  1. It's the new blood we were all demanding. He comes from an organization that has had success--especially with pitching. Their budget is I'm sure comparable to the Twins. We won't know for a few years but it's new blood, not the same old same old. Will he be required to keep Moli? What will he do with Mauer? I hope he has the correct answers to our countless questions.
  2. I'll take a Torii Hunter type any day. A whole roster of them.
  3. #1 has lessened the pain somewhat of #17. Dozier just continues to hit HRs. In most other organizations they would be asking "I wonder if he can keep this up next year?" where Twins fans ask "I wonder what we can get for him in a trade?" My #18 is hearing the Twins hired a new GM from a top flight organization like the Cubs who actually develop their prospects. I am excited about Kepler, Buxton's new approach and our hitting in general. Our pitching has to change with the current front office and coaching staff as we are nauseous seeing Twins' opponents outscore Vikings' opponents.
  4. I think Molitor is still trying to win games for some reason and thus we see no-possible-future guys like Logan Schaefer instead of AB Walker. I doubt Walker has a real future in the bigs, but isn't this the season and time to find out about anyone with whom we have intrigue? Anyone on the 40-man who could possibly be in our future should be getting playing time now at any position they could possibly help us. I understand Moli trying to be competitve against teams in the race, but with this pitching staff I don't think it matters much if any.
  5. Tons of questions and not an ounce of answers. Dozier is the only answer and that means he will probably be traded to get pitching. Add the manager and coaching staff to this list as we know we're not a great team by any means but is this the worst talent in baseball? For five years we've had nothing but hope for the future. We now are just hoping we can answer some questions, but Schaefer, Grossman, etc. are just bandaides on a fatal gash.
  6. Boy do we need some of these guys to go from prospect to star. More than a bit scary how few of our top SP have put up even decent ML numbers. Let's hope Hu doesn't have the most success. Twins pitching staff is a total mess so the new GM has to do a good job of keeping the best and trading off the rest.
  7. If Joe were still a catcher, he'd be a certain HOF, but that's the issue with him. He was a regular All-Star while catching but has always been an after thought at 1B since moving there. If he were still a catcher--and I'm not calling for it--he would more than likely still be an All-Star with his numbers. They aren't bad for a catcher, but they aren't nearly enough for a 1B. And for his salary we need many more HRs, RBIs, and clutch hits from him. You have to like and respect Joe Mauer as a person, but even as a concussed 1B there isn't enough to justify full time duty especially as we find out who fits in our future.
  8. Vargas got caught up in a numbers crunch and since he couldn't pitch unfortunately had to go down; however, I hope he is with the team next year as I like his combination of power and patience at the plate. I hope a good pitching coach can correct Santiago's recent issues. We all agree the Twins have many more questions than answers and hopefully a new GM will make the moves to expedite our move toward the top. I hope we can find the right guy. It seems all we have is hope.
  9. Are the Twins trying so hard to win in the minors that they forget that the minors is the testing/proving grounds for the majors? Totally giving up on Polanco at SS in the minors is borderline insanity, especially when 2B and 3B is already spoken for and the kid has proven he can hit MLB pitching. The Twins brass seem to punish those who have not wronged, but yet reward those who have not righted. I pray this mismanagement does not go on much longer.
  10. No way. One more 3B/1B/DH would literally break the camel's back.
  11. Does his no-trade clause also include irrrevocable waivers? I did not know that. I am not here to bash Mauer--you can't not like Joe--but does anyone really believe his latest hot streak means he is back to being the MVP Mauer or anything close to earning his $23 million? He had the hot streak in Seattle where he showed HR power and then went in the tank. I know the odds of relieving us of his contract are slim and none, but if there's a way to keep Vargas, Park, Sano, Palka, etc. for future years you try any avenue and unfortunately 1B seems to be the only position for these guys who should be part of our future.
  12. Someone has to bring it up: Guessing that the Twins will put Mauer on waivers as we've heard they've done before, Seth, (1) what are the odds another team would claim him, and (2) would the Twins possibly let him go if another team did?
  13. I agree that sending him down to allow Plouffe to come back is disappointing, but Buck needs to get his confidence back (again) and lately each AB in the bigs his eyes are telling us he does not believe in himself. Let him stay with the Red Wings until the end of their season and then he comes back up. I would like to see him bunt at least once a game in the minors to get him to really see the ball. At 22 I just don't believe in the adage of letting him sink or swim with the big club. He will get it at some point, and when he does he will be the electrifying factor we need in CF.
  14. So nice to see the numbers of the top 5, but even better to see the competition was stiff as the honorable mentions also put up great numbers. Wish more of these guys were MLB ready but for now we'll have to hope Berrios is up to the challenge.
  15. The future always comes down to the present, and with the Twins above .500 in our last 60 games baseball is fun now and should be even brighter in the coming years. Nice to read about our future players though I look at their box scores every day. We have been talking future for way too long so I hope that the new GM will package some of our young players this off season for established talent. The thought of trading Buxton scares me as I am sure he will translate his minor league numbers to the majors soon. Way too much talent and way too young for people to write off. Would love to see AB Walker and Palka here in September and crush enough balls that other GMs fall in love with them enough to give us what we need in a trade.
  16. Too bad we didn't have the coaching to allow us to tap into Meyer's potential, but Nolasco is no longer a concern for us. Is Antony turning into a bona fide GM before our eyes?
  17. We'll know in couple years if it was a good trade or not, but I like getting a former #1 who can reach triple digits. BBs are an issue but I like the fact we are getting more pitchers who should miss some bats and has three pitches. Guessing more deals will be made after the deadline for the Twins as our trade bait is under most team's radar and should make it through waivers. Holding my breath that Nolasco goes somewhere.
  18. It is unbelievably tough to switch positions in the middle of the year, especially going to the hot corner. He needs a lot of work there but so did Gaetti, Koske, Plouffe, etc. He is a good athlete and will succeed in the field. I think we will see his defense improve as soon as his bat heats up. We cannot afford to have another 1B/DH.
  19. Really looking forward to Berrios' second run in the bigs. He was fun to watch and showed a good ability to miss bats, but as mentioned his mistakes were hit hard and thus the huge ERA. He hopefully becomes an ace and Gibson, Duffy, Mejia, and even May and Meyer can provide solid options for next year. I hope Santana is still here. If not we have to believe we got a solid option(s) for the future in exchange for him.
  20. I am just anxious to see more games like the last 10 and nothing close to the first 70+ games. If the trades don't happen at the deadline or in August, they had better happen during the off season.
  21. Great article. So nice to read something positive, which we can finally do since they have been "watchable" lately and maybe the future isn't still 3-5 years off. I agree with all of the positives, especially getting Sano back at third, Max showing power in left, and Berrios back up. I like Vargas' ABs so far, exhibiting patience yet turning on pitches he can hit. He seems to be a good clubhouse guy who keeps everyone loose. Palka is really producing now at AAA, with 23 HRs and 67 RBIs, and he's not even on the 40-man roster. I would really like to see what Polanco can do for an extended time with the big league club, but Dozier is playing so well I can wait. Let's pray these positive vibes last a lot longer. I haven't even thought about the Vikings for like two weeks.
  22. How scary is it when Nunez has more value than Dozier, Plouffe, Nolasco, Hughes, and Suzuki (the players who should be traded) probably combined? I think we all kind of figured back in March that this year any trade would be made to supplement a competitive team or an injury replacement. Now we are speculating a trade of our best player this year to get what we can? Our "future" should have started this year, but now it's been pushed back a few more years? Another decade? No decision the FO makes on trades in the next few months is even close to the magnitude of the decision the Pohlads need to make about the FO at season's end.
  23. Seth, do you really think AB Walker will make it to the Twins or will his K rate and low BA force the Twins to drop him from the 40-man? I have loved his power numbers for the past few years, but now it seems like we have too many "all or nothing" types. I saw he was recently batting 8th for Rochester. That's not a good sign.
  24. Apathy is running rampant. I like the "going back to bed" approach as it seems there will be nothing exciting until the trade deadline.
