  1. I have liked how Shelty has managed the bullpen so far. But it is time to establish roles and stop trying the matchup game for every situation. You can move people out of roles after a while if they struggle. But we need some backend guys and let them get used to pitching in those situations. Even Shelty has mentioned he wants this, hopefully he will move quickly in this direction.
  2. To do list for the Twins Front Office-5/30 1. DFA Bell-Bring up Sabato, he can replace Bell on the 40 man. Bell is unplayable at 1B and does not hit enough to be a full time DH. 2. Call up Culpepper and option Gray to St. Paul. There is an open spot on the 40 man for Culpepper. 3. DFA Outman and swap him on both the 26 and 40 man roster with Fedko. He can be the 4th outfielder and play in CF with Martin for Buxton. 4. Strongly consider calling up Gonzalez and option Kreidler. Gonzalez can rotate at the corner OF spots and DH. 5. Give some consideration to calling up Ross for Arcia. I am not sure if Ross can play 3B, so not sure who would fill in for Lee when he needs a day off, even though I think Clemens could play there. This is one move that could be held off but would give some consideration. 6. Work with Shelton and have Clemens play as a late inning defensive replacement starting 2 or 3 days a week. 7. Call Scott Boras and find out what it will take to sign Jeffers to an extension. You can't go into next year with Caratini as your primary or top catcher being behind the plate for 80 to 100 games. However they would do the split without Jeffers. 8. Tom P., start the process of hiring a top baseball executive, ideal to have them in place by the end of July. But at a minimum you need someone hired by the end of the season. So they can set a course for the offseason to building a sustainable winning team. At a minimum bring in a senior adviser for Zoll to guide him until the hire is made. I am not in favor of Zoll making any big moves at the deadline either as buyer or seller. I think we need a fresh perspective and I am not sure he is much different than Falvey. This team has surprised by hanging around .500 but is that sustainable when 5 of your 13 position players should be the 26th man on the roster. Not your starting SS or every day player like Clemens. So these moves may not help winning this year but they need to find out what they have going forward. And it gets them younger and more athletic. I fully understand everyone of these players may not have success but let's find out what we have. We know what we have in the players I am suggesting moving on from and they are not going to substantially help us this year and definitely not next year. You find out where you need help or depth and where you may have excess or strength to deal from. Maybe you can avoid loading up on LH hitting corner outfielders this way. And they will not block the injured players when they are ready to come up. if they are playing well that would be a great problem to have. Players truly pushing for playing time because of performance. I know this got long but I have never been this frustrated with the direction or lack of direction from this team.
  3. I thought you were supposed to swing for the fences in this situation.
  4. Caratini is not a good catcher, and the plan is to have him as the number 1 catcher next year? We are getting a glimpse of what that will be like.
  5. If they truly consider this roster competitive, they should all be fired. They need reinforcements, why they don't do it is truly insane.
  6. An error by our all star shortstop, obviously no need for Culpepper.
  7. Culpepper just hit another home run. What are we waiting for, get him up here.
  8. Yes I was talking Keaschall, the answer can't always be the league caught up to these guys. How would 30 teams fill out their rosters if this was always the case,
  9. Why wait for next year, start evaluating what you have in St. Paul now so you know where you need upgrades for next year. Attebery had a great comment on the radio side tonight, he said it is hard to score run when you have at least three guys in your lineup who should be the 26th man on your roster. And what he didn't mention is that we have three guys sitting on the bench that should be the 26th man on your roster. So we basically wasting 5 roster spots. I am not bashing Clemens, I am bashing the Twins organization for this cluster of a roster that is forcing these guys to get regular playing time.
  10. At some point there is something off with the development of these players. Not every young player who comes up and has success should be going backwards. But that is happening with our young players. Yes baseball is a hard game, but players on other teams are figuring it out, why can't our players.
  11. He was a DFA pickup and is 30 years old with limited upside. He will go on a hot streak for 7 to 10 days, then you have to live the flyouts and strikeouts. No one else to this point in his career thought he would be beneficial as a starter to help their team. Let's try and raise the bar of expectations for this team.
  12. That's my point, if he is a starter then we are going nowhere. He is not a starter on a winning team, so put him in the role he should be and try to move this team forward. Or else, we will be in the same spot next year at this time not know who our first baseman is.
  13. Yes playing 2 to 3 days filling in as needed, that is his value, not playing every day. And he has not been a league average player in his career, but I would be fine with him as a role player.
  14. The White Sox had 8 players under 26 in their lineup yesterday, it seems to be working for them.
  15. In what way has he earned regular playing time, He had one good 7 day stretch which is his history. Can we maybe ask for more.
  16. In fairness to him, we do not know if he has been asked to play 1B or move off 3B, so everyone on here is speculating including myself.
  17. I don't think he has an attitude problem, I know he needs to probably keep his mouth quiet at times. But usually we complain when someone gives the cliche answers, he wears his heart on his sleeve. I personally would like a little more balance. Even when he was struggling, he seemed to be cheering on his teammates, genuinely happy when they made big plays and was always smiling. So I am not sure his teammates feel the same way even though we will never truly know.
  18. The whole roster construction is so out of whack. The two guys that are supposed to be up here as backups to Buxton don't play in the field for him. They treat Clemens as a core player, he needs to play 2-3 days a week. We still don't know completely what Martin can do, so I can live with his down streaks. But we do know what we have in Clemens, Gray, Kreidler, Arcia and Outman. I would just like to see some sort of plan, because if this their plan, then it isn't really a plan.
  19. The obsession with Clemens continues, hitting 3rd and playing CF. Again why are Kreidler and Outman even on the roster if you are going to play Clemens in CF. His OPS has dropped .70 points in the last ten days. He had his hot streak and now is coming back to reality.
  20. I would like to see more than 1 week, but if he keeps up this level of performance they are going to have to make a decision. Is it because of AAA pitching or is he ready to face major league pitchers again. He does appear to be more settled in the batter's box in the AB's I have seen. I still am wondering what happened after the injury, he was actually looking better at the plate and the results were there before he got hurt. How does he just fall off the table after only being out 10 days, that is just baffling. As far as changing positions, I think there are a lot of assumptions being made on here. I think the 2B move was mishandled and his actions afterwards showed he was open to it. But at some point you need to give him a position so he can try and master it. It feels like they never have committed to a position for Royce since they signed Correa. And yes he loses his leverage if he doesn't improve his hitting but I think the talent is there and hope it shows up with the Twins.
  21. Lewis has had just over 200 games at 3B, just over a season's worth, I would give him more time to improve his defense. Any lineup with Kreidler and or Gray as regulars is doomed to mediocrity.
  22. Who else do they have if Rojas is hurt and needs to go on the IL. Right now he is the 6th starter and there is no one ready in St. Paul. So we are stuck right now until some guys get healthy.
  23. This was a self inflicted wound that did not need to happen. They decided to push everybody back a day and than Rojas came up with the bad elbow, when their bullpen was already stretched. Sim is our 6th starter especially if Rojas ends up on the IL. They need to get some length out of guys in St. Paul to be ready if needed.
