  1. Yeah, Doumit's value is as a DH, pinch hitter (from both sides, adds value) and as that third catcher on the roster that can fill-in as backup catcher for a DL stint from one of the other two catchers (so they don't have to call another player up). There is some value there.
  2. For me it's Salty or bust. I am ok either way. He's not great, but he's good. Otherwise call me insane for trusting Pinto and Herrmann to improve defensively.
  3. I like this other than Betemit. Another part of me really just wants the youth movement to start opening day.
  4. He had a good 2013. That's almost it for anything of value from this guy. There is no way I would waste any time with him.
  5. Also, um . . . .HELLLOOOO. Eric Fryer representin'.
  6. Well, my nightmare is this: Kevin Correia Ricky Nolasco Mike Pelfrey who knows who knows And this is not out of the realm of possibility. I view this as a complete abomination of management. Hopefully this is not the starting rotation.
  7. Nevermind. My sincere apologies.
  8. Was there this concern over Winter League ball last year? No. And for good reason, because literally nothing is to be gained from this time other than innings and plate appearances. This should be obvious.
  9. As I have noted elsewhere, Capuano is a good option and will improve or maintain himself in the AL. Otherwise, I would just overpay for Arroyo on a two-year deal and figure out Hughes too. That's a decent realistic expectation. Add three guys. But they won't. It's either Nolasco (no please), Kazmir, Hughes, Arroyo, or Capuano. With the caveat that it's maybe one of those first four AND Capuano. I hope they sign two. The weirdness about starters (Johnson, Swarzak, Duensing) makes me think that only one of these guys is signed.
  10. When have winter league stats ever mattered, whatsoever, for anything about how we view talent?
  11. Mike Trout Miguel Cabrera Bryce Harper Evan Longoria Wil Myers Clayton Kershaw David Price Max Scherzer etc. Not a whole bunch of guys, but certainly not falling to Fielder levels.
  12. You have to get to true upper-echelon players to consider a trade for Mauer straight up.
  13. Absolutely not to both. Kinsler would clearly be a mistake and Fielder would be a mistake. There. Seriously?
  14. Yep! Indeed. And unfortunately a real possibility.
  15. I'm willing to be pretty negative in order to be pleasantly surprised. I am not sure how one can just overlook what has been done so far and reasonably also expect any kind of drastic improvement from TR this offseason. I predict one FA starting pitcher and probably a lot of filler.
  16. The Twins do not have enough assets, as an organization and because of the near complete lack of talent in MLB, to be in a position to make such trades. I am not interested in trading for anyone unless it comes from a package deal of the Willingham-Santana-Harrison-Sulbaran-Baxendale variety. This doesn't get any of these pitchers, but the next tier of pitchers, perhaps. Signing FA pitchers gives them more assets.
  17. I was just wondering what they could get in a scenario as a measure. I am not about to be willing to trade Arcia.
  18. I like this thread. I wonder what Arcia, Travis Harrison, and Danny Santana could net the Twins in terms of pitching out there.
  19. I know this apparently can't happen, but I would like a weekend series where Dick and Bert get a vacation and Gleeman and the Geek take over. Aaron: "color" commentator, with dating advice. John: play-by-play, in part because everyone knows that Aaron would simply shirk such responsibility. Seth: Minor league update segments. Parker: video analysis segments. Nick: editorializing something. We know this would be an improved product (insert inappropriate comment about a horde of clowns and hyenas also improving the product). Come on.
  20. I am more likely to defend someone making a point in starting a thread then to heap on "quiet down" comments. So, can anyone even remember what happened this time last year? That is, what Twins activity was there before the Winter Meetings last year and was it more, less, or the same as the amount of activity so far this offseason? I ask because I don't really recall. And my issue isn't that the Twins have done nothing . . . because they have done things already! And said things. If they said things encouraging and did things that make sense (Welker for Johnson, then not protecting Achter, then even considering Duensing and Swarzak for the rotation . . . seems quite odd, and just rehashing with a new Clete Thomas . . .) then it would be different. This could all be bet-hedging in case TR fails to get two SP free agents, I think, but I also would not be surprised if the intent now really is to sign one and only one of the mid-tier pitchers out there.
  21. 2012 Sanchez, 2013 Garza 2012 Blanton, 2013 Nolasco 2012 Dempster, 2013 Arroyo Pretty damn similar.
  22. Sorry spycake, YOU did it and you did in THIS thread.
  23. The Twins were associated with pitchers last offseason too. Sanchez was one. I think it went all the way down, aside from Harden, to Saunders. And it was similar (someone posted this in another thread somewhere, by the way) . . . talks and no offers. You aren't serious with anyone until you make an offer.
