  1. He went to high school and college a few miles from Target Field, played for the Twins, ... I mean if that wasn't "familiarity", I don't know what is. I'll end this, you seem to agree with basically everything I have written, but didn't like the way I wrote it. It's a message board, believe it or not I'm working right now. I didn't go into detail in each bullet point, I wrote it in 3 minutes.. probably not constructive for either of us to continue bickering.
  2. They simply hired a person who had no experience but was familiar to them. You don't think the "country club" nature of this organization has played any role in the current struggles? Odd, because you suggested they hire from outside. So maybe you do see the "country club" as being a part of a systematic problem, but didn't like me calling it that.... Of course you understand everything I wrote and based on your list of ideas, agreed with it all... but in the future I will be sure to not say "country club"
  3. Who said "FIRE THE BAD PEOPLE!". Who said "fire Molitor"? You? I said, in the future they should; Hire a Manager who's experienced, not part of the Country Club
  4. You don't think targeting no upside veteran pitchers is a systematic issue? Its basically all they have done for 5+ years? If it failed 1 time its a mistake. It clearly is a philosophy. "stop playing it safe with mid rotation starters" - Stop signing vets with no upsde Cut bait and loyalty only goes so far? Kind of like "Try selling high at some point... For example, how many more years will Brian Dozier have good trade value?" "Sell high on players" - Kind of similar to "Stop signing players having a career year with multiple years of control left to extensions" "Bring in outside people" - "Do what other teams do" You basically said a lot of what I did, in different terms.
  5. I'm not sure I understand. The question was what should the organization do that they are not currently doing. I listed a bunch of examples Signing #4/5 veteran starters with limited to no upside is not a systematic issue plaguing this team and franchise?
  6. Our criteria might just be different - I don't consider the trade a success if Santiago is non-tendered (which I highly highly doubt was the plan when the deal was made) and $8 million is saved. You likely could've saved $4 million by picking up the rest of the contract and giving Nolasco away, and not had to sell extremely low on Meyer.
  7. I hope the Twins take a hint, from apparently no team wanting Suzuki at the deadline, and move on after the season. I'm on record of trying to sign Ramos, but even if they don't go that route, they can do better than Suzuki
  8. I don't know. But 6 years of control is pretty valuable, especially for a team that won't give multi-year contracts to relievers, therefore can't join free agency. And has a bullpen currently comprised of potentially their 3rd best starter (because they "NEEDED him" in the bullpen), Tommy Milone, and Buddy Boshers Does it make you feel better that the Pohlad's could potentially have that money though?
  9. I'm not saying you dismissed Meyer, many did though. And while I think its very unlikely he becomes a good starting pitcher, I don't think its unlikely at all he becomes a back-end bullpen guy. I realize one can be cut - but I'm not going to give credit to a trade where a potentially useful, even high end bullpen guy, was sold for $8 million.
  10. Try looking up some Football players to really show how stupid BMI is. Anthony Barr Height: 6 feet, 5 inches Weight: 255 pounds Your BMI is 30.2, indicating your weight is in the Obese category for adults of your height. http://prod.images.vikings.clubs.nflcdn.com/image-web/NFL/CDA/data/deployed/prod/VIKINGS/assets/images/imported/MIN/photos/clubimages/2014/09-September/tempatl-focus-093014-1-ck093014--nfl_mezz_1280_1024.jpg?width=960&height=720
  11. The rush to anoint him as a much better pitcher than Nolasco, and to completely dismiss Alex Meyer could look pretty silly in a couple of years.
  12. Well I don't think that's why the trade was made ( I don't think the current regime would non-tender), I do agree there's a decent chance the new GM will non-tender him
  13. Hire a Manager who's experienced, not part of the Country Club Stop signing veteran #4/5 starters and hope that fixes the pitching problem Consider defense (Suzuki C, Nunez SS, Sano RF... with a rotation that doesn't strike anyone out) Whatever is being done to develop minor leaguers... do something different Stop rushing hitters through AA/AAA, and at the same time stop moving Pitchers painfully slow through those levels. How is it possible Nick Burdi's younger brother reached AAA in his draft year, but Nick spent most of his time in Cedar Rapids? Stop handing out extensions multiple years before they are needed to players having a career year. Try selling high at some point... For example, how many more years will Brian Dozier have good trade value? Stop signing DH's... especially ones that can't actually hit. Do whatever the Cardinals, Giants, Cubs, etc. are doing And most importantly... release Danny Santana so the manager stops playing him.
  14. So 12 infielders/ outfielders, and 2 catchers? 11 man pitching staff?
  15. Not to mention, Schwarber missed 2016 with a torn ACL suffered in an outfield collision, certainly an odd example to use...
  16. Check out Archer's contract. Going to take WAYYY more than that. Wouldn't surprise me if it took more to get Archer than it will to get Sale
  17. Right, but that happened pretty early on in the offseason, so I'm just taking that as a given. That could've theoretically worked out ok if they had any notion of a plan beyond that (and if Park could hit a Major League fastball)
  18. I don't understand. Are you suggesting they should've traded Sano or Kepler, since they were the 2 most effected by keeping Plouffe? Why would they have done that? Plouffe isn't good.
  19. Plouffe Suzuki Milone Kintzler Return isn't really important *Not including Danny Santana because I don't want to get my hopes up
  20. For the 100th time, it wasn't about the market or what you could bring back. It was simply about opening a roster spot. The return didn't matter, it wouldn't be great because Plouffe isn't a great player. Him not being on the team (opening the door for Kepler in RF and Sano at 3B) was all that it was about
  21. Park and Vargas haven't proven to be Major League caliber hitters. Plouffe won't be back next season. I don't see a roster crunch. There will be room for Polanco via a Dozier trade, the new regime deciding he can play SS, or the new regime deciding Sano should DH.
  22. I forgot they did it with him. I was thinking Hicks + Arcia, didn't they both get that treatment?
  23. They'll punish him by sending him home at the end of Rochester's season, they've had such good results with that in the past
  24. To take this one further, this particular stint, and the one in the Majors back in April.. .it seems more like "7 plate appearances".. "only 1 hit and 3 strikeouts? back to the bench.".. over and over and over. Take being brand new the Majors, struggling with immensely high expectations and pressure, struggling, and then add in the fact you know if you go 0-3 you are back on the bench the next night.. Insanity. I know there were slight injuries, and don't recall when each one was. But July Game log Played 5 straight games, June 28-July 2 (5-20, 3xbh) Sat 2 games Played July 5 (2-3 bb, 2x2b) Sat Played July 7, Def replacement July 8 (1-4, bb) Sat July 9+10 Played 2 games Sat 1 Played 3 games Sat 1 Played 4 games Sat 1 Played 3 games, replacement in 1 Sat 3 Played 2 games Sat 2
  25. I have no doubt Brunansky has been working with Buxton this season, and I know were only privy to the information shared in the media.. but I can't be the only one who finds it curious just how little we hear about what they are working on with Buxton, etc. Seems like one of the top 3 storylines during a 90+ loss season would be all the time the hitting coach is spending with a bottoming out Buxton... but there has been just nothing.
