  1. Updated statistics through July 4th: 303 PA, .267/.323/.596, 18 doubles, two triples, 23 homers, 22 walks, 113 strikeouts, two steals, and two times caught stealing. The .919 OPS is probably about 100 points higher than most optimistic predictions out there for Walker this year. Everything else has played out as expected. Walker is having a fantastic year. He has jumped into my top 10 prospects.
  2. Michael Tonkin struck out eight in three innings for Rochester tonight. What is that dude's deal?
  3. Seth, what was behind the release of Jack Barrie? I struck out big on Barrie and Kuresa being bright spots in the low levels this year . . . I think Burdi's demotion is bizarre.
  4. And yes, I am pro trading Torii Hunter. Don't hate me for that. If you don't like that then remove Nunez from the above list.
  5. The rest of the season should be about figuring out the 11 best pitchers to bring into the playoffs and the 14 best position players to bring too. This in no way hurts 2016, in fact, I think the push for the best 25 (11/14) for the playoffs overlaps significantly with developing for 2016. In no way does Shane Robinson fit. In no way does Brian Duensing fit. Unfortunately, Aaron Thompson doesn't fit either and that leaves a lefty void. Thielbar is likely not going to fill that. Neither is Ryan O'Rourke (door was WIDE open for him this year . . . ). I have to think a shift to the AAA bullpen for Taylor Rogers would be good for a few weeks and then promote him. Maybe see if Jason Wheeler can be a better pitcher out of the bullpen too. With Buxton out for now, Shane Robinson being of no present or future use, and Arcia and Hicks back healthy, the answer seems pretty obvious. Polanco for Santana is also obvious. Kepler can get a chance by August perhaps. Maybe the roster ends up: Suzuki, Pinto/Herrmann, Mauer, Dozier, Polanco, Plouffe, Sano, Nunez, Rosario, Buxton, Hicks, Arcia, Escobar, Vargas Hughes, Santana, Gibson, May, Pelfrey, Meyer, Milone, Rogers, Jones, Berrios, Perkins I know that is quite a pitching staff shakeup, and Pelfrey and Milone should be traded off too (with Fien .. . . ).
  6. I am going to be dealing with a move over the next 6 days, so I won't be able to update my prospects until Thursday, of next week, probably. Anyone is free to do so over the next week.
  7. I am relieved, though, that it is clearly the case that Stewart is just out of the top 10.
  8. I wasn't even thinking about Jay. That seems pretty high for him too, honestly! Kepler at 9 is a ridiculously high standard.
  9. Yes to Rogers. Also, suppose the playoffs happen. Rogers is certainly one of the 11 guys I would have on staff.
  10. Forget Kepler . . . is Kohl Stewart actually being ranked higher than Gonsalves here? Stewart, Polanco, Berrios, Sano, and Buxton are left, right?
  11. The real LOOGY in the upper system is Ryan O'Rourke. He cannot be exposed to RH, though. Thielbar isn't inspiring, but he is the necessary replacement for Duensing. Thompson did his job well through May and was overused.
  12. Anyone who doesn't think that Joe Mauer returning to 90% or so Joe Mauer form is a key element to the Twins success in 2015 and 2016 (at least) needs a head examination. The last two weeks are encouraging.
  13. Elvis Andrus' contract is the worst in baseball now, right?
  14. Addendum: moving Meyer to the bullpen for now was the right move. But not there is no reason for those bullpen innings to be in AAA instead of MLB.
  15. Oliveros and Meyer are the two guys who should be next in the bullpen. After that, maybe Achter, but certainly Zach Jones. And if Ryan O'Rourke stays on course after a rough start to the season, I think he is the next lefty. Duensing is done. Thompson served the Twins well but now that is over. Tonkin should get an actual extended chance for once in his career. Next to watch go downhill is Boyer, certainly. Please do not TRADE for a bullpen arm right now. One bullpen arm is not going to make this a playoff team.
  16. Oliveros was back in the bullpen tonight after another horrific start (he didn't record an out) on the 12th. Hopefully that is finally done. We'll see how long Blaine Boyer lasts.
  17. No way a blockbuster like this could or should happen within the division.
  18. Sorry, I didn't mean trade him today. I meant--barring injury to someone else after Ervin starts pitching--in three to five weeks up until the deadline. It's a matter of Hughes-Santana-Gibson-May and Nolasco/Pelfrey/Milone. Two of the last three are tradeable and there are options for depth in Rogers, Duffey, and Berrios.
  19. 78.2 IP and the love for Mike Pelfrey is so rampant around here. FIP at right about career numbers. Trade him.
  20. I would trade Milone and Pelfrey for two C+ prospects (think 30-ish on Twins lists) who are in A ball or lower.
  21. I mean . . . just have a housing and meals program that takes care of these things for them? If you have ever had the stress of rent costs and paycheck to paycheck living you will understand . . . but this is often without a college degree and certainly without any guarantees of ever getting even AA and AAA contracts.
  22. They do when they come down for rehab assignments and whatnot.
  23. I cannot for the life of me understand how a business (and I get disgusted when I refer to the Twins as one) would make its human investments struggle like this. This is worse treatment than fast food employees get.
  24. Walker is putting up elite numbers now, there is no disputing it. And no getting around a solid prospect list climb and a big "simmer down" to those who have doubted his ability to mash in AA once he got there. He got to AA and he has exploded.
