his recall, 2 unintentional walks in 110 plate appearances, .425 BABIP....
  24. I agree with jimmer that he could be the perfect 4th outfielder. I think it's still too simple to look at his minor league OPS. Once he got to the upper levels of the minors he got exposed OPS by level Rookie- .953 Low A - .835 High A - .875 AA - .706 AAA - .798 (much better the 2nd time around in 2016)
  25. I agree some guys likely aren't ever going to walk, I also agree its debatable whether that's a teachable skill or not. We'll disagree on Rosario being successful with it. He hasn't really sniffed a .300 obp since 2013, outside of his couple months in Rochester this year, and the current BABIP fueled hot streak. I don't see him as being a big part of this teams future
