  1. That sounds good. And if he responds with anything that rhymes with "canter mashia", tell him to shove it in his pipe.
  2. Also, thanks for the post. Fun read. Other than that plantar fascia talk. That should be in the pipe, burning.
  3. Now knock it off, Bob. Put that plantar fascia talk in your pipe and smoke it.
  4. Is this a new guy? I don't remember hearing much about him.
  5. Great, now I'm worried that Park won't be able to evade take-out slides at second base when he's turning the double play. I'm also worried that the next time I order bulgogi I'll get yakiniku. So many worries. So, so worried.
  6. I was also going to write something optimistic about Arcia's possibilities. Even if he just gets 300 ABs, 15 HR is a real possibility for him (assuming his ABs come against right-handers) - in his career against righties, he averages a HR every 17.1 AB.
  7. My opinions on your predictions. Miguel Sano: 35 - I'd put no money on this one way or another. Seems about right. Byung Ho Park: 30 - I'll take the under. Brian Dozier: 25 - I'll take the under. Trevor Plouffe: 20 - I'll take the under. Eduardo Escobar: 15 - I'll take the under. Eddie Rosario: 15 - I'll take the under. Byron Buxton: 15 - I'll take the under. Joe Mauer: 10 - I'll take the under. Kurt Suzuki: 5 - I'll take the under. Man, I must be a super pessimist today. I appreciate the write up. I just don't agree. edited - spelling
  8. Please remember, too, that from Little League through Babe Ruth I played every position. (If you want to include beer league softball, you can also add in Rover, but no one should take my softball career as seriously as my Little League through Babe Ruth career). I only was Catcher or Pitcher a few times though, and not too much at 1B or CF, but I did give it a try. Predominantly, I was a 2B, 3B, or corner outfielder, filling in at SS, too. Therefore, it won't be an issue for Sano. On a totally unrelated note, I played the tuba, but would occasionally grab a trombone and eventually learned how to play a basic scale all on my own. So again...no problem switching things up, so Sano should be just fine.
  9. Arcia, career (as a 22, 23, and 24 year old) versus right-handed pitching: .250/.322/.485 - OPS .807 1 HR every 17.1 AB That's good enough reason to me to keep him around and trot him out there on occasion with a right hander on the hump. El Jardinero!
  10. Oh sure, point out the truth. Yeah, context is always important. It just struck me as odd when the terms he used are the preferred terms. Like, take out the adjectives and it's just weird, not a slur, right? Or is it still a slur because he was angry when he said it, so we can assume that it was intended as a negative? Or is it a slur because the guy was actually an American of Cuban descent, not Cuban? Or Puerto Rican but wearing a shirt that said, "Kiss me, I'm Cuban"? Oh great, here I go again, asking more non-strangling questions! I just like thoughtful discussions and exchanges. Thanks for sharing yours.
  11. I don't know. I always assumed "racial slur" or "ethnic slur" meant the slur was the race/ethnic terminology itself, not the adjectives surrounding the race terminology. If someone said "you dumb African American" or "you dumb Australian" or "you dumb Trinidadian", are those all slurs? Totally a sidebar to the original point that Delmon Young has a history of making poor choices. And strangling someone seems (to me) like it should be the focus of this particular bad choice.
  12. Buxton in CF, Rosario in LF, RF rotating door depending on who is pitching and who else is playing where. RF might be Sano regularly based on what the team keeps saying, but I can't bring myself to type that in there just yet because it seems like such a weird thing to me. Arcia will have some RF days and some DH days, hopefully to crush the living poo out of baseballs thrown by right handed pitchers. Danny Santana will be in the OF on occasion, too, hopefully not showing last year's .532 OPS.
  13. Not to pick nits, but where is the racial slur? Calling someone Cuban or Latin is hardly a slur, is it? Anyway, more bad choices.
  14. To steal signs from the 2011 White Sox. Duh. Use your head.
  15. As a further pile on to the "it can happen to anyone" line, I had double bypass in January 2015 at the ripe old age of 44. It's not fun, so avoid it if you can. And you can. Get your hearts checked (especially if you have family history of heart issues or high cholesterol/triglycerides), exercise 5-6 times a week (a brisk 30 minute walk will do fine), and take a look at your diet (eat real food, not too much, mostly plants). 16. I'm familiar with David Cone. I just assumed you meant Wells because you used the phrase "sneaky lefty", and told the reader to think of (lefty) Jimmy Key and (righty) David Cone. I plead confusion and retract my earlier attempt at correction. I stick with my enthusiasm for a possible Jimmy Key-like result.
  17. Assume you meant Wells. Also, I loved Jimmy Key, so I hope Gonsalves becomes Jimmy Key.
  18. Another good one. Thanks for the regularity of these articles - they are some of my favorite things to read on TwinsDaily.
  19. I also don't think it would be a horrible thing to have a policy that allowed medically supervised use of various drugs to recover from injuries. I'd be in favor of something that allowed it when a player is put on the DL, and that enforced even longer/more severe suspensions for use outside of allowed recovery times.
  20. I figured I'd look up last year's stats so we don't have to rely on our memories and personal biases one way or the other that go with those memories. Here are the data from Trevor May and Tommy Milones' starts in 2015. Obviously, this isn't a whole lot of data to go by, but it's something to look at. My interpretation is that Milone might have a slight advantage in the pitching deeper, but not overwhelmingly so, and probably not nearly enough in scale (or sample size) to say significantly so. If you go by average innings per start, May was 5.21 (not quite 5 innings + 1 out), Milone was 5.55 (not quite 5 innings + 2 outs). 2015 May 16 Games Started Times Pitched Into or Through a given inning 1st - 1 (6.25% of starts) 2nd - 0 3rd - 1 (6.25% - the "stretch out" game after being in the bullpen) 4th - 2 (12.5%) 5th - 1 (6.25%) 6th - 7 (43.75%) 7th - 4 (25%) 8th - 0 9th - 0 Milone 23 Games Started Times Pitched Into or Through a given inning 1st - 0 2nd - 1 (4.35%) 3rd - 1 (4.35%) 4th - 1 (4.35%) 5th - 3 (13.04%) 6th - 9 (39.13%) 7th - 7 (30.43%) 8th - 1 (4.35%) 9th - 0
