  1. Any expectations that there are a few more call-ups when the 40-man roster guys minor league teams' seasons are over?
  2. Looks like Jepsen has better career numbers in post all-star break than pre-break. Brooks Baseball shows that over the past couple seasons his velocity has increased throughout the season. So this might work out ok.
  3. With Morneau out of commission, you could move Cuddy to 1B and Revere into the OF. Or Parmelee since Cuddy is also currently on the DL. Bullpen could use a LHP = Breslow.
  4. Any insight on how much side work May's been putting in? Has he been pitching on the side to keep his stamina up for a potential return to the rotation making him unavailable for some games out of the bullpen? Legitimately curious.
  5. Despite what has been said by Molitor, I wouldn't be surprised if they just go 6-man rotation until the All-Star Break and re-evaluate at that time. No off-days from the 5th until the break. Puts it off for a turn and maybe something happens to make the decision for them.
  6. I think it is time Mauer considers losing the beard. Rock a mustache for a few games and see if that gets the bat going.
  7. They sure can if Hunter wants to go there.
  8. I think Hunter probably goes to LF if the Twins bring him in. He's not likely to improve that OF defense much, but he does still have a useful bat, and I personally think having him in the clubhouse has value. Once the deadline rolls around, if a guy like Rosario has played well, ship Hunter to a contender to give him one last pennant race, open up a spot for a youngster, and hopefully reap the benefits of having had Hunter in the clubhouse the majority of the season.
  9. Fangraphs had an article about the Right-Handed Power Problem the other day. Why not take a look at Pena? He doesn't have to be a long-term piece. Maybe he shows some power and the Twins can flip him for an interesting player at the deadline. Maybe he doesn't and they give him the boot in favor of a minor leaguer that needed some AAA refinement.
  10. Young also has whatever is left on $7.2 million contract. Probably not worth the cash.
  11. I think the post-concussion concerns are likely legit. I wonder also if Joe knew a move to 1B would make earning an all-star bid at home much more difficult than at C, and got himself out of sorts trying to do too much outside of his skill set.
  12. Let's also not forget about the Fenway factor for Drew in 2013.2011 & 2012 total OPS was .686 2013 Home OPS .858 2013 Away OPS .687
  13. I'm obviously in the minority here, but I'm on board with the moves. Kubel is a bit questionable, but I think it is likely the FO essentially guaranteed him a roster spot when he signed a minor league deal, and if so, I don't blame Terry & Co for keeping that probable promise. As for Bartlett, granted he had a terrible spring and hasn't played much the last 2 years, but he's won in MN in the past plus has experience winning for one of the best managers in baseball down in Tampa. This wave of youth needs a presence in the clubhouse, and the perceived quiet lead-by-example ways of Mauer/Willingham is one thing, but a guy with a little more edge and a voice is also important. 25th spot on the roster at the expense of Parmelee is worth it in my opinion. Financial commitment is minimal on both and if it doesn't work out they can be jettisoned relatively painlessly.
  14. (Trevor Plouffe with 70s Zeppelin song "When the Levee Breaks" - I just don't get the connection to batting) Oh shoot - that is the song I used as walk-up in amateur ball. That must have been my problem.
  15. Looks like I'm a few days behind everyone else, but here goes anyway. Signed up because my wife is sick of me telling her about what I read. Been a fan of the site for a while now. Couple initial thoughts. Garza - I say if Ryan can get him for the 3 years $54 million I believe Wolfson tweeted. Go for it. Bring in the pitching and let everything work itself out in the spring. 3B - I know the Twins want guys that can play everyday and they may not want to block Sano, but anyone have any thoughts on potentially bringing in a platoon partner for Plouffe? Wilson Betemit is a free agent with a noticeable split favoring his left side. He isn't much of a defender, but neither is Plouffe. Just seems like a bit of a waste to bring in the pitching and not at least look for a little bit of an offense upgrade. Plouffe definitely has more success vs. lefties and Betemit isn't the kind of commitment that would block Sano once he is ready. 40-man implications on both Garza and Betmit, but there are options there in my opinion.
