  1. Well, yes, but at the very least it means that Carroll--as a regular or not--should *for sure* be in the lineup when one of those two is out of it. But there's that TERRIBLE $2 million they might owe Carroll, you know! (dripping, wild, delirious sarcasm).
  2. Um, and obviously when Hicks sits, Carroll leads off. This isn't such a bad scenario for the lineup: each time Hicks or Mauer gets a day off, Florimon also sits and Carroll is added into the lineup to mitigate some of the drop in offense (basically each time Mauer sits against a lefty--and he should sit a bit more this year--Carroll and Mastro are inserted and Willingham DHs.)
  3. The first inning is the inning where the most runs are scored, correct? This is likely due to the fact that it is the one inning that is a manager can have total control over the batting order (and maybe pitchers just sorta suck a bit until they are fully loose???), so what is the best lineup for maximizing the possibility of run production in the first inning? .350+ OBP guys (leadoff can be slightly less if he can gain a base via a steal) in the first two spots and sluggers behind them. Hicks, Carroll, and Mauer are the only three guys I am comfortable having in the 1-2 spots. Willingham, Morneau, and Doumit following some two of those three makes me happy about the lineup. Note: this would seem to mean (sans a Dozier or Parmelee OBP outburst) that if Mauer is out of the lineup, Jamey Carroll is in it.
  4. I will just be optimistic and say Colabello or Herrmann, for players, and Hernandez or Walters (or maybe Watts or Pugh, but I don't worry too much about the 'pen at the moment).
  5. I am surprised that people care about this. He was very lucky last year to not be shelled *a lot.*
  6. I saw that, but that isn't the Twins org. (Gardy) posting that. It's a projection by whoever was charged with doing it for the Twins MLB site. There's still hope.
  7. Burnett is not going to last long in the majors.
  8. Dozier cannot bat second. There is no reason to do that, but I am sure Gardy will say something about "balance" in the lineup. Which is just plain stupid. If Dozier is worthy, in Gardy's eyes, of batting second, then putting him 8th instead seems like a more "balanced" approach.
  9. Roenicke instead of Slama, Mastro instead of Boggs (oversight), and Ramirez decision made. Looks good to me.
  10. Dan Haren signed a mere one-year deal just to make big with the Twins next year . . . Obviously Morneau is the big factor with regard to whether payroll is up or down. He will cost 5ish million at the deadline and Willingham will cost 10ish over 1.3 years. I have a hard time believing that the Red Sox won't throw money at one *or both* of them if they each have good seasons this year. That said, keeping Willingham as the DH for 2014 sounds good too.
  11. Worley is the best non-Diamond, non-Gibson starter around the organization right now.
  12. Haha. If 2013 is a joke, why EVER add nonsense like this to your roster? Just play young guys.
  13. First of all, I am FASCINATED by the obsession around here with Carroll and that $2 million next year. WHO CARES!? $2 million for a 2014 utility infielder is really not terrible. I laugh every time I see this strange obsession manifest itself. Second, why on earth should they add aging mediocrity to the middle infield? Florimon is NOT going to be as terrible as you all somehow hope he is. Also, Cedeno is not good AT ALL. One might as well just throw Ray Olmedo up there. It's the same result (both dumb). Third, I cannot fathom why anyone wants to add more mediocre aging nonsense to the Twins middle infield. That is generally YOUR complaint about Carroll in the first place!
  14. Even at my most drunk, I still follow the rules around here . . .
  15. He will end at New Britain and that is all that matters. He will be added to the 40-man roster.
  16. Dozier is clearly a second baseman. Watch him after his first 10-15 games at short last yea--he starts to no charge properly and takes a scared approach to the ball. He has fixed that as a second baseman. He is the viable option for the coming year. Keep in mind that he should be more comfortable in his defense so that should affect his confidence at the plate.
  17. The Vikings would be better off signing Michael Turner in a backup role and the drafting defensively after the one WR pick in the first round. I am serious. Turner still has legitimate power as a back and would totally screw defenses up. The Wishbone could re-emerge. The Niners brought it back. Backing up AP with Turner after the Jennings signing might be the best idea. Jennings, Rudolph, AP, and Turner means 4 legit players. Just sayin.
  18. Let's calm all the homies down. There are plenty of approaches to take: 1: Start Mastroianni/Boggs at CF and delay on Hicks and Benson as they partake in AAA awesomeness. 2. Start Hicks (most likely scenario) and have Mastro as the 4th OF. Maybe even Ramirez as the fifth OF. This means that Benson, imagine this, should get some AAA batting time. Imagine that. They wrongly demoted him last year to AA in an abominably stupid move. So why not just give Benson the 3-spot in the Rochester order for awhile before relegating him to 4th OF status? Clearly the floor is 4th OF: this guy is better than Mastro by a significant margin. Full stop. But that 4th OF option isn't really going to happen immediately. The 2013 could rightly end with Benson-Hicks-Arcia manning the OF.
  19. He will be with the Twins in 2013 at some point. Hopefully it's not due to sustained injury for anybody. The time is NOW to use Colabello as a bench bat.
  20. Point is: It is probably good to promote from AA to AAA and then MLB. There's value in that. I have started threads about the worth of AAA experience. Maybe it doesn't apply to Hicks since the overall defense is THAT stellar.
  21. That's cool, but I think it messes with people if they have been essentially promoted from AA to the big leagues and then sent down to AAA and then back up. See Revere 2011, Parmelee and Dozier 2012.
  22. Let's keep in mind that a Benson-Hicks-Arcia OF at the end of the year could mean a big haul in trades at the deadline. I have a hard time believing that Willingham and Morneau wouldn't bring back Span-Revere like returns. Add Parmelee into that mix and it could be Span-Revere-Liriano trade returns (assuming Parm has a good year). There are things that happen as a chain reaction (I am about chain reactions and player development around here). Adding legit pitchers could mean that even the naysayers about Trevor May could be right in that maybe his future ends up in the bullpen. That is maybe another year of Twins trades brings in more pitching prospects and so May becomes a setup-closer option instead of a starter. (Note: that is why I like Hudson Boyd draft selections more than college reliever selections--draft starters to convert into relievers if you have to--Nick Wittgren aside--that would have been a good pick instead of that ass who didn't sign).
  23. Ok, so I am not sure who you were responding to, but you do make a good point whether or not you meant it as such. My worries about Doziering or Parmleeing Hicks don't apply really since the dude has been MLB ready defensively since 2011 probably. I do think that in Dozier's case that as soon as he started struggling defensively, it messed with him offensively. In Hicks' case, that isn't the issue. And Parmelee is just not a good defensive option anywhere. So the comparison doesn't hold fully. I still want the Twins to handle Hicks correctly this year.
  24. This is the issue (forget service time). There should not be a repeat of Dozier 2012 (or Parmelee 2012, for that matter). Stick with him or wait awhile. Another guy going back and forth between AAA and the Twins is NOT good.
  25. Does anyone actually have argument about "the book" instead of basically reciting the "old book" about lineups?
