  1. Also, Chris Parmelee is a better OF defender than one might expect, at least with respect to not being clumsy and awkward. Can the Twins just start converting potential non-MLB material players to extra coaches so Parm can get Arcia to not be so Delmonesque out there?
  2. Also, anyone see extended Arcia time in the OF in the minors? Is it the SAME as what we are seeing with the Twins? If so, then it is probably fairly doomed. If not, then there is hope.
  3. Doesn't jumping rope help reduce clumsiness? I read that somewhere on the internets. Maybe we should see Oswaldo jumping rope between innings. I'm only half-joking here.
  4. I kind of like the idea of having two people in the bullpen who shift between long relief and LOOGY/ROOGY (ha) depending on the situation. Enter Andrew Albers and Liam Hendriks. I am also willing to try just about anything out of the gates in 2014. Four outfielders? Perkins and Burton pitching the first inning back and forth? Starting the DSL team as the Twins team? Smoking crack?
  5. Just get your ass to the Big Leagues, Buxton!
  6. As a little leaguer, my coaches drilled into me the idea of always taking an initial step back if not clearly judging the ball properly. I wonder if playing shallow and doing something like that mitigates the potential problems of playing so shallow. Or maybe it was because we were dumb kids and that's the best option. Anyway, that Denard quote cracks me up.
  7. How many games are left now? How about a damn different starting pitcher for each of them? It's like when bars have those "drink X number of different beers and get a t-shirt" things. Can we get some t-shirts out of the deal?
  8. By the way, my above posts about Hendriks might be the most least-committal posts I have ever made at TD. His accent makes me laugh so that might sway me.
  9. John McCain and Liam Hendriks.
  10. Colabello, Parmelee, and Plouffe make sense as platoon players going forward. I still think that Colabello's power numbers are worth another look. We are such a damn impatient bunch, aren't we? Smart phones and whatnot ruin our minds. What to expect from ROOKIES like Hicks, Colabello, Arcia, and Gibson? Dominance? What? Everyone needs to calm down. Let the youth play and deal with it. Since Gardy doesn't like it. Send him away. Anderson too. These are *obvious* decisions to make.
  11. Dear G-O-D. If this team has Willingham to open 2014 blocking Arcia, this team has other problems. Those two can no longer be on the same roster. The guy gone is obvious. In 2014 I couldn't care less about who mans LF or RF pre-Buxton's involvement. Parmelee should probably learn to play LF so Arcia can be in RF. Or instead of Parm there is Herrmann. The real issue is past 2014 into 2015. It has now become apparent that given the sudden dearth of OF prospects who are really ready, that an OF of ROSARIO, Buxton, and Hicks might be in order for 2015 (If Dozier moves to SS, moot point). Arcia down the road is going to have other players to contend with at the DH spot anyway. Give HIM TIME to learn LF or RF more properly. There is no damn hurry.
  12. He can pass through waivers and be in Rochester. Or they can keep him on the 40-man. I didn't look at the 40-man again before making my claim that they should drop him from it. Now that I look at it, good god. There is actually no way that they shouldn't keep him in some capacity. Look, I have to say: if you believe Rick Anderson is a pitching coach worthy of a job, I have a Brooklyn Bridge to sell you. He needs to go away before there are such decisions made. Hendriks is either in the bullpen or gets another chance with a pitching coach is actually capable. What I mean is that if this PC is still in the org and not properly fired *today* then Hendriks is one of several who will need to go away. If this PC is gone, then find a way to give the younger guys another opportunity.
  13. He was dialing it up to 94. Maybe in the bullpen that becomes regular 93-95.
  14. I would either trade him or move him into 7th inning action after trading Burton and letting Fien walk.
  15. And "relief pitcher" isn't a terrible idea.
  16. I would not keep him on the 40-man roster. I don't know what else to do with him. It was frustrating Monday because he hit 94 at least once. I don't remember EVER seeing that from him. He was consistently at 92. But it was rather straight and it was also the only pitch he could throw for a strike. They took every breaking ball for a ball. I don't know if I am exaggerating at all there. And they kept trying to throw the damn thing on almost every other pitch. The Dunn smash to just under the yellow line and into Presley's glove was the only true well-hit ball. But missed bats? Almost none. They fouled off every good fastball he threw and then blooped or "duck snorted" (as Hawk would say if it was the opposing team's hitters) the rest. Given his youth, I would try to get him to Rochester next year, hope he does well there, and then try to add him in to a trade deal with somebody at the deadline for somebody.
  17. I have sincere doubts that Bard and Chargois are ever reaching the majors.
  18. Ervin Santana (3 years), Phil Hughes (2 years), and Johan Santana (1 year + option) would be my choices. All incentives included and this probably amounts to maxing at $30 in 2014 and 2015. Jimenez is also interesting.
  19. The problem with doing that with Meyer is the innings limit he will rightly face in 2014. It's probably similar to Gibson's 2013 mark. And hopefully the Twins don't do to Meyer in 2014 what they did with Gibson in 2013.
  20. I absolutely hope and think Arcia will be better than Kubel. Kubel was great in 2009, good in 2012 for Arizona, and then merely above average or average the rest of his career. There is no disputing that. That wouldn't be acceptable for Arcia. I think averaging .285 with 25-28 homers for several years is a reasonable guess. That's good.
  21. The problem is that so much about eating involves the sense of smell. And my shoes are smelly. And . . . there somehow were serious mentions of him again the 2/10 dollar joke. (Which I know isn't a joke for a lot of people). Here is a list: (Kevin Correia, Sam Deduno--both older) Kyle Gibson Vance Worley Scott Diamond Liam Hendriks Andrew Albers Pedro Herndandez Logan Darnell There are 7 pitchers younger than Mike Pelfrey (most by 3 or more years), of likely similar value in 2014 and 2015, and who are all to be had for a fraction (most 1/10th) of the cost. That doesn't include: Alex Meyer and Trevor May, and it doesn't include the one or two FA signings.
  22. Exactly. They need to plug in at the top with legitimate top-worthy pitchers instead of just waiting for prospects to fill the top. If those prospects actually arrive in full, then those older players can be traded.
  23. Yes, his track record is one of taking too many pitches. Well, doing that (and being forced to, as a leadoff hitter) and getting behind in counts when not nearly acclimated to major league pitching puts one at a disadvantage. Without looking up the stats myself: I wonder about Hicks' OPS on the first pitch. I wonder about Arcia's OPS down 0-1. I wonder about Pinto's OPS down 0-1 (even in limited PAs). I wonder about them because it seems that Hicks was jumping on first pitches and doing things when he got "hot" (or whatever). I wonder what Arcia's numbers would be like if forced to take a strike once or twice per game, and I wonder if my suspicion about Pinto is right so far--that he is just smacking the ball around regardless. Getting Hicks in 0-1 or 1-1 (if lucky) counts once or twice a game by design (as a leadoff hitter) when he has not had any chance to make adjustments (especially with those MLB off-speed out pitches) yet = much of the April debacle.
  24. He had not been "batting leadoff" his whole life. Hicks has spent a LOT of time at other spots in the order in the minors. He took off last year at AA when it was clear he was ready to move up from 3-4-5 to leadoff. Do you disagree that batting elsewhere in the lineup would have afforded him the opportunity to be more aggressive? A lot of minor leaguers come up and are aggressive or get eaten up. It happened to Herrmann in 2012 at the end of the season when he was not aggressive.
  25. Also, Hicks may have been fairly fine if he didn't have to start out him MLB career as the leadoff hitter. It demanded that he take more pitches and this was at a time when his pitch recognition and everything was obviously not going to be ready for such a position. So he took more strikes, got behind, and got in trouble.
