  1. Meyer will be 25 next year, I believe. Another year of control should not be an issue at this point.
  2. I guess I don't understand why "taxing" the bullpen is a: an issue. b: a certainty. Plenty of guys in AAA can be brought up to man the bullpen if that is really an issue, which doesn't even seem like it is certain to happen. They seem to call up hitters willy nilly (Polanco), but seem terrified to bring up pitchers. It is, as a fan, maddening. The 40 man issue is a red herring. He needs to be added at the end of the year anyway. The only tiny risk is that he gets hurt, and needs to be on the MLB IR, and not the MiLB IR. Other than that, it isn't an actual issue anymore.
  3. Agreed, Span is making himself a ton of money right now.
  4. To be clear, the comments are nits....the point that the pitching seems SO MUCH deeper now, is awesome, and I don't want to lose sight of that.
  5. I'm not worried about it, but I'm not overly impressed that a college senior (23 years old) can dominate 18 year olds right out of HS. It's great he is now at the level he should have started at. It's great that they seem to be moving their pitchers up (at the low levels) this year. A nice change from the past, imo. Not sure why it is unreasonable to be frustrated that the clearly best or 2nd best pitcher in the whole system is in AAA, when he is on a pitch limit, and that limit seems to be being reached in AAA, and not in the majors. My comment was about that, not if he should be in the top 5 for the month. Being frustrated is an emotion, not logic. And, that slash line is ridiculous.
  6. I'll ask a different way, why is he not in AAA?
  7. Why is Hicks in AA still? Can anyone explain that?
  8. Not too excited about 23 year olds below A ball.....but at least he did what he should have. That slash line against Meyer is ridiculous. Very frustrated he's wasting his limited pitches in AAA. It's not like he is 22 years old...... Very impressive stuff from Chih-Wei Hu. Really seems like he has a chance.
  9. They thought Hicks was ready, and didn't learn if he was or not until he was here. We will 100% disagree on this forever. You get data by doing things in real life, not in practice.
  10. I guess I am not sure they want him at SS long term. If they do, then yes, they are not acting in a good way, strategically.
  11. Agreed 100%. he really should be up now in place of one of the current guys. I really don't understand the development or 40 man or 25 man strategy of this rebuild.
  12. Schafer/Shafer/whatever.....he's got over 1000 PAs, and has terrible defense in CF. He's here this year to just to make sure they have a backup OF. IMO, he should almost never, ever play.
  13. I hope to never see Shafer after this year. He's terrible. But, for this year, given what has happened, it is what it is.
  14. Would be interesting if they actually used their farm system for RP, and didn't keep signing 35 year olds. Why not promote a guy or two from Rochester right now, and see what you have? It is looking like those experts that thought Burdi should be in AA to start may have been correct.
  15. AAA pitchers are much better than AA (as a whole group), and Hicks will be more challenged there. He should be in AAA right now......to continue the growth. As for Santana, I disagree, and I know no one agrees with me, but I think he's your CF until Buxton is up. And, that might not be half way through next year. I also think they think Polanco has a chance at SS. Me? I'd leave Santana in CF until Buxton is up. IF Santana has been successful up until then, I'd move him or Buxton to LF. It's not like Santana is a great fielding SS. I don't expect these numbers to hold up, but it is possible he could 280/335/440 or something like that. With some speed, a good arm, and some steals? That's a good enough line if he can play defense out there. Or, maybe he is Ben Zobrist for MN?
  16. Once again, Meyer's pitch count makes his day look worse than it probably would have been.....
  17. Torii Hunter is terrible right now. I don't get why people keep typing his name.
  18. I think they want Polanco to be the SS. Maybe Santana is Ben Zobrist?
  19. Sure, if Hicks and Buxton are up here, that would be great..... I think it could be Buxton-Santana-Hicks, frankly......with Arcia your 4th OF/DH. Or, make Hicks the 4th OF who gives all three a day off..... Not that I am convinced on Santana, but until he fails, he looks like a success.
  20. I've been saying this for the last 2 years. Especially if a team can't find good SPs......like the last few years. Won't ever happen, thought.
  21. Great writeup, thanks. Given that service time thing, it would be odd / bad for them to call him up before Sunday, wouldn't it?
  22. No reason for Deduno to be on the 40 man next year: Hughes, Gibson, Nolasco, Pelfrey, May, Meyer, Milone, Darnell, Johnson, Gilmartin, Berrios, Pino.... even if you just cut Pelfrey, that is 11 pitchers.....and I am sure there are other AAA/AA guys that could be on that list.
