Looks like twitter users are haggling with Dave, including Darren Wolfson regarding Alvarez being part of the deal. He and his source are insisting that Alvarez IS part of the deal with DeLeon while others are scoffing at that assertion. Interesting. Dave any updates on this?
I know what you are saying, but in response to Enge0280's earlier post about the "1 for 1" rumors circling, that started after Neal published this tribune piece (i think). He clearly stated that DeLeon is on the table and the Twins asked for one other prospect (whomever that might be) and the Dodgers held firm in saying no. So if that's true the Dodger are holding firm on a 1 for 1 trade. As to whether he meant that, only Neal knows. If it's true (which i highly doubt) there's no way in hell i trade Dozier for DeLeon straight up. That would be an insanely stupid trade by the Twins. No way can you gamble losing a 29 year old power hitting first baseman for one starting pitching prospect with a history of shoulder problems and a terrible debut last season.
I think La Velle at the Star Tribune started this (rolls eyes). "The Twins have been pushing for De Leon plus another prospect, but the Dodgers haven’t blinked." To be perfectly honest I don't know where he is getting this. Maybe he has insider sources, perhaps this is an assumption based on how long this has been dragged out. Either way I take what he says with a pinch of salt.
Agreed. If that's all that's on the table (I doubt it) you walk away no questions asked. I tend to believe Dave that its DeLeon and Alvarez, plus one other. As was said earlier the likely sticking point is the third piece of the deal that they are haggling over. Dodgers want it to be a PTBNL but the Twins want something of value with upside and i understand why. DeLeon had a terrible debut and has had injury issues throughout his minor league career. He is far from a sure bet at this point. Alvarez has fantastic stuff but has only pitched 59 innings in the minors so far (A ball). He's at least 2 to 3 seasons from the majors. IMO they need something else closer to the majors to make this work in my opinion, such as Brock Stewart who can step in now.
Dave tweeted yesterday (i think) that talks are heating back up again and that his source is certain a deal will be done by end of business week. Yea or nay? I'm gonna gamble and say yea. Dozier for DeLeon, Alvarez and Stewart
The way i see it if the Dodgers aren't willing to give up JDL & Alvarez as a baseline for a deal it ain't gonna happen. Looks like the big hangup is the final piece of the deal.
Alvarez has made 9 starts and thrown 39 innings in the Midwest league (A ball). He has just barely started as a prospect and is MULTIPLE YEARS away from the majors if he makes it all. Sorry to burst your bubble and no disrespect intended but he has proven NOTHING yet.
Interesting signing. One has to wonder if this Falvey & Levine's way of keeping a close hand on the wheel with Molitor through the end of next season. After all Paul has a tendency to fly off the handle occasionally (especially as a player) and made questionable off the cusp managerial decisions. Either way i like it.
Yeah if the Tweets ring true they think the Twins "are getting greedy" demanding De Leon and Stewart plus one other. If that's what the Dodgers think (I have my doubts), just walk away from the deal and get ready for the season. This is not going to get done. The Twins shouldn't get bullied into giving away Dozier for practically nothing. One starting pitching prospect (projected #3) and Stewart (think projects as a RP) is not going to get it done for the Twins. That to me is not a good deal for the Twins.
Personally i think the Twins are pressing their luck doing this. An extended break over the holidays could change thoughts and attitudes and torpedo the deal. The Dodgers I'm sure have limited patience and could throw up their hands and walk away while still being a good team next season. The Twins don't have that luxury. Its clear the advantage goes to LA on that one. Now it's true the Twins don't "have to" deal Brian Dozier, but the truth is if they want to significantly improve the team he needs to be dealt at maximum value, which is now. You take De Leon and Alvarez and maybe a lesser prospect and thank your lucky stars and get ready for the season. It would be fantastic if they got more to bolster the ranks, but sometimes a good deal is too good to turn down especially when your this bad.
I'm guessing if it doesn't happen by EOB day tomorrow that it won't happen until the new year if ever. It has been indicated that the two teams have agreed to Alvarez and De-Leon, but the Dodgers want the third piece of the deal to be a PTBNL. That's a tough pill for the Twins to swallow. No-one should have expectations of any other top 30 prospects as the third piece coming back to the Twins. That might be a deal breaker in my opinion.
I think that if both sides agreed to De-Leon and Alavarez that a framework for a deal would have been in place by now and leaked to the press. The other question(s) in my mind are the third and possible fourth pieces of a deal. Assuming the Dodgers are willing to include De-Leon and Alvarez, I have a hard time understanding the hang-up unless they are absolutely not willing to include any other significant starting pitching prospects such as Jordan Sheffield or Walker Buehler both of whom are college level starters that the Twins should be targeting IMO. Both have multiple pitches and project as starters. I'm not as excited about Brock Stewart. After reading his scouting report he strikes me as a RP featuring a strong fastball and average changeup. Question. What do you think about Connor Byrne's mlbtraderumors article about a potential Brian Dozier trade not being imminent? Do you think the Twins official is just blowing smoke at news reporters?
I will be really ticked off if the Twin's FO ego gets in the way of a trade for De Leon and Alvarez plus a lesser prospect (if indeed that offer is truly on the table). We DESPERATELY need the pitching prospects. Get it done already!
I don't know if the "market sucks right now" but the Twins should not feel obligated in any way to make a deal. They are in a position of strength. If the Dodger want Dozier they are going to have to give up multiple valuable prospects to get him.
Really? I don't, but it's all good. However, with all do respect, Dave did say "Dodgers trade for Dozier to be completed within the next 24 hours." Not my words, his. That is what he was saying last week and he vehemently defended it.
I agree with you. This whole argument I was having earlier with another poster is the result of him attacking me for using "buzz words" and not having proof that a deal was not likely happening any time soon. This of course was in response to the prolonged absence of any substantiated rumors from confirmed or unconfirmed sources after it was initially leaked last weak that a deal was "imminent in the next 24 hours." Remember too that there were no updates on mlbtraderumors at the time confirming or denying ongoing negotiations or progression of talks between both clubs. Everything was conjecture based on one mans word from a source which he could not disclose for obvious reasons. Apparently this poster took offense to my skepticisms of the deal and went on a tirade in which he stated he was "using my post to make an example of me" for others to see. This post was subsequently deleted. All of this took place before info was posted today from Aaron Gleeman, John Morosi and a few others. So yeah, the original 24 hour timeline didn't hold up from last week but that doesn't mean it's not going to happen (something i NEVER said). I find it disturbing that so many folks here feel they have to post snotty snide responses to people they don't agree with (i'm not accusing you of this). So Depressing.
