  1. I'm saying the first year (2 million dollars plus the cost of training facilities and trainers, etc.) will yield no 2018 benefit, I have no stats to prove this, but it is my belief that many pitchers are cautious, or cautiously used, or just not ready. the first year back after TJ surgery (8 million dollars more plus a roster spot) which will be for 2019, Then the Twins must bid him good-bye, no matter whether he is a huge successor a huge disappointment. However if the Twins had a team option then the Twins would have a choice of keeping him if he should become a huge success in 2019 (which we all hope will happen) and he will merit pitching for the Twins in 2020, or letting him go with little or no buy out ,if his performance in 2019 is not worth a spot on the team.
  2. It looks like the Twins have signed a 10 million dollar reliever to pitch one year in 2019, with no options after 2019...his first year back from Tommy John surgery. I'm not impressed.
  3. One correction: The Twins do not get a healthy Pineda in 2019 for a modest $8 million. It will cost the Twins $10 million to get him for 2019. Whether that is a modest amount or not, I guess time will tell.
  4. I'd rather bite the bullet and get Archer complete with his strikeouts and his good 4 year contract. The Twins do not have any minor league pitchers who project to be as good as Archer has been. Even if you argue that 1 or 2 "might" be, you still have the word "might" in there. He is a bulldog on the mound.
  5. /Interesting article and charts. How would you rank the importance to a pitcher of the following: Control, movement, speed, a smart catcher who is the best pitch framer in the majors and who studies the hitters and can call a good game mixing up pitches and location, a gold glove center fielder, release points, endurance, health?
  6. H.alsey, Where have you been? It is good to see your post
  7. Thank you moderators. I must confess that I have been gently chided and guided several times...and I appreciate the gentleness of the nudges. You really are necessary for this site to succeed.
  8. Darvish is worth $25 million a year, or more, "if" his signing causes Ohtani to sign with Darvish's team. Santana is a switch hitter. Morrison is a lefty. Grab Santana and keep Sano at 3B. Buxton ®, Mauer (L), Santana (S), Dozier ®, Rosario (L), Sano ®, Kepler (L), Castro/Garver (L/R), Polanco (S). Keep Granite, Escobar, Gordon, and Grossman. That is a powerful offense.
  9. Great job Seth. Thank you! I wanted to select an all star team made up of the top ranked prospects based on your rankings. I was interested to see that of the top 25 players in your rankings, there were 4 OF, 6 middle infielders, 1 3B, 2 1B, 2 C, 6 RH SP, 2 LH SP, 1 RH RP, and 1 LH RP. This is a top 25 that is well balanced by positions. Even if I dropped the two lowest ranked middle infielders (Arreaz and Miranda) and substituted the 2 highest ranked pitchers after number 25 (Jax and Segers...I had to drop Rodriguiz since he is no longer with the Twins), we have a balanced, functional team. Congratulations to the front office for the balance of positions among our top prospects.
  10. The Twins no longer are headquartered at Lake Woebegone, where the hitters are strong, two of the numerous TV announcers are good looking, and the free agents are slightly above average.
  11. SD, if that is your real ID, thanks for the BS report. Let's keep this secret mission of TL on the QT so the NYY won't realize TL is BS'ing the NYY. (The scary part is that I kinda believe SD.)
  12. Best wishes to Mr. Park. The Twins and he gave it a shot and it didn't work out. Onward and upward!
  13. His dad, Randy, played basketball at UNC. Go Heels!
  14. Nice article.
  15. To bunt or not to bunt, that is the question.
  16. As a die hard Twins fan, I am very thankful for Twins Daily. Through Twins Daily I am connected to other Twins' fans, even though I live 1,120 miles away in North Carolina and have no local publications which write anything about the Twins. I felt some connection with Twins' fans through MLB.com...but MLB.com lacked the thoughtful analyses of TD and has a rough internet edge to it. TD feels more like a family to me. I have several "families". So this Thanksgiving, in addition to my family here in North Carolina and Maryland, and those who have passed, my work family at my law office, and my long ago army buddies who served with me in and along the Korean DMZ, I have added an additional family to be thankful for...I am thankful for my Twins Daily family. Thank you and happy Thanksgiving.
  17. Buxton is a human highlight show. He is the most exciting Twin I ever remember watching play. I hope his head is screwed on straight, because he is starting to attract national attention...and it is justified. My best advice to him is to watch and pay attention to Tony Oliva, Torii Hunter, Michael Cuddyer, Brian Dozier, Joe Mauer, Paul Molitor, Ervin Santana and James Rowson.
  18. I hope Nishi's scouts aren't the same ones who are so anxious to sign another player from Japan.
  19. When you say "American-born", are you referring to North America, South America, or Central America? I realize they are not 3 countries, but rather are made up of dozens of countries. I guess a better example would have been Nishi, who is also from Japan, and to my way of thinking, was one of the worst signing blunders by the Twins ever. But you know what, I'll give Nishi credit...he realized he was "out of his league" here in the USA and allowed the Twins to keep some of his contract money.
  20. Well, I may not be the biggest Twins' fan in NC (I still think I am), but I probably have been pulling for this franchise longer...since 1954, when I went to Griffith Stadium in DC with my brother and our grandfather. Saw Roy Seivers, Eddie Yost, Clint Courtney, Chuck Stobbs and Dean Stone. Of course the Senators lost to the Tigers that day, but it was the start of my love for the Senators/Twins. Top that, NCtwinsfan.
  21. Ted, I like the way you think.
  22. 2 Gold Gloves, a consensus Defensive Player of the Year, Manager of the Year. The thrill of the playoffs (albeit a quick thrill). Awesome. I really enjoyed the 2017 season. Thank you to the Twins organization from the biggest Twins fan in North Carolina. See you in Fort Myers in March.
  23. Relief is just a swallow away. The Twins should sign a free agent named Speedy, who has been out of work for a while now. He specializes in Fast Relief. His fastball is effervescent.
