  1. Here are a bunch of players who could see a promotion in the second half. I certainly do not think all of them will and there are likely a few others who will be promoted, but it is my intention to point out some strong performances, even in limited time in some cases. A few of them are likely very soon (Rhodes, Roberts, Atherton, Bromberg) and many others are most likely early August moves if they happen at all. DSL to GCL: Adonis Pacheco, OF Ernesto Ciprian, OF Junior Subero, SP Javier Vargas, SP/RP GCL to ELZ: Dereck Rodriguez, OF Aderlin Mejia, SS Kuo Hua Lo, SP ELZ to BEL: Romy Jimenez, OF Rory Rhodes, 1B Niko Goodrum, SS Jonatan Arias, C Taylor Rogers, SP Dallas Gallant, RP BEL to FTM: Eddie Rosario 2B/CF Miguel Sano 3B Matthew Koch, C Nate Roberts, OF Steven Liddle 1B/OF David Hurlbut, RP Tyler Jones, SP/RP Tim Atherton, RP FTM to NBR: Daniel Ortz, OF Jairo Perez, 3B Josmil Pinto, C Ricky Bowen, RP Matthew Hauser, RP/SP Jose Gonzalez, RP NBR to ROC: Chris Herrmann, C Aaron Hicks, OF Evan Bigley, OF Chris Colabello, 1B Deibinson Romero, 3B Andrew Albers, SP/RP Steve Hirschfeld, SP David Bromberg, SP ROC to TWINS: Sam Deduno Sean Burroughs Deolis Guerra Anthony Slama (pending return)
  2. All I remember in most cases were "rumors" bandied about by the "access" journalists. And then one time the camera caught Slowey yawning in the bullpen and Blyleven lit into him with no class whatsoever.
  3. Top 20 pitcher is really the question. To me, outside of that possibility or perhaps a good established major league pitcher right now and a lower prospect, I don't really even think about trading Span.
  4. 1B and DH are in the future . . .
  5. I would think most likely between Sept. 1, 2013 and June 2, 2014. That's still pretty aggressive (for the Twins). Hopefully, they give him a few hundred at bats (at least) in AAA before using him in a bench role for the Twins . . . .
  6. Regardless of the Mariners particular case, perhaps opening the field of candidates up might not be a bad idea given the friendliness of Span's contract in the future. Teams like the Padres, Brewers, and Athletics might be interested in becoming relevant again soon.
  7. I didn't see anyone listed for DSL so that is the main reason I excluded them. I don't know what "restricted" means in that situation.
  8. Thanks for that. I was mainly looking forward, but that Griffey contract was horrendous. Carl Crawford better get it together!
  9. I thought it might be good to have a one-stop place for people to see who is on the DL throughout the system. Furthermore, this would be a good place for updates on injuries, timetables, etc. Minnesota: 60-day DL: Scott Baker 15-day DL: Matt Capps, Carl Pavano, P.J. Walters Rochester: 7-day DL: Kyle Gibson, Carlos Gutierrez, Matt Maloney, Lester Oliveros, Anthony Slama New Britain: 7-day DL: Andrew Albers, Alex Wimmers, Joe Benson, Rene Tosoni Fort Myers: 7-day DL: Jhon Garcia, Adrian Salcedo (rehab in GCL?), Manuel Soliman Beloit: 7-day DL: Matt Tomshaw, Eddie Rosario Elizabethon: 7-day DL: J.T. Chargois, Tyler Duffey, Kelvin Mention GCL Twins: 7-day DL: Jake Proctor
  10. Is Clete Thomas really worth keeping Evan Bigley in AA right now?
  11. A: The notion that AAA is the place for washed up vets, if that is the Twins' view, is stupid. B: Parmelee's production in AAA was great in 60 PA. That is a very small sample. He needs to be playing there to actually see if he can build off of his NOT great AA numbers. Have people forgotten that he was merely good at AA last year? What in the hell!? C: "I think they should recall a starter and banish Blackburn to the bullpen, while sending Parmelee to Rochester." --This is probably correct. I was just assuming that Gardenhire is all demando about a left-handed bat on the bench. So . . . Sam Deduno would be the guy, probably. Wow.
  12. Chris Parmelee has had 112 plate appearances with the Twins (.190/.277/.290) and 60 plate appearances in Rochester (.375/.500/.708). Sean Burroughs: 18 plate appearances with the Twins (too small of a sample to post numbers) and 175 plate appearances in Rochester (.288/.333/.362). Yes, Burroughs has come to the plate 21 more times this year than Parmelee. I just cannot understand this kind of treatment of a prospect who obviously could have used 200+ plate appearances in Rochester this year so far. And Burroughs is just the main LH option. Matt Carson would be another player to compare Parmelee to.
  13. Casilla turns 28 in a few weeks and has been in the majors for 6 seasons. His offensive numbers are almost as bad as they have ever been.
  14. No one will trade for Jeff Gray. Pitchers of that quality are quite easily found in AAA or on the waiver wire. No one will take on Blackburn's ridiculous contract, even at one remaining stupid year! He is now the worst starter in baseball! As far as Casilla goes . . . . PATIENCE! How many years does he need? This is his 6th year. He is soon turning 28. In limited time in 2010, he was good. In 2008 he was pretty good. The second half of last season he was pretty good. Other than these spots, he has been Luis Rivasesque. And he will be set to make about $2 million next year. He is the definition of a replaceable player . . . replaced with a $480k guy like Florimon. Valencia's 2010 numbers and his 2011 bit of power (and his pre 2012 excellence against lefties) still makes him mildly valuable for a team looking for an MLB player to fill a particular role (you know, teams with very good rosters and one little situational hole). I am not sure what the Twins would get back, but there is no point keeping either one of them. A hard thrower with moderate control at any level of baseball would be worth each of them.
  15. Those mentioned other than Dunn are bad, but they are close to done. I would have to look at the other $100 million contracts to judge that, Seth. Prince Fielder is probably going to be excellent for 5 years yet, and good for another 3 after that . . . Zimmerman's combines declining performance with 7 more years after this one!
  16. I am hoping that the Twins will at least be able to get some kind of value back for these two players, the first with almost certainly no future (aside from that platoon thing involving Mor . . . ) with the Twins, and the second with likely no future with the Twins. Only a team desperate due to lack of production at 3B or 2B is likely going to bother (aside from those teams with an extra roster spot for a pinch-hitter vs. lefties in the playoffs or a pinch-runner late in games in the playoffs). The Nationals have problems at 3B and 2B, with Ryan Zimmerman struggling and Danny Espinosa being terrible. Valencia or Casilla would only be motivation for these starters to get their acts together. The Phillies are rapidly falling, so I don't know if they would bother. Polanco looks to be about done, though. The two most likely target may be the Giants, primarily at 2B with the worst than lackluster performances of Ryan Theriot and Emmanuel Burriss. But those two are also 3B depth for the Giants as well, so Valencia might be in the picture there too. Robert Andino is not very good for the Orioles, so both Valencia and Casilla may be appealing to Baltimore if that team can keep it together in July. So hopefully someone will bite on Casilla and hopefully Valencia starts even hitting like he did last year for the Twins at Rochester.
  17. So much blathering about Joe Mauer, but . . . I forgot how ridiculous Ryan Zimmerman's contract is. After getting paid $12 million this year, he gets $14 million per for the next six years and then $18 million at age 34 before the team option in 2020. Good lord. His OPS decline .101 from 2010-2011 and ANOTHER .130 drop this year. He is at .668 right now.
  18. And I cannot get my head around the notion that Denard Span is blocking Chris Parmelee. That's absurd. Chris Parmelee needs to actually perform well SOMEWHERE for an extended period of time this year before he should be appointed the next anything. He should have about 150 more PAs at Rochester by now, but alas . . .
  19. The Twins offense has turned around not simply because Ben Revere and Trevor Plouffe have been such fantastic performers (with the 3 and 4 hitters too, obviously). Just as much has to do with Span and Revere at the top together with .350 OBP. Even if Revere can "replace" Span, that doesn't mean that it is a good idea to mess with the top of the lineup, especially with no Joe Benson involved in the OF picture until probably 2014. If it was guaranteed by Gardy (!!) that Mauer would move up to the second spot and the whole lineup would just shift up, that might be one thing. But who knows if we wouldn't see Carroll/Casilla/Dozier batting there instead as Gardy goes with his "heart" or "gut" or whatever, instead of a simple statistic like OBP.
  20. As in creepin' up statistically. Finally. I hope that he gets it going enough the rest of the year so that starting 2013 in New Britain makes sense for him.
  21. 1. Yuck. The Chicago White Sox will win the AL Central at 86-76. 2. The Twins will finish 80-82. 3. New uniforms for Capps, Pavano, Burton, and Casilla. Danny Valencia will be traded as well. 4. The Cincinnati Reds with defeat the New York Yankees to win the World Series.
  22. I like this better than reading "Span" as in a new uniform after the deadline.
  23. He will be a first baseman and there is no reason to have him consider anything else. If they want to move him to LF first, that's fine.
  24. An incentive-laden deal is the only choice to be made. $1.5 million base out of charity, maybe. Up to $4 million depending on IP and performance.
  25. Interesting as I definitely would have taken him if I noticed he was still available! He must be moving up soon. They could probably even push Ortiz up if they needed to.
